Which course is better in Goa institute of management?

UD
Utkarsh Dev Posted On : March 2nd, 2023
PGDM - Big Data Analytics from Goa Institute of Management (Graduated 2021)

Goa Institute of Management has 2 regular programs

  1. PGDM
  2. PGDM HCM

PGDM: PGDM is its flagship course and is very successful. Its 100% placement percentage is a testament to that. The average salary has been increasing every year and this year stands at INR 12.07 LPA. The companies visiting the campus for recruitment have been loyal by visiting every year. The regular PGDM has much more fees in comparison to PGDM HCM and thus a lower ROI. Also, admission to PGDM is tough owing to tough competition.

PGDM HCM: This program was launched just a few years ago and had few seats. It too boasts of a 100% placement percentage yet its average package at INR 10.40 LPA is lower than PGDM. But some companies come especially for HCM students. The PGDM HCM has fees lower than PGDM and thus offers a higher ROI than regular PGDM. Due to a lack of awareness, the competition is also less tough than PGDM.

Talking about the delivery of the curriculum, the faculty, pedagogy, infrastructure, and facilities are all the same. The students of both programs join together during events. So eventually it’s up to you to decide which course to take.

  • what will you be contributing during your time at GIM

I have compiled some tips that will help you prepare and perform an excellent interview at GIM.

  • Study your application form thoroughly
  • Don’t overestimate yourself or sound fake
  • Study your graduation subject
  • If you have work experience, then what kind of role it was

How are the placements at the Goa Institute of Management? What are the companies that recruit from the GIM?

One of my friends recently completed his PGDM from the Goa Institute of Management and told me that the placement Statistics of the institute are very misleading. GIM claims that big companies like Big FM, Grand Thornton, RB, and Zee Media visited the campus for placements but in reality, they never visited the campus. Many students were forced to opt out of placements so that they can show a 100% placement percentage in their placement reports. Moreover, you will have to pay so many fines that all your savings will dry up.

Earlier GIM was indeed a promising Institute but recently is on the verge of deterioration owing to the irresponsibility of the administration.

My friend is currently pursuing PGDM in HCM from GIM and gave me a general picture of the course.

The HCM program covers various domains of Healthcare like

  • hospitals
  • pharmaceuticals
  • med devices
  • public health
  • health IT
  • health insurance

The roles offered through this program include

  • Marketing/sales executives
  • Management trainee
  • Assistant Manager
  • Operations Executive

Placements: The institute boasts of 100% placement percentage of HCM course with average at INR 10.4 LPA and Highest at INR 26 LPA. The majority of students were placed in the Healthcare IT sector (47%), followed by the Consulting (43%), Medical Device (43%) and Pharmaceutical (5%) sectors.

Infrastructure: The college has a world-class campus with 24*7 functioning libraries along with sports and hostel/mess facilities. Its location in Goa speaks of the beauty of the campus alone.

Suitability: This course can be taken by students with any background but it is most suitable for students with a healthcare background, Computer science/IT background, and Pharmacy & biotech background. However, there are many students from varied backgrounds like B.A. B.Sc., non-IT Engineering, B.Com, etc. who have successfully started their career in healthcare after completing this program.

So Goa Institute of Management excels in almost every aspect and its HCM IS considered one of the best-coveted programs.

Goa Institute of Management comes among the top 20 private colleges in India so almost all the courses offered are worth the fees you spend.

My friend is currently pursuing the PGDM Big Data Analytics course and she is glad she took the course.

  • Objective: The primary objective of the course is to impart enough knowledge regarding different aspects of Management with a main emphasis on Data Analytics tools. The course teaches techniques to solve managerial problems. The proportion of Management and Analytics subjects overall is 40:60.
  • Pedagogy: The teaching methodology comprises a case based approach wherein students are presented with real-life situations and have to come up with solutions. Apart from this, there are additional business data to help students apply analytical tools and models.
  • Infrastructure: The institute has a world-class infrastructure wherein the Data Lab is well equipped. Excellent teaching aids are provided and the campus is very beautiful.
  • Visiting Faculty: Industry experts are invited to impart great knowledge and add a taste of real life inside the classroom. GIM also has collaborated with SAS India where faculty from SAS Institute come to college and teach us analytics subjects.
