Should I choose civil engineering at IIT Mandi/Ropar, or should I go for civil engineering at SVNIT Surat?

TG
Tanima Ghose Posted On : March 31st, 2021
B.tech from Indian Institute of Technology, Mandi

Among IIT Mandi, IIT Ropar, and SVNIT Surat, IIT Mandi is a better choice for Civil Engineering. Here are the reasons why.

Infrastructure:

At IIT Mandi you will get good infrastructure for civil engineering as a large amount of money has been sanctioned to build advanced laboratories, classrooms, and many other relevant things.

Faculty:

The faculty of this college is also very good and has much expertise in their field.

Placements:

The placement records of the Civil Engineering branch have also been very good at this college as many top companies like L&T, ISRO, DRDO have selected students during campus placements.

Competitive Examinations:

Students of this college who appeared for exams like GATE and UPSC have produced remarkable results.

So, do your proper research, prioritize your needs, and then make a decision.

Is taking SVNIT Surat worth it?

RB
Rohan Bose Posted On : June 18th, 2021
Studied at Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology, Surat (2019)

One of my friends studies atSVNIT. To him it is a very good college and studying here is completely worth it.

  • All the students of the first year second semester went on a college trip to Kerala. It is also known as God's Own Country for its beauty.
  • They got to visit the Kolukkumalai Hills.
  • Every semester a cricket tournament was held and it was named as Manoj Memorable Night cricket Tournament. This tournament became a tradition in this college.
  • The college fest is a five-day program and there were many functions which were held throughout these days.

These days and events are a very important part of college life as it helps in interactions and exposure. Hence, SVNIT Surat is a great college where you will get to explore and learn many things along with your academics and here you will get one of the best experiences of our life.

Which is better SVNIT chemical or Nirma computer?

TM
Tanvi Mittal Posted On : June 22nd, 2021
Studied Chemical Engineering at Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology, Surat (2020)

You should opt for SNVIT chemical. If you are inclined towards it and the placements are very decent with many recruiting companies. You will find a diverse environment here and will develop bonds and learn many new things. Also, the fests are one of the major attractions that give you a great experience of college life with new challenges whether you are in an organizing team or participating team. At the same time, the JEE ranking should be high enough to get admission to opt for chemical.

If you are interested in CS, then you should score 9.4+ in your first year. But if you have not studied CS before especially programming languages then it would be a very hard nut to crack. You can work on your weak topics in 1st year as nothing much is taught. If you are in Nirma then you would miss the college and hostel life, the best memories of college life.

If you like chemical engineering then go for it, never get trapped by the fickle-mindedness of people in society. Since in India, the tag of your college determines your intelligence level and capabilities so if you compare SVNIT Chemical with Nirma CSE, I would suggest SVNIT due to the opportunities it provides.

Which should I prefer, SVNIT mechanical or IIIT Vadodara computer science?

SR
Suchismita Roy Posted On : July 5th, 2021
B.Tech Computer Science, Indian Institute of Information Technology, Vadodara (2022)

If you are not looking at the branch, then you should think about going to SVNIT for Mechanical. Having friends study in both the institutes, I might be able to provide some details about them.

However, if you have decided that you would like to go for computers and if you could handle that field, IIIT Vadodara is a pretty good choice.

But many people will also advise you to not compare the two branches as they are quite different. NIT Surat is a better option facility wise but let me tell you that getting a job in the mechanical core is quite difficult. A lot of students will also opt for software fields.

Placement-wise, IIIT Vadodara is the best as you can get a lot more than what you might be looking for in Mechanical. Hope this helps.

Should I study IT from IIEST Shibpur or EC from SVNIT?

DB
Devlina Bose Posted On : July 5th, 2021
Studied Computer Science and Engineering at IIEST Shibpur (2019)

IT from IIEST Shibpur is a better choice than EC from SVNIT Surat. Both my classmates and I agree to the fact that IIEST Shibpur is a much better institute than SVNIT. The reasons for the same are given below –

  • It is a common observation that many of the EC engineering graduates eventually work as software engineers, which is not their core domain.
  • IT is very close to CSE in terms of coding and related works. You will definitely learn more in IT rather than EC even if you are interested in software.
  • If you want you can learn software development and coding on your own, then go for the EC branch of SVNIT.
  • But that will require a lot of effort, time management, and discipline.
  • IT at IIEST, Shibpur will also give a mental satisfaction that you are working in the same field as intended while in EC at SVNIT you will probably have to join a job that is not related to your core EC subjects.
  • Even if you are passionate about EC, the faculty in this department at SVNIT are not very good. They are too young for the job.
  • Of course, there will be seniors and various clubs to help you out but faculty are at the core of any teaching system.

If you are really interested in EC then choose SVNIT. But if you are interested in coding and that is the job you want, then definitely IIEST, Shibpur should be your primary choice.

What is the difference between Dharmsinh Desai University and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Institute of Technology Which is better and Why?

PM
Paresh Mishra Posted On : October 16th, 2021
B.Tech. Mechanical Engineering, Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology, Surat (2019)

There are a lot of differences between the Dharam Singh College which is situated in Nadiad and the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Institute of Technology.

  • The Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Institute of Technology consists of an NIT tag which is a lot better than the other.
  • Both the colleges furnish the same courses of engineering but getting an NIT tag that is a national institute tag helps a lot. It indicates a brand.
  • Apart from the brand, it has a diverse culture as it welcomes students from all over the country, the exposure and opportunities offered at SVNIT are of the national level.
  • The faculty and placements are also above average at SVNIT.
  • Along with all these, the campus of SVNIT is around 300 acres which is itself a big campus.

Therefore, it is suggested that you opt for SVNIT rather than Dharmsinh Desai University. As it will provide you better opportunities both in academics and placements.

Which college is better: NIT Surat chemical or NIT Surathkal metallurgy?

RR
Rohit Roy Posted On : July 9th, 2021
Studied at NIT Trichy (2019)

Considering the opportunities which may get available for you in the future, I would suggest you go for Chemical Engineering at NIT Surat as it would be a better option over metallurgy. As my sister studied there, I am very well aware of the college and its pros and cons.

  • Many PSUs and organizations recruit students of the Chemical Engineering department from NIT Surat.
  • Some of these PSUs which recruit from the college include BPCL, HPCL, IOCL, and COAL India.
  • Many people consider NIT Surathkal to be better than NIT Surat based on incomplete information and the NIRF ranking released by the Ministry of Education, India.

Should I take NIT Surat for mechanical engineering or BITS Goa for an MSc in maths?

RS
Riya Siyar Posted On : August 24th, 2021
Studies M.Sc in Mathematics at BITS Pilani, 2021

There are different viewpoints for the same question. It primarily depends upon what is best for you, and whether or not the course you are willing to take interests you.

One of my friends encountered a similar problem likewise, and addressing the same, here are some points you might want to consider before diving into any conclusion,

  1. A dual degree in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry is claimed as a part of Science, while others are considered in the case of Engineering. You will learn the theories of science instead of the application of technology.
  2. In Mathematics, you are supposed to learn the series of higher-order and their respective application. While, in Mechanical Engineering, you will learn more deeply about Engines, Boilers, Automobiles, Refrigerator Systems, and much more.
  3. A single degree, like Mechanical Engineering, CSE, EE, Civil Engineering, or Chemical Engineering, can be more advantageous than dual degrees.
  4. If you opt for a dual degree in Mathematics, you have a higher probability of becoming a mathematician or a professor. But, in case you pursue Mechanical Engineering from NIT Surat, then you bear higher chances of securing a placement offer at top-tier MNCs.
  5. Your choice should always remain ahead of most others. The one piece of advice is that in NIT Surat, you supposedly cannot change your degree from M.Sc to B.Tech following the 1st year and vice versa.

You should research the same for BITS Goa and find whether or not the rule is similarly applicable in the institute. This is the basic difference you can find between both institutes.

Is SVNIT, Surat a better choice for Computer Engg than local Mumbai colleges like VJTI, D J Sanghavi, Somaiya?

OM
Oindrila Mukherjee Posted On : September 5th, 2022
BTech from Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology, Surat

SVNIT is certainly a better choice for Computer Engineering than local Mumbai colleges such as VJTI, DJ Sanghavi, and Somiya. Being an NIT, the institute offers way better exposure and placements. CSE branch bags the placements in the campus drive. During SVNIT placements 2022, the average CTC offered for CSE was INR 15.22 LPA. While the highest CTC stood around INR 44 LPA.

  • The university provides accommodation to both girls and boys.

  • There are also other facilities like a gym, convenience stores, medical facilities, and shuttle services. Additionally, there are also several sports grounds including a swimming pool.

SVNIT:

  • SNVIT’s library is 35 years old and has a large collection of books, and the college also has a central computer center.

  • SVNIT also fulfills all the basic requirements of the students. There are a dispensary and two ATMs on campus. There is a post office right outside the college campus.
