Is doing BCA from IGNOU worth it?

AV
Anish Verma Posted On : January 12th, 2021
BCA Computer Science, Indira Gandhi National Open University (2017)

It is true that doing a degree from a reputed college helps your career and getting admission in a reputed college should be a priority. But that does not necessarily mean, you won’t be able to succeed with a degree from a tier-3 college.

IGNOU is good to go with for BCA. The curriculum is well-designed. However, you should give preference to regular courses over distance courses.

Job Prospect:

  • As far as the job perspective is concerned, you can secure a good job if you have the required skillset and a good academic record. The university name has very little to do with it.
  • If you want to get a job in the IT sector, then BCA from IGNOU is the best course offered in ODL mode.

Mode of Class:

Taking admission at IGNOU depends completely on you since IGNOU is a correspondence degree or a distance learning degree.

  • For the courses like BCA or MCA, it is generally essential as well as mandatory for every admitted student to attend the practical classes, but IGNOU does not arrange such classes being a distance learning Institute that schedules classes only on weekends that is on Saturdays and Sundays.
  • But for someone who is working and still wants to pursue a degree, can go with IGNOU. This will not take much of your time as you will be able to attend your classes on weekends and by the end of three years, you will also be graduated.

Also, a project is assigned to the BCA students which are mandatory to complete but can only be done by yourself if you attend your class regularly. So, make a decision by taking all the points into consideration.
