If you are sure about your interest in CSE, DTU is the best option for you. However, if you are yet to identify your area of interest then go through the following parameters
Once you are sure of your inclination making a decision won’t seem so difficult!
Civil engineering has lost its charm after the IT industry has taken over. The placement statistics of the branch have witnessed a drastic decline over the past few years. In 2022, the NIT Calicut BTech Civil Engineering recorded the following figures
Students Placed |
86 out of 98 |
Highest CTC |
INR 11.4 LPA |
Average CTC |
INR 7.36 LPA |
The primary reason for the poor placement scenario is the lack of industry in that specific location. Other South Indian NITs like Trichy, Surathkal, and Warangal offer better industry exposure and have more promising scenarios. NIT Calicut lacks transport facilities so most construction companies prefer visiting the nearest NIT rather than traveling all the way to Calicut. Another reason for the poor placement scenario here is the low performance of the senior batches of the branch.
However, the situation is gradually improving as the institute has been adopting measures to support students pursuing internships at IITs and other industries.
To be very honest, Civil Engineering is a new branch relative to any other branch at IET DAVV. This brings the biggest drawback that there are no permanent professors for the Civil branch. The same situation is in the labs as well. The labs are well equipped but there is no experienced guide or lab assistant who can assist or demonstrate things to the students.
Though, being an engineering student, you must be well prepared for the fact that you have to study by yourself. At the IET DAVV campus, despite having better facilities and faculties, they have the same condition. Although, some of the faculties are very brilliant and try to cover the syllabus in the most refined way. You may get less practical exposure here particularly in the civil engineering branch but if you are determined enough, you will get to learn a lot.

You will also get sufficient time to prepare for competitive exams like GATE, CAT, etc. while you are pursuing B.Tech from IET DAVV because attendance is not a major concern here.
The placements depend on how actively you participate in them and your academic records are good. If you fulfil the eligibility criteria, you will definitely get a package ranging in between 4-5 LPA which is quite better in such a core field.
One important thing that you should not miss out on is that IET lets you grow, it is not like any other college which will load you with many assignments. Therefore, If you get a chance to get into IET DAVV, it’s a big yes!
Both IIT Mandi and IIT Ropar are well-respected engineering institutions. The institute which is most suitable for you depends on your individual needs and preferences. Some parameters you would like to consider are location, campus culture, research opportunities, and faculty expertise.
In my opinion, IIT Ropar fares better in terms of infrastructure, college life, labs, and resources. IIT Mandi on the other hand is lacking in terms of infrastructure and its campus is still in the development phase. The facilities and infrastructure are crucial to a conducive learning environment and IIT Mandi has failed to do so. IIT Mandi is also located remotely and thus students cannot avail of facilities easily and the exposure offered is also limited. IIT Mandi labs have failed to meet IIT standards and are decked with outdated equipment.
The labs of the School of Engineering and the School of Computing and Electrical Engineering are not at all good and have very limited operational capacities.
Keeping all the above factors in mind, it's better to go for IIT Ropar. Additionally, it is recommended that you visit the websites of both institutions and speak with current students or faculty members to get a better sense of what each has to offer.
IIT Indore is one of the leading new IITs that has made its name because of its multiple achievements. Here is exactly why you should give more preference to IIT Indore than IIT Patna.
In all, IIT Indore is a great choice for Civil Engineering.
One of my friends pursued Civil Engineering from IET Lucknow. According to him, Civil engineering at IET Lucknow is really good. Let me share some facts I gathered from him, which might help you understand the question a bit better.
Particulars | Statistics |
Total fees | 3.44 Lakhs |
Placement percentage | 50-60% |
Highest salary | INR 8 LPA |
Average salary | INR 4.8 LPA |
Lowest salary | INR 1.8 LPA |
Top recruiters | TCS, Infosys, Analytics Quotient, Adobe, etc. |
The Civil Engineering course at IET Lucknow is good. It is suggested that you should go for it, as it will help you shape your career ahead. Civil Engineering might have a bit fewer placements than CSE or IT, but on a standard basis, it is quite a good institution.
I will restrict my answer to Engineering Physics and Chemicals only as I know the same only.
I wouldn’t suggest anyone go for Engineering Physics if they have no intention of pursuing it later. Instead, look for other options in BTech and explore your interests.
The exact percentage is difficult to tell because the data is available only with the Training and Placement Cell of IIT Madras. The biggest problem with Civil Engineering is that you will not get any immediate opportunities in the same stream. So many of the students who need a job immediately with a good pay package usually shift to other streams.
It is not the case that people are not interested in pursuing core civil engineering jobs. But they want to study what can give them jobs immediately. Unfortunately, this is difficult in core civil engineering jobs. These jobs demand higher degrees which the undergraduate students lack and thus are not considered.
I have friends from both RV College of Engineering and MIT Manipal, civil engineering holds the same value from either of them. It is because they both follow the same curriculum and guidelines laid by UGC and AICTE. However, both of them hold an edge over each other in their own way. Here’s why:
The table below shows a brief insight of both institutes:
Particulars |
RV College of Engineering |
MIT Manipal |
Highest Package |
13 LPA |
43.31 LPA |
Average Package |
5.25 LPA |
7.50 LPA |
Course Fees |
14 Lakhs |
16.26 Lakhs |
At the end of the day, your pool of interest matters the most. If you are getting your preferred branch, set the preferences that are more important to you. Are you looking for a great placement or great brand value? The choice is up to you.
Honestly speaking, this internet-controlled era hardly requires good teachers as everything is available on the net. You can get in touch with internationally proclaimed professors with just a click. As far as IIT faculty is concerned, all IITs have similar degree holders that are quality knowledgeable.
A good teacher is the one that hones your talents to the fullest. They not only help you acquire knowledge but also shape your thinking style. Every institute has a few teachers that influence a student in a unique way. I am sure both IIT Guwahati and IIT BHU will have similar teachers.
Ultimately, what matters is the environment and the activities that these colleges will provide us to expand our intellect and maximize our talents. Pay little focus on the faculty and look for the right field to enter that will help you shape your career. Personally, I would suggest you go for IIT Guwahati as it has more open-minded and active people in that area which will give you considerable freedom to think and perform.
