Manipal Institute of Technology is a highly regarded engineering college. Here are a few pros and cons of the institute

Pros:

  • MIT not only offers an amazing campus life but also a fun-filled life outside the campus.
  • The refined crowd at Manipal combined with its excellent environment will groom your personality as a whole.
  • MIT has a rich club culture that caters to almost every passion, hobby, and niche. You can work with people who share a similar passion.
  • MIT gives you ample opportunities to add value to your resume by joining IAESTE, doing some foreign internships, or being a part of Formula Manipal.
  • MIT has a good location and there are many places to explore on weekends like Goa, Agumbe, Coorg, and Gokarna.
  • The campus is beautiful with a picturesque view surrounded by western ghats.

Cons

  • Most people will have a notion that you are either too rich and got through donations or you had no other choice.
  • The crowd also has students who are involved in bad habits. If you become a part of them, you may end up ruining your career.
  • The facilities do little to teach students and set very challenging question papers.

Overall the pros clearly overshadow the cons so you can overlook them and consider joining MIT without any hesitation.

How good is Manipal Institute of Technology for engineering?

AG

MIT is a premier engineering college and a preferred choice of many engineering colleges. A close friend of mine shared his experience of how his perspective regarding MIT completely changed after 2 years of joining the institute.

During the initial 2 years, he spent the worst time of his life regretting his decision. However, in the third year, he started interacting with his peers and found out that everyone has a niche, a hobby they are passionate about. This struck a chord within him. He spent the 4th year compensating for his lost time and completely transformed himself.

The academic environment is like most other engineering colleges. Most of the faculties are interested in teaching and you will have to put extra effort into learning. You have to be interactive during lectures and make the professors feel that you are genuinely interested in the subject. There are many good professors too who are very keen to teach you and guide you. However, make sure you are not choosing a branch you are not interested in as this may not only make you regret joining MIT but also affect your career largely.

Ultimately, college just gives you the wings to fly Building yourself, and your personality and gaining knowledge depends on you alone!

Should I go for NMIMS MPSTME or Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT)?

AG
Akriti Gupta Posted On : September 7th, 2023

Without a doubt, MIT Manipal is a better option than NMIMS MPSTME. It’s one of the top private Engineering colleges in the country with a better placement scenario than most other private institutes including NMIMS. MIT has a diverse crowd and a vibrant culture making it an amazing choice to spend 4 years of your life. The culture is immensely diverse and this is probably the coolest place to spend the 4 years of your college life. The infrastructure is also great and MIT Manipal has some very famous alumni like

  • Satya Nadella
  • Rajiv Suri
  • Banmali Agarwala
  • Rajeev Chandrashekhar
  • Faizal Kottikollon

The institute has produced amazing startups like Fractal Works, Cwain Microsystems, Mean Metal Motors, etc

In all, you should definitely considering choosing MIT over NMIMS.

Is MIT Manipal a good college for hard workers, or is it just for rich spoiled brats?

SV

Computer Science, and Engineering, MIT Manipal

No, it’s just a preconceived notion that MIT has only rich spoiled kids and no one is serious about academics here. Not everyone you find here is rich some are hardworking students who are studying hard to repay the loan they had to take for its high fees. MIT has several active student clubs and many students are involved in technical stuff day and night.

Manipal also has “Student Projects” wherein every student project comprises a small and talented team of students with similar interests and passion for building something big, be it Robots, Cars, Satellites, Rovers, or Drones.

Some of the major student projects are:

  1. Project Manas - Build a self-driving car.
  2. RoboManipal - Makes robots and competes with various robotics teams in India.
  3. Solar Mobil - Trying to make a fully solar-powered car.

There are many other students' projects too. The purpose of mentioning this is to highlight the kind of academic exposure and opportunities this institute has. The CS students actively participate in collecting and analyzing the data from their surroundings and work very hard to achieve their goals.

Manipal caters to almost everything, be it Developing mobile applications, building websites, writing, or even a start-up. It also provides facilities for participating in MOOCs or Online courses or Competitive coding. The well-stocked Central Library is home to many hardworking students.

Ultimately, MIT is not only for the rich kids but also caters to the hardworking ones. It’s you who will decide what you reap here!

AG

Studied at Manipal Institute Of Technology

Manipal Institute of Technology offers various UG and PG courses like B.Tech, M.Tech, and M.C.A. under various specializations. B.Tech CSE is the flagship course of the institute.

Admissions are offered through MET counseling. Seats are allocated on the basis of MET scores, availability of seats, category, and other factors. For admission to the MTech course, one needs to clear GATE or MET scores, while M.C.A. admissions are based on the merit list released by the institute.

Here is the step-wise eligibility and selection process that will help you decide if you are eligible for MIT or not

  • You should have passed 10+2
  • You should have studied Physics, Mathematics, and English as compulsory subjects and one of Biotechnology, Biology, Chemistry or any vocational subject as optional.
  • The vocational subject must be related to either the chemical, civil, computer, electrical, or mechanical streams.
  • You should have scored 50% marks.
  • You should have taken the MET for selection
  • If qualified the MET will have to go for MET counselling.
  • Selections will be made after 5 rounds of counseling

Other option for admission to MIT includes the NRI quota. To avail this, you should have stayed or your parent must be working there. You don't have to give the entrance exam but the fees charged through this mode are extremely high. It does not offer the management quota so the quality of the crowd is not sacrificed.

Does Manipal Institute of Technology really have to be so expensive?

AB
Aditi Banerjee Posted On : September 8th, 2023
Lives in Bangalore

Manipal Institute of Technology is a well-regarded engineering college that charges high fees for all the courses. Here are a few reasons that justify the high fees it charges to a certain extent

  • Manipal Institute of Technology is India's first fully self-funded engineering college not supported by the government in any way. Also, it does not receive funds from any private business groups. So the only source of income for the institute is the student's fees thus they are high.
  • Every student gets a free laptop the cost of which is included in the fees. This laptop helps you from day one and you don't have to even return it.
  • MIT Manipal has a well-maintained campus with complete electricity backup and 24-hour running and heated water in the hostels. Additionally, it has an extensive rainwater harvesting system, and maintaining it costs a lot.
  • Students have access to high-speed internet throughout the campus.
  • The infrastructure is improving every year and new hostels are coming up as it is slowly increasing its intake and faculty pool. MU has a sister university in Sikkim and Jaipur Manipal is on the way. Expanding also costs a lot.
  • MIT has an excellent teacher-student ratio much better than most educational institutions in India.
  • Manipal has a lot of scholarship opportunities and almost 10% of the batch studies at the college's expense.

The above points completely justify the fees charged by MIT. Remember that what you pay for an education at Manipal is nothing in comparison to the life lessons you get and opportunities to learn.
