Which one should I take, NIT Silchar mechanical or IIIT Guwahati for CSE?

SB
Silvia Basu Posted On : July 9th, 2021
Studied at NIT Silchar (2019)

IIIT Guwahati is a recently established institute in comparison to NIT Silchar. IIIT Guwahati’s first batch graduated in the year 2017 hence the placement scenario there is yet to make an impact. The companies are hesitant in investing and recruiting from here. Being a student of NIT Silchar, it is suggested you opt for it.

  • NIT Silchar is an older and reputed institute. Various companies are keen on recruiting from here.
  • The core companies pay their visit here at the time of recruitment every year.
  • Moreover, NIT Silchar has the outstanding infrastructure and a pleasant environment. The campus comprises several lakes that add to the beauty of the campus.
  • Relying on this institute for better placement opportunities and a proper learning environment would be a good decision to make.

Which should I choose, CSE at Nirma University or ECE at NIT Silchar?

RD
Rupsha Das Posted On : July 16th, 2021
Studied at IEM Kolkata (2019)

Based on my friend's input on the academic environment and the placement records, my suggestion would be to go for CSE from Nirma University. You should not miss this opportunity as you would witness that it makes a lot of difference when you end up opting for CSE than ECE.

I would not recommend you to go for NIT Silchar, as their placement record and academics is not that appealing. It is also one of the lower-ranked NITs of India, so try to not opt for it. People are aware of the fact that any lower NIT is not that fulfilling and does not match the standards of the other NITs established already.

Because of all of these factors, my friend ended up leaving NIT Silchar and got into Nirma University which is much better.

Categories CSE at Nirma University ECE at NIT Silchar

Highest CTC 16-22 LPA 18 LPA
Average CTC 7-9 LPA 10 LPA
Recruiting Companies Bosch, Havells, Honeywell, JP Morgan, etc. TCS, IBM, Dell, ZS Associates, etc.

Therefore, be careful while you make your decision as this will shape your future. So choose wisely before making any decision.

Should I join IIIT Guwahati for ECE, or should I join NIT Silchar's EEE?

DB
Devdutta Bose Posted On : June 22nd, 2021
Studied at National Institute of Technology Silchar (2019)

Having a few friends studying in both of these institutes, I can provide you with some details based on my interaction with them. IIIT Guwahati and NIT Silchar are both institutes of national importance. The NIRF Ranking for Engineering 2020 is 66 and 46 respectively.

  • If you want to join the Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) branch, IIIT Guwahati is the only choice because NIT Silchar does not offer this branch.
  • But for others, like Electronics and Communications Engineering (ECE), NITS will be the best selection.
  • Even the alumni of NITS are biased towards their institute.
  • The campus of IIIT Guwahati is new. The institute is well-equipped but yet far behind NITS.
  • IIT Guwahati has a weaker base of alumni. The reason is that it came into existence after NITS.

Which would be better, EEE or ECE at DTU, IIEST Shibpur or NIT Silchar?

PP
Pratik Parikh Posted On : April 11th, 2023
Lives in Bangalore

All three institutes are renowned for their engineering courses, but it ultimately depends on your interests and career goals. Here are some details about both EEE and ECE courses at the three institutes that may help you decide:

DTU:

  • DTU is a prestigious technical university located in Delhi and is known for its engineering courses.
  • The Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) course at DTU focuses on topics like electrical machines, power systems, control systems, and electronics.
  • The Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) course focuses on electronics, communication systems, signal processing, and digital design.
  • Both the courses at DTU have excellent faculty and research facilities.
  • The placement record for both courses is good, with top companies like Microsoft, Amazon, and Google recruiting students.

IIEST Shibpur:

  • IIEST Shibpur, located in West Bengal, is another top institute for engineering courses.
  • The EEE course focuses on power systems, electrical machines, and renewable energy.
  • The ECE course covers topics like communication systems, signal processing, VLSI design, and control systems.
  • IIEST Shibpur has good faculty and research facilities in both courses.
  • The placement record for both courses is good, with top companies like Tata Power, ABB, and Cognizant recruiting students.

NIT Silchar:

  • NIT Silchar is located in Assam and is also a reputed institute for engineering courses.
  • The EEE course at NIT Silchar focuses on power systems, electrical machines, and control systems.
  • The ECE course at NIT Silchar covers topics like communication systems, signal processing, VLSI design, and embedded systems.
  • NIT Silchar has good faculty and research facilities in both courses.
  • The placement record for both courses is good, with companies like Samsung, Intel, and L&T recruiting students.

Some pros and cons of both courses at the three institutes are:

Pros of EEE:

  • Focus on power systems and electrical machines, which are essential in many industries.
  • Higher demand for electrical engineers in the job market.
  • Good faculty and research facilities in all three institutes.

Cons of EEE:

  • May not have as broad a scope as ECE.
  • May require more theoretical knowledge.

Pros of ECE:

  • Focus on communication systems, signal processing, and VLSI design, which are in high demand in many industries.
  • Offers a wider range of career opportunities.
  • Good faculty and research facilities in all three institutes.

Cons of ECE:

  • May require more practical knowledge and skills.
  • More competition in the job market due to a higher number of graduates.

It would be recommended to consider DTU as it is a highly reputed institute with excellent academic programs and resources, making it a great option compared to other given institutes.

What should I prefer, ECE in NIT Silchar or CS in IIIT Guwahati?

SR
Sharmistha Dutta Ray Posted On : June 27th, 2021
B.Tech Mechanical Engineering, National Institute of Technology Silchar (2023)

Having friends studying at both the institutions, I can say that IIIT Guwahati is a new college and this college is outside the city. Both IIIT Guwahati and NIT Silchar are good in their own ways.

  • IIIT Guwahati is a little expensive as compared to NIT.
  • The placements at IIIT Guwahati are good. But it is advisable to take NIT Silchar as your option if you have interest in electronics.
  • If you are only interested in the CSE branch then you can go for IIIT Guwahati instead.
  • At NIT Silchar major IT companies like Microsoft visit the campus for placements.
  • Most of the companies allow ECE students to sit for placements.
  • You will get more opportunities at NIT Silchar than at IIIT Guwahati. Also, NIT Silchar has got better infrastructure than IIIT Guwahati.
  • The college has got better sports facilities, better hostel facilities.

Which is better given I am more interested in programming, a CSE at IIIT Guwahati, an ECE at NIT Agartala, or an ME at NIT Silchar?

PB
Prakriti Basu Posted On : June 28th, 2021
Studied at Calcutta University (2018)

The short answer is CSE at IIIT Guwahati. If you are primarily interested in programming and coding culture, CSE at IIIT Guwahati is the best choice. However, if you are strongly passionate about any branch then college must not make a huge difference.

I have friends studying in all of these colleges and honestly, they do differ according to their ranking and branch. But if you are keen on CSE then such factors become secondary.

Nevertheless, here are some things you must know before choosing.

  • ME at NIT Silchar is also a great option if mechanical engineering is your passion. It has a better ranking among all these options.
  • IIIT Guwahati has a great potential of growing to significant heights in the next few years. That’s why CSE at IIIT Guwahati is the best bet for now if you are keen on programming.
  • ECE at NIT Agartala cannot surpass any of the above options because neither the ranking is better nor the branch.
