Which is better, ECE at VIT Vellore or metallurgy at PEC Chandigarh?
My brother had the option of VIT for CSE on merit still he chose PEC metallurgy. There are various reasons as to why he took that decision:
- VIT is more expensive. Even if he had gone on merit, it would have cost him much more than PEC.
- Placements in core companies in ECE are negligible. You can sit for IT companies, but they pay less to ECE undergraduates than CSE counterparts.
- If you are a north Indian, culturally VIT might be different and might take time to adjust.
- Metallurgy is an undervalued branch in India; many of my seniors are pursuing MS from Germany, the United States, and France, and some have gone to IIMs and FMS with strong credentials.
- One of our seniors received a PPO of 15 lakhs, which is more than many students from elite branches.
- You can choose to upgrade, but you'll quickly realize that it's not that simple because the grading criteria favors those who are less deserving (no offense).
- Whether you accept it or not, those who claim that placement in metallurgy is poor (as it is in all branches except CS/IT) are correct. Placements in the core are hard to come by.
- Only 4000 people in GATE are from metallurgy, whereas there are 1.8 lakh from CSE and 2.1 lakh from Mechanical, implying that the probability of you getting a PSU is greater than that of a mechanical engineer.

I personally believe VIT is overrated because a friend who did not even pass mains received 2000 AIR in VITEEE. In the CBSE 2016 boards, he scored 78 percent, which was below average.
How and why is IIIT Vadodara better than VIT Vellore?
IIIT Vadodara has greater brand value than VIT Vellore, as IIIT is an autonomous institute which is recognizable all around India. IIIT Vadodara is also more reputed than NITs and BITs, despite the NIRF rankings. One of my cousins studied at IIIT Vadodara. He is quite satisfied with the education he has received.
- The brand value of the institute plays an important role.
- VIT Vellore fails to provide the student with proper confidence due to its undervalue brand name.
- Pursuing B.Tech will not only prepare for a job but must prepare for life by providing new practical exercises, good projects, etc.
- IIIT Vadodara prepares each of its students to perform well in their work.
- You will find in most IIITs the quality of teaching lacks which does not give students the right environment. At IIIT Vadodara the quality of teaching is also good due to the highly experienced faculty members.

Therefore, if you have a choice between IIIT Vadodara and VIT Vellore, then choose the former. IIIT Vadodara is a better institute than VIT as it has greater brand value and recognisable in foreign institutes.
Which is better, VIT or Kurukshetra University?
Among these, Kurukshetra University is better in terms of fee structure, faculty, brand name, and reputation. The university has fair practices and received a NAAC A+ grade.
Students of this university are working in MNCs like TCS, IBM, Infosys, etc. in India and abroad. Kurukshetra University placement report shows an average CTC of around INR 3-4 LPA.
Which university is better in terms of international reputation, Manipal University or VIT?

Should I consider VIT Vellore over PEC Chandigarh if I am getting mechanical at both places?
A few cousins of mine have completed their B.Tech from VIT Vellore with different branches. With them being successfully placed, their experience says you must choose VIT among both of these. Here’s why:
- Mechanical engineering at VIT Vellore is far better as you will get better exposure there. There is a huge emphasis on students coming up with their innovations and technology.
- The quality of students at VIT can be easily compared with that of top NITs, as there is no caste-based reservation at VIT unlike PEC, Chandigarh.

In the end, it is best recommended to choose VIT Vellore for Mechanical engineering as it offers better exposure and opportunities. However, PEC is also a good college and its fee structure is quite nominal as compared to VIT. In case of budget constraints, go for PEC.
Which should one choose, VIT University, Vellore CSE or ITM University, Gwalior CSE?
ITM University is one of the emerging top private universities in the country. You might think that this is answer biased but personally I have no associations with any of these universities.
ITM University has grown tremendously in the last 6 years. The guests that the University invites in the convocation ceremony are no ordinary people but an alumnus at the university and you will be surprised to see the names. Here are a few names of the alumni:

- Rajat Sharma
- Yuvraj Singh
- Shri Ashok Vajpeyi
- Padmashri Govind Nihalani
- Padma Vibhushan Dr. Raghunath Anant Mashelkar
Now, let us look at the comparison between the VIT University, Vellore CSE, and ITM University, Gwalior CSE.
- VIT is much older than ITM and thus, VIT outshines in case of reputation and facilities. The intake for CSE at VIT Vellore is 1200 but at ITM Gwalior, it is just 120.
- The infrastructure at VIT Vellore is much better than the infrastructure at ITM Gwalior. In fact, the infrastructure of VIT Vellore is one of the finest among all the colleges in the country.
- The fee at VIT Vellore is approximately 15 lakhs (hostel fee included) if you get selected through VITEEE (the entrance exam conducted by VIT). But if you go through the management quota or category system, you will have to pay a hefty amount of Rs. 30 lakhs, approximately. The fee at ITM Gwalior is Rs. 9 lakhs for 4 years (hostel fee included).
- Faculties are good at both institutions. There are faculties for M.tech and Ph.D. in both institutions.
Do not join VIT Vellore through management quota paying such a large amount, join only if you make it via entrance exam because it will not be beneficial.
ITM Gwalior provides you with good opportunities at a much lesser fee.
Which is more advisable, whether to join chemical at NIT Calicut or CS at VIT Vellore?
Making a comparison between two branches is not appreciable as each branch has its own pros and cons.
- CSE at VIT Vellore is one of the finest branches after top IITs. The college produces quality students every year who are usually leading top MNCs today or pursuing higher degrees in top US universities.
- There is a strong coding culture at VIT Vellore and technical knowledge is given to them which is one of the major requirements for this field.
- There is a startup ecosystem that involves learning machine language and artificial intelligence that can help students to gain many opportunities for their future ahead.
- According to recent placements statistics, the total number of offers made by various prestigious companies was 717.
- The highest package offered was INR 75 LPA, with the top recruiting companies as Dyte, PayPal, and DE Shaw.
CSE at VIT Vellore is one of the best colleges offering ample opportunities to all the students studying.
Should I prefer MAIT or VIT Vellore for an IT branch?
A cousin of mine used to be a student of VIT Vellore. He says that if you go with the data of the last decade, the placement records of VIT Vellore have been excellent.
The faculty of the IT department of VIT Vellore is top-notch and the teaching is of high quality. The IT department of VIT Vellore has been highly sought after. A big number of big IT names visit the campus throughout the year to offer jobs.
VIT Vellore is a brand in itself even though it is a Deemed University. The placements in CSE are also very good in the institute. The B.Tech program is ABET-accredited which is an international accreditation.
Some of the major companies that come to VIT are Microsoft, TCS, Infosys, Cognizant, CISCO, Flipkart, etc. VIT also makes it possible for the students to choose the subjects which align with their interests and even their teachers.
Which college is better in terms of faculty: VIT, Amrita, or Manipal?
One of my cousins studied at Amrita University. According to him, the faculty members at Amrita are really good. Many of them work across different research centers, departments, and multiple campuses. I would clarify that I do not have much knowledge about the faculties at the other mentioned colleges and thus won’t be able to provide any insights.
- Having said that, faculties are just a part of our studies and do not constitute the whole studies themselves.
- They contribute to our studies but the major part of it depends on us as students.
- They won’t be looking after or spoon-feed the syllabus like in school. They will teach you and guide you, it is your responsibility to learn whatever is being taught.
You should also get engaged with peer groups and other extracurricular activities out of your sheer interest and self-motivation. This plays a very important role as well as provides a lasting impression.
Which one should I prefer, an ECE in VIT (Vellore) or a CSE at Amrita University (Amritapuri)?
You should prefer CSE at Amrita University (Amritapuri). In terms of academics, placements and exposure, Amrita University is comparably better than VIT. Reputed companies like Microsoft, Amazon, Cognizant, etc. visit Amrita University placements to recruit students. CSE has a placement rate of around 85%. The salary packages for the branch range from INR 4-28 LPA.
