Without a doubt, RV College is better than IEM College for engineering. It is popular for branches like Computer Science Engineering, Electrical & Computer Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. The points which make it superior are:

UEM- It has a placement percentage of 123%; almost all the students get 2-3 job offers.
IEM-
Both UEM and IEM offer similar placement opportunities but as a course BTech offers more scope as compared to BCA. However, you should be the one to decide which course will be better for you.
IEM Kolkata is better than Kalyani. If you are interested in branches like CSE, ECE, or IT, IEM will be a better choice. The placement record of the institute is a lot better compared to Kalyani. IEM Kolkata placements have the median CTC of INR 4.01 LPA.
You will also get good exposure and networking opportunities. IEM conducts many seminars and workshops throughout the academic year.
My sister graduated from IEM Kolkata in June 2016 and she is now working as a consultant at KPMG. She shared some of her experiences and the basic do’s and don'ts she followed while studying there.
Maintaining good grades is very important because students with lower grades are considered not capable enough for placements in top popular companies. They can sit for placements at non IT companies though. Students with lower grades don't get good opportunities in the college so one must maintain above average grade in his/her subjects, to secure a placement or even opt for higher studies.
The top recruiting companies that participate in their placement program include, Google, Microsoft, Accenture, Capgemini, L&T, Wipro, TCS, Mindtree and many more.
IEM Kolkata is among the top management institutes in the region. It ranks right after IIM, IIFT, and IISWBM. IEM has a great management faculty. The professors use a hands-on teaching approach through weekly presentations, case studies, etc. Various seminars, conferences, and competitions are organized to provide more engaging learning experiences. The course work also includes industrial tours and foreign tours.
The recent highlights of IEM Kolkata show the median CTC as INR 10.50 LPA. Reputed companies such as Cognizant GenC, Wipro, Capgemini, TCS Ninja, etc. take part in the placement drive.
It all depends on the candidate’s decision. What may seem productive for him might fall flat for others.

IEM being a private institution is strict with its studies. But, being government colleges students can see little slack on education in KGEC and JGEC.
If campus recruitment is the sole criterion, then IEM stands out with a virtuous record. Whereas KGEC and JGEC in can see slack in core branches recruitment.
IEM being situated in the heart of the city’s IT sector, all the companies take interest to see the students from IEM. KGEC and JGEC located outside the main city.
If you compare KGEC with JGEC, KGEC is the way to go. KGEC has a better ratio of placements, infrastructure, facilities, and faculty than JGEC.
Choose KGEC if you want to study in any core department. Otherwise you can choose between JGEC and IEM for other departments. If you are looking for government jobs, KGEC is the one. Choose KGEC without hesitation. If you don’t get a chance to get into KGEC go for JGEC as both being government colleges gives less burden of fees and expenses.
Finally, it’s up to you to choose any one among the three engineering colleges. Based on the parameter, it drives your decision. My suggestion would be go for KGEC and if not then, JGEC over IEM.
IEM Kolkata organizes many fests and competitions throughout the year. The IEM Kolkata fest is organised every year and it is known as Innovacion. It is being celebrated at a large scale and many performances, from dance to drama are performed here. All students from semester participate in this fest and together they make it a successful one.
The college also organises fresher's parties and annual functions at science city auditorium. At the fresher's party, all the newbies are welcome and they introduce themselves to their professors and seniors. These events turn out as a great refreshment for the students as the students have to go through a lot while studying and complete all the projects and assignments and attempting exams all together.
The events are necessary as it encourages the students to learn some new things like time management, discipline, teamwork and students can also showcase their talent to the world by performing in these events.
IEM Kolkata as a college is just focused on getting marks and secure jobs during campus placements rather than providing quality education to its students to get some knowledge. The students were told to sit in campus placements with UEM students which was considered to be a very dis-organized step taken by the college.
The environment inside the college is very bad and the curriculum for students is worse. My sister studied here and she mentioned how the students are only concerned about getting any kind of job during the campus placement so the institution can maintain their reputation resulting in more admissions in the coming years.

They don't care about improving the knowledge or skills of a student. The rules of the college are really difficult sometimes. Like if you're seen at the library you can be restricted for bunking class. Also the teachers are very rude and the students are scared of them.
These things leave a bad impression on the students about the department and the college too and ruin the name of the college. These problems should be solved immediately and not only in this college, it should be fixed in every college where such things happen.
Yes, you can get IEM Kolkata with a rank of 6k. In 2021, the closing cutoff for the IT branch was 2483-8457.
IEM Kolkata is an average college. The academics and facilities offered aren’t good for IT. Alumni of the institute who are well-established in the IT sector received the opportunities based on their talent and expertise. If you have other better options, you should choose them over IEM.
As per the recent placement highlights, IEM Kolkata average CTC was INR 5-6 LPA. While the highest CTC offered to the student of this branch was INR 42 LPA.
The hostel life at IEM Kolkata is believed to be very bad. The food that is served to the students is very unhygienic, unhealthy and tasteless. It is very bad and many students have to order food from outside the campus. The students complained about this issue to the authorities but there was no change or improvements.

The hostel fees are pretty high but in return the facilities provided to the students are very poor. The wifi is also poor in speed and most of the time it didn't work well. Also the limit is only 4GB per month which is very less data in today's world as we need the internet for a lot of things.
They have a strict rule of entering the hostel by 6:30PM which is pretty early. So the hostel life will be very bad and it will be better for a student to stay in rent or PG outside the campus.
