Does ragging happen at NIT Jamshedpur?

SR
Sabarajit Roy Posted On : April 20th, 2021
Studied at National Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur (2019)

No, there is no ragging happening at NIT Jamshedpur. I have one of my cousins study at NIT Jamshedpur. I can tell you the ragging scenario there.

Seniors of NIT Jamshedpur are very helpful. But you must not misbehave with your seniors. They only visit freshers class when there is some important information to convey.

As a fresher, you may face a little difficulty while sports meet. You have to be in the parade group if you are not participating in games seriously. It turns out to be tough for students who cannot get up early in the cold morning. Seniors will call you for exercising on a cold morning. However, sports practice should not skip as they are as important as your academics.

You can have fun with seniors without getting rude. It is okay to have fun with them.

Therefore, you can join NIT Jamshedpur without any worries as no ragging has taken place till now.

How is M.Tech in CSE from NIT Jamshedpur?

AC
Aryaa Chatterjee Posted On : April 20th, 2021

NIT Jamshedpur, for any student, can be a good choice. However, it can be a good choice only if there is no further option left. In all the options that you have, the first try you should ever have is to enroll in IITs. On the other hand, if not IITs, then your second try should at least be for absolutely any tier-I NITs, such as the ones in the South.

Although, when you run out of your choices between institutions like IITs and tier-I NITs, then choosing NIT Jamshedpur as your last option is not considered overall a very bad choice.

NIT Jamshedpur is an institute that comes with brand value, which mainly is its USP. It is fundamentally well renowned across everyone for the CSE department, which has rather earned its name for being the most sought branch in the whole institution.

However, when speaking of the placement reports, it speaks otherwise. This means the overall placement record for almost all the branches in the institution is not highly praised. But, the improvement in the placement reports is somehow seen to climb the upper side recently.

Companies like INTEl have recently been known to select 25 students from M.Tech for certain internship opportunities, among which 12 students already belong to the CSE specializations.

After dropping 2 years I got an admission in NIT Jamshedpur in the CSE branch. Will it affect the placements?

KC
Kasturi Chatterjee Posted On : April 20th, 2021
Studied CSE at NIT Jamshedpur (2019)

When it comes down to whether or not a decision affects your placement, it, first of all, depends on how you have prepared and put effort into your studies. If you have not put much effort into your studies and have rather studied in an unresponsive and impassive manner, then a bulk of companies actually rejecting you is more obvious.

If you want to pursue your goal and more often than not, have prepared to not let any individual material affect you, then these are ways you can aim with:

  1. Aim for your Academia: You should have a checklist of several professors from various other universities who can lend a hand in providing you research-oriented topics to further work on during your summer breaks. This is one way by which you can aim at greater selection, only if you stand out in the project.
  2. Aim for a Lucrative Job: You should always aim to participate in different algorithmic contests and contribute to your open source. It will help build a reputation and can gain you exposure in the industrial side. It also will help see the capability to sit through various contests or examinations and stand out with solving numerous demanding questions. This is another way recruiters will find you as a great asset to their company.

Other than that, you can always go up for management and courses other than the one stated above. It however depends completely on you.

How is NIT Jamshedpur for civil engineering in terms of placement?

AB
Ayesha Bhoumik Posted On : April 20th, 2021
Studied at National Institute of Technology Jamshedpur (2019)

The placement records for Civil Engineering in NIT Jamshedpur are not considered to be the best.

  • One of the primary reasons behind this is the lesser number of companies actually approaching any Civil Engineers at the end of the day.
  • Nearly 60% of the students who are pursuing civil engineering get placed. At the same time, the opportunities that other branches receive regarding their placements can be heightened up to 90%.
  • Most of the civil engineers approach in opting for GATE preparations and later in their lives, go up to securing government jobs.
  • There are students who primarily did not take Civil engineering in their years of study and instead chose to opt for Metallurgy in the same institute they are in.

Civil engineering has an average placement of almost 60-70% in most of the NITs. It is somewhat similar in NIT Jamshedpur too since overall, it is not deeply bad. But, at the same time, it is not particularly good as well. Your placement also partially depends on your CGPA too.

L&T alone visits the campus of NIT Jamshedpur every single year and selects 15 -20 students in an approximate count. So you have several other options open for you via GATE OR IES.

SG
Siddharth Gupta Posted On : April 20th, 2021
Studied at National Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur (2018)

The details about the food facilities in NIT Jamshedpur are as mentioned below.

Mess Food Facilities

  • The quality of the mess food is average and is not the best. However, the provision of good food increases as you become a senior in the department.
  • The mess provides non-vegetarian food items five times a week. At the same time, vegetarian food items are not quite as good as non-vegetarian items.
  • The best meal, however, in the mess is its breakfast.
  • The current mess rate is Rs.15000 per semester.
  • The students who are residing in the Mega hostel have their meals in other hostels' mess. It is because the Mega mess is not functional at present, which mainly is a problematic scenario.

Canteen Food Facilities

  • The food of the canteen area provides a wide range of items as it is a newly developed area. It can be anything from espresso coffee to special “thali”.
  • If you possibly can, then have a brief glimpse at their menu card when you visit the canteen.

Private owners

  • There are several private restaurant owners as well. The one among many, as also acclaimed by numerous students, is a hotel named Pradeep Restaurant on the campus which provides decent food items.
  • Gupta hotel is another place where you can possibly obtain non-vegetarian food items at comparatively low prices.
  • Sudha store, Shyam da, and NIT store are various other food hotspots for students in the campus. The Amul store is just another decent shop where you can find some of the amul products you would love to eat as well.

These are the several food facilities you will acquire in and outside of the campus.

What are the best placement stories of NIT, Jamshedpur?

TB
Tanmoy Biswas Posted On : April 23rd, 2021
National Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur

This is one of the stories that my friend from NIT Jamshedpur shared with me. It is his friend’s story.

Name of the Company: ZS Associates

It is a dream analytics company for many.

Place: Jadavpur University (Pool Campus)

Let us refer to the person as ‘X’.

  • 13 candidates were made to sit in the room after the final interview round. Except for X, all the 12 students’ names were called one after the other and were given the company’s coffee mugs and pens.
  • X asked the placement coordinator about his selection to which he said “sorry, you got rejected by the company.” This broke his heart. He had studied hard for the company’s placement and got rejected at the last round.
  • He was about to leave the place when he heard HR call out his name from behind. He told him that he was on the waiting list and the VP of the company will take his interview which will be a telephonic interview the next day morning. This gave X a little hope.
  • He had to leave for Jamshedpur, so he booked an auto. But, on the way, he got the call which was from the VP. He immediately stopped the auto and looked for a quiet place. He went to the “Ganga Ghat” which was seemingly quiet. But, it seemed crows did not like it.
  • The VP was furious about this and told X to find a calm place and call back. Sadly, there was no such place around that X was aware of.
  • He made a call to his friend. She informed him about her PG but, it was a girls' PG and boys were not allowed inside. Since he had no other option, they thought of giving it a shot.
  • He rushed to the PG. At the entrance, they checked for the security guard who was fortunately not around. He went inside his friend's room and was done with his interview after an hour. He booked an auto to return to the station.
  • He received a call while in the auto. It was from ZS Associates. As soon as he received the call, he heard “Congratulations, you are selected.”

While the lady was sorry for not being able to give him the coffee mug and pen, he was thankful to her for the good news.

How is metallurgy at NIT Jamshedpur?

SJ
Sumit Jha Posted On : April 23rd, 2021
Studied at National Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur

Every year this dilemma strikes most of the students whether to opt for a good NIT but not the branch of choice or branch of choice at any NIT. What you should know is apart from the top five NITs, all the other NITs are equivalent. Therefore, go for the branch of your choice.

Now, answering that question that has been asked:

  • Academics: The faculty of the metallurgy department at NIT Jamshedpur is good. They provide a good amount of and appropriate content for the courses. There is not much pressure on large assignments. You can take out time for other interests that you have apart from engineering.
  • Placement: NIT Jamshedpur provides ample opportunities. Companies like Tata Steel and Vedanta Steel are the leading recruiting companies from the metallurgy department. You will also get a lot of opportunities in the non-core sector. Groffers, ZS Associates, Future First also recruit.

Looking at the placements, the Metallurgy department at NIT Jamshedpur has been better when compared to other NITs.

You can go for metallurgy at NIT Jamshedpur but, I will also suggest you give more preference to the branch of your choice.
