To get into PGPBL, you must have a high percentile as well as a high profile. You must have excellent academic credentials and a high CAT score, that is more than 98.5, as well as high growth promotions in manufacturing job roles.

They conduct a friendly interview with a few tricky questions about recent news or cases. You are also asked two to three questions about legal quandaries or conflicts of interest. They simply put your confidence and knowledge to the test.

What am I missing out on joining IIM Kozhikode over IIM A B C ? How is it gonna affect me in the long run?

The average package you'll accept is determined by your own efforts. When compared to ABC, the level of competition will be slightly lower throughout.

More importantly, IIM-K is known for its greenery rather than its competitive academics, which is unfortunate but does not imply that people are not intelligent. When compared to IIM- ABC, the level of library facilities is lower.

It's good that you have AMBA accreditation and some other important accreditation for a B-school.

When compared to the top three IIMs, the level of teaching and research would be comparable or slightly lower. Although admission to IIM-K is not easy, your talent is appreciated. There will be numerous opportunities for you to reinvent yourself.

What should I choose, IIM Kozhikode or XLRI HRM?

SP
Sambhavana Patel Posted On : June 23rd, 2021
Studied at Xavier School of Management (2019)

I’ve got a few friends who graduated from these colleges, according to their experience, the key to any choice is whether you are comfortable with it or not.

XLRI has by far the best faculty in HR in Asia. Some of the professors have made frameworks taught across the world.

Almost every alumni from XLRI is an HR in a great organization in a great position is from XL. Your career progression would be very very fast. Once you join XL, there is no going back. Although you can switch from HR to Sales/Marketing, later on.

Seeing the other side of things, IIMK is a world-class institution offering the standard PGP course in General Management that all IIMs offer. As compared to HRM, there is a wide variety of specialization from operations to marketing to finance and consulting. The decision can be made post the first trimester with the help of seniors and faculty who are well versed with the ins and outs of every field.

Another important question is about switching from one function to another. Yes, it is possible to switch from HR to another function but the expectations would be on the lines of HR to Sales & Marketing because of the similarities in the work that both of these functions do.

HRM is not all about transferring people or paying salaries, etc. It’s how to leverage the human resource of an organization strategically to provide a competitive advantage. This is what HRs from XLRI are expected to do in their respective organizations.

To summarize, go for HRM if interested in the field. If you’re not yet sure about what else to do, go for IIMK and make the choice later.

Should I join IIM-Kozhikode or give CAT again or try for PGPX next year with 3 years of work-ex?

AS
Ankit Sinha Posted On : November 17th, 2022

Before taking any decision, you must go through all three options that you have in great detail.

There are a few reasons why you should not go for IIM-Kozhikode. First, the fees are extremely high, estimated to be around Rs 19.00 lakh. Second, the average package offered at IIMK is around 16-17L, and you will earn more than that after two years. But, once again, if you are desperate for an MBA, you can enroll in IIMK, which comes with the 'IIM' label, which will be very useful in the long run.

Give CAT once more. You only need to get a high CAT score and then leave the rest up to their selection process. Second, CAT is extremely unpredictable. With proper preparation, you can achieve excellent results. So, if you're willing to work another year and are confident enough to take the CAT, this is the perfect way to take it.

You should look into PGPX from ISB or elsewhere. This option is appealing, but it requires hard work and careful consideration. If you enjoy working in IT and want to advance quickly, this is the path to take.

Will IIM Bangalore still survive if Bangalore ceases to be a liveable city as suggested by numerous reports? Should I prefer IIM Kozhikode over it, as the future of Bangalore looks bleak?

MC
Mausumi Chatterjee Posted On : July 31st, 2021
Studied Finance & Marketing at Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode

Don’t choose the institute based on the city. As you will barely get to go out of the campus because of the academic loads in both the colleges.

IIM Bangalore offers the best student exchange programs. This college has helped a lot of students in building their careers. Most of the alumni of IIM Bangalore are settled abroad. So, it is definitely a good option for your studies. Also, it will take over 10 years for Bangalore to be completely unlivable. So, you don’t need to worry about that for the duration of your course.

However, if you want a pollution-free campus then IIM Kozhikode will be a better choice for you. The hostel rooms of this college are very good along with food. You will find a lot of learning opportunities over there.

Choose according to your convenience and don’t take City as a major parameter for your decision.

Which is better, XLRI or IIMK?

RW
Ravish Wadwa Posted On : June 14th, 2021
Director at ReGraduate | MBA, FMS Delhi

It is a bit naïve to compare XLRI to IIMK. Among the two, XLRI is definitely a better choice, being one of the oldest Business Schools in the country.

The points below provide a brief overview of both the institutes and some valid highlights to support the choice.

  • XLRI is a lot more established institute than IIMK, with a lot of experience over time.
  • For most MBA aspirants, XLRI is the first choice among the two. It is a fact that XLRI is not very far in ranking and facilities from institutes like IIM A, B, C, ISB, FMS, etc.
  • Considering the placements in both institutes, XLRI offers an average salary of Rs. 20.1 LPA to students whereas, for IIM K, the average package is Rs. 17.8 LPA.
  • The roles offered in XLRI and the quality of recruiting companies visiting XLRI are better than those in IIM K.
  • The batch size of XLRI is 180 students, whereas the batch size of IIM K is 382 students. So, it is quite obvious that it has an impact on placement as a smaller batch has greater chances of getting placed than a larger batch.
  • XLRI is considered the best institute in India for doing an MBA in HR. So, students interested in HR can blindly opt for the institute.

Therefore, students having an XLRI interview conversion should definitely go for it, having got a chance in such an excellent institute.

What are my chances of getting selected for liberal arts program in IIM Kozhikode under EWS category? X|XII|GRAD 95|88|75 CAT verbal section percentile 92.15

You have a pretty good chance of getting admission. Keep in mind, however, that admission depends on various criteria, which change every year. Your performance in the interview is one of the key determining factors.

One of the aims of the liberal arts course of IIM Kozhikode is that it seeks the representation of students from every academic background like science, commerce, and arts.

Apart from the diversity in academics, they also look for diversity in gender. These factors determine admission at the end of the day.
