Should I join MANIT (NIT Bhopal) Chemical Engineering while I get CSE at IIIT Sri city? I've no particular inclination towards any branch.
Why do you want to opt for engineering? Is it because you enjoy Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics? If that’s the reason, then there are two possibilities for you.
Joining IIIT Sri City for CSE-
- You can sharpen your coding skills and work better on Computer Science learning more about ethical hacking, cybersecurity, etc. This is how CSE would prove to be fruitful to you.
- But if we perceive the other side of the situation, if you do not hold any interest here, you might find it hard to cope with and eventually lose interest. Since IIIT Sri City is a new college, it will not be able to impart the essential communication/soft skills to you.
Joining Chemical Engineering at MANIT Bhopal-
- Apart from developing a great interest in Chemical Engineering, you have the opportunities to either go for higher education via GRE or ensure placement via GATE.
- But again, comparing the other side of the situation, if Chemical Engineering does not spark your interest, you can go for other domains like Management. MANIT offers all the adequate communication/soft skills that would be essential for that.
If you have no particular inclination, then choosing CSE may be better. As it has two domains, i.e. coding and non-coding. Plus, the internet is full of great ebooks and tutorials to teach you.
Should we prefer or join IIIT Sri City over other IIITs?
Well, I have friends studying in various IIITs across the country and according to their experience, IIIT Sri City is indeed a good choice. While there is no specific reason to choose it above other IIITs, here are some insights you need to know.
- IIIT Sri City has a very strong governing body including top academicians and top industry personnel. No doubt that within a few years of establishment, IIIT Sri City has been progressing at an unmeasurable pace and it will be among the top IIITs of India.
- With neighboring institutes like Krea University, you will get great exposure to the liberal arts and humanities from the finest professors from all over India.
- The placement statistics of IIIT Sri City are good despite being newly established institutes. Even in terms of the alumni network, it is quite prominent and growing every year. Recently, my friend’s senior who is pursuing a master's in CMU, Pittsburg got placement got offers from PayPal, Computer Associates, MuSigma, and others.
- Last but not the least, you will have the massive advantage of location if you come to IIIT Sri City. The institute is in close proximity to main IT hubs like Bangalore, Chennai, and Hyderabad.
Overall, IIIT Sri City is the fastest-growing new IIIT as compared to other newly established ones. In terms of location, administration, and placements, this prime institute is bound to reach new heights in the coming years.
How many people are allotted in a hostel room at IIIT Sri City?
My cousin studied at IIT Sri City and he had a hostel room for himself. The hostel life seemed to be very dull and uneventful however the facilities were on point.
- He was in the twin sharing boys hostel where summers were difficult to pass as it was non AC.
- The hostels allowed students to bring home coolers, after checking with the authorities.
- The washrooms were common as well, so be prepared for long queues.
- The girls’ hostel has 2 BHK rooms which are non-furnished which means you have to bring your own stuff in accordance with the rules for or against items to be kept in a room.
- 7 girls can easily stay in these 2 BHK flats while 3 BHK are non-AC and 9 students can live there.
Even though the rooms are not fully furnished, each student will still be given a table and a chair to study.
Can I (OBC, AP) get CS in IIIT Sri City for a 96.5 percentile?
In IIIT Sri City, an OBC candidate from Andhra Pradesh with a 96.5 percentile score has some chances of getting a seat in Computer Science, which depends on certain factors.
In recent years, the closing rank for OBC candidates was 41400 for Computer Science. A candidate having a 96.5 percentile score is expected to have a general merit rank of about 40,000. So, you may get selected for admission with a 96.5 percentile
However, the OBC rank equivalent to general merit rank changes every year, depending upon the number of students applied from the same category.

My friend is a pass out from IIIT Sri City and was placed at a well-reputed company. According to his experience, the secret to their great placement record is their curriculum.
As we all know that IIIT Hyderabad is the mentor institute of IIIT Sri City, it gets excellent faculty and placement assistance. The curriculum is totally different compared to NITs and IITs, so you will have a year of advantage over others because in IIITs there is no PCM in the first year.

IIIT Lucknow, although a new IIIT, has established its name among the top IIITs. Its high ranking is because of its excellent coding culture and thus many product companies visit it. These 4 IIITs have their own campus too and charge high fees because of the top-notch faculty and research resources they offer.
All the remaining IIITs are in the development stage and should not be given consideration. It’s better to choose the top 7 or 8 NITs than these developing IIITs.
