One of my friends graduated from Pondicherry University. Here are some things you need to know about it before making a decision.
My friend got a good rank (read AIR-1) in 2014 but he ended up pursuing it in NIT Durgapur. So think wisely.
In general Pondicherry University is a good university. But not fit to meet the requirements of the industry. Better join some other university. In the long run, PU is not a good option. Placements are not up to the mark.
The wise choice would be to go with your interests or the location which would be favorable for you as both these universities are really good. Still, to choose any one of them, let's have a look at the following points:
Pondicherry University:
IISER Berhampur or Tirupati:
As both the universities have their own advantages and disadvantages, choosing any one of them can get quite hectic. If you are comfortable in getting into newer institutes then you can go with IISERs. But according to the alumnus, for undergraduate studies colleges do not matter that much, it depends on you individually, anyways no matter whichever College you choose they will have few drawbacks, you have to make sure that you work hard, grab opportunities and make the best out of them.
Pondicherry University's campus is extremely student-friendly, with free wifi available 24 hours a day and clean female hostels. It has the most extensive library. There is a free bus service on campus, as well as a shopping complex and other amenities. Paperwork and administrative tasks are also completed on time. Pondicherry is also a lovely location. You receive all of the advantages of studying at a Central University.
The syllabus at Calicut University which is a state university is excellent, but administrative support is lacking. Your certificates will not arrive on time. And the first-semester end exam will be held during the second semester's end, which is extremely complicated. Calicut University has a good campus, as well as a good library.
