What is the ranking of IIT Patna among the new IITs?

PB
Pranjal Bhargava Posted On : June 21st, 2023
Studied at Indian Institute of Technology, Patna

The new IITs have no major differences and ranking them is quite illogical. It's the location and other personal matters that people consider while choosing one new IIT over the other. Moreover, these baby IITs are still in the development stage.

The table below mentions the NIRF rankings of the new IITs

IIT Hyderabad

14

IIT Indore

16

IIT Mandi

20

IIT Ropar

22

IIT Bhubaneswar

23

IIT Jodhpur

30

IIT Patna

33

IIT Gandhinagar

36

Based on NIRF rankings, IIT Patna is ranked 7th among the new IITs.

Is an M.Tech in IIT Patna a better option or not?

Amanda Marie Jacob Posted On : June 22nd, 2023

I have a friend who completed his MTech in Civil and Infrastructure from IIT Patna and he shared his experience of the same with me.

Course structure: The curriculum was poorly structured and failed to provide specialized knowledge in any area. The subjects included Environmental Engineering, Railway Engineering, Structural dynamics, construction planning and management, reliability, economics, etc. The mixture of subjects made it a jack of all trades but a master of none.

Faculties: The faculty pool here is miserable and most of them are old people enjoying their life with government funds and facilities. They rarely take classes and when they do their pedagogy is pathetic and even the most difficult topics like Reliability, FEM, dynamics, etc. were poorly taught.

Research: Comparing the research culture here and that of other IITs you will realize how pathetic the scenario is here. The reason was the lack of faculties’ research capabilities. Neither were they involved in any research work nor did they promote it to the students.

I really hope actions are taken against the falling standards of IIT Patna and the IIT standards are restored.

IIT Patna hostel is a 7-floor building and the distribution is branch-wise on every floor. Usually, the allotment is as follows

  • Ground floor: Civil and Chemical Engineering students
  • 1st floor: Civil and Electrical Engineering students
  • 2nd floor: Mechanical Engineering and EEE students
  • 3rd floor: ME and MME students
  • 4th floor: CS and MME students
  • The MTech and Ph.D. students stay in the top floors usually.

As for the roommate allotment, roommates are allocated in alphabetical order within your branch. Branch. A room has 2-3 students of the same branch and usually the same first alphabet in their name.

Why do less companies visit IIT Patna?

PB
Pranjal Bhargava Posted On : June 21st, 2023
Studied at Indian Institute of Technology, Patna

Honestly, I don’t think IIT Patna has fewer recruiters if you look at the placement statistics and compare them with the other new IITs.

IIT Patna

154

IIT Ropar

NA

IIT Bhubaneshwar

117

IIT Mandi

88 (2023)

IIT Gandhinagar

253

IIT Indore

110

IIT Hyderabad

335

IIT Jodhpur

200

IIT Patna is the 4th among the new IITs. A few reasons why IIT Patna has fewer companies in comparison to some new IITs are

  • The small batch size attracts fewer companies as they are forced to choose from a smaller talent pool in contrast to other IITs with bigger batch size
  • The number of branches here are limited and so the companies that offer profile related to other branches don’t come to IIT Patna
  • A very common reason is that IIT Patna is a new IIT and the students of the same branch of an old IIT have a higher JEE Advanced rank and thus are preferred to students of newer IITs
  • The location of the institute also plays a major role in attracting recruiters and Hyderabad is an IT hub with many startup and Company foundations. Bihar on the other hand is very lacking.
  • The institute is not well-connected to the airport and recruiters don’t want to go through much hassle.

Then again, IIT Patna is developing at a fast pace and attracts recruiters more than many new IITs.

What do other IITs think of IIT Patna?

PB
Pranjal Bhargava Posted On : June 21st, 2023

Your question is highly illogical and those who invest their energy in getting validation from others never become successful. Who cares if someone says IIT Patna is not good if you are getting excellent opportunities here? Moreover, those questioning the credibility of IIT Patna are the same who are afraid of taking risks and want to stay on the safe side. How will you achieve success if you don’t come out of your comfort zone?

The Indian mindset forces students to focus on placements more than anything thus restricting their perspective. I had a few friends who did their internships at foreign universities and they told me that their peers always discussed new ideas and concepts and placements were their last concern.

So, stop thinking about what others think of your college and make the most out of the opportunities available to you!

How should I study for the GATE from now if I want to get into IIT, Patna?

RT
Raktim Tarafdar Posted On : June 21st, 2023

If you want to study for GATE to join IIT Patna, you can start by joining the test series. Made Easy provides a very good test series in addition to the ACE test series. Other tips to follow are

  • Give a minimum of 2-3 tests in a single day and revise your concepts daily. Giving tests will teach you how to handle pressure, time management, strategy, etc.
  • Give equal importance to every subject and do not focus on one subject only. Revise every subject alternatively.
  • Make sticky notes and jot down your weak topics to revise them more frequently.

Follow the above points sincerely and you are good to go.

How is civil engineering at IIT Patna?

PB
Pranjal Bhargava Posted On : June 21st, 2023
Studied at Indian Institute of Technology, Patna

The Civil Engineering department of IIT Patna is well-regarded. Here are a few pros and cons to ensure a better understanding of the branch.

Pros

  • The student-teacher ratio is ideal and ensures individual attention to every student
  • The faculty is young and zealous in contrast to old professors in the other IITs. They are cooperative and approachable thus making matters easier
  • The institute has been established recently so the infrastructure and facilities are new and plentiful. Every student gets the opportunity to actually perform the experiment and handle the instruments.
  • The small batch size means lesser competition and better grades.
  • The city of Bihar has many opportunities in the form of innumerable projects like Bihar Govt., College Construction work, etc that seek approval from the department. This ensures maximum practical exposure and fieldwork.
  • The course structure is flexible, modern, and updated as per industry needs. The old courses have been denounced and new courses in versatile domains have been added to ensure a hybrid course structure.

Cons

  • The small batch size results in lesser competition and thus limits the growth of the students.
  • The research culture especially in the UG programs is pathetic.

Make the final decision based on your personal preferences and after weighing the above points.

How many girls are there in IIT Patna? Is IIT Patna campus fully constructed? Are banks, canteens, grocery shops, etc. available? Is branch change possible there? Is IIT Patna safe for girls?

PB
Pranjal Bhargava Posted On : June 21st, 2023

My sister chose IIT Patna and has been regretting her decision since day one. Despite the good infrastructure, IIT Patna has failed to meet IIT standards in terms of faculties, placement, and cultural environment. Except for the CS branch, the other branches are functioning poorly.

Go through the following points to understand my stance better

  • The faculty is not very passionate and very less qualified. Only a handful of professors hold foreign degrees. The faculty pool sadly does not meet the existing IIT standards.
  • The placement scenario sparing the CS branch is very poor. The released statistics are not true and mislead many.
  • The institute promotes no cultural activities and IIT Patna was not even among the top 5 in any competition in Inter IIT Cultural Meet. College life is dull and students are very demotivated here. No clubs are there to boost the morale of the students.
  • The fest is poorly organized and no proper awards are given out to the winners.
  • The institute has not won a single non-CS competition and its reputation is poor.
  • Apart from CS, no branches have good ongoing projects or research environments. The students have to retort to CS for research work.

Thus, IIT Patna should only be considered if you get CS, else even NITs are better than IIT Patna.

Namrata Das Posted On : July 1st, 2023

As we know, students are rushing to this college due to its distinctive branch change policy, mainly in CSE. If you are one of them, you should score well in your semester exams and try to excel in extracurricular activities. You should also use the resources available at IIT Patna

Here are some points to keep in mind to stand out from others and excel in your grades:

  • CSE and EE: You should have a thorough knowledge of programming and online platforms
  • Mechanical: You can attend the tutorial session from other sources like YouTube, and sharpen your skills through online courses.
  • Civil: You may begin with the study of various tools and study AutoCAD, which opens a wide array of opportunities in the future.

Make use of your time in college and never fail to score good grades
