Are mobile phones allowed at the Madras Institute of Technology?

UT
Ushes Thayumanavan Posted On : April 26th, 2021
BE Electronics and Communication Engineering, Madras Institute of Technology, Tamil Nadu, India (2021)

Yes, mobile phones are allowed inside the premises of MIT provided the faculty teaching inside the class does not create an issue out of it. The points below are some of the scenarios which are generally seen inside the campus

  • There are several instances where students have to face problems due to the use of mobile phones inside the class or inside an exam hall.
  • Using a Smartphone inside an ongoing class is usually not a big deal. There are some teachers who throw the student out of the class if they encounter a phone and it usually leads to unwanted circumstances.
  • There are students who are daring enough to use a Smartphone inside an exam hall, which is a funny experience. But, if such a student is caught, he/she has to face major punishment after such an act.

Therefore, using a Smartphone inside a normal lecture is not a big deal inside Madras Institute of Technology.

How is the Madras Institute of Technology?

SV
Shaurya Verma Posted On : April 26th, 2021
MBA from Madras Institute of Technology, Tamil Nadu, India (2010)

Madras Institute of Technology has always marked a high rank in the history of engineering colleges in India. It is an excellent institute for an engineering degree, which provides a separate well-established syllabus and procedures being a direct branch of Anna University, which is different from other colleges affiliated to Anna University.

The points below give a brief overview of all the advantages and disadvantages of the institute.

  • The junior-senior relationship is quite good. There are several intra and inter-college fests organized.
  • All the fests are conducted entirely by students, having independent student governing bodies. In the first year of UG, students need to either take one of the three – NSS, NSO, or YRC. There are several clubs like the personality development association, Rotaract club, etc which deal with social welfare and development.
  • The fees of all the branches of Anna University are quite low, which is a good initiative of the Tamil Nadu government. Even after that, deserving students get scholarships at Madras Institute of Technology.
  • The campus life is excellent. The campus is situated very near to the Chrompet bus stand and the Chrompet Railway station. There are two cinema halls, several hotels, and restaurants, shopping malls, banks, etc close to the campus. So, there is a good arrangement for entertainment nearby.
  • Although Madras Institute of Technology is better than most other similar-graded institutes, there are few disadvantages too. For example, there is a lack of cleanliness inside the campus, and few faculties are not good at teaching subjects properly.

How can I get admission to MIT after I pursue B.E degree from Thapar University?

SB
Shyam Bansal Posted On : August 11th, 2021
Studied at Thapar University (2019)

After being rejected from MIT, and getting admission in UC Berkeley, I got to know where my shortcomings were. I might not have another chance to change it, but I can surely give you some pointers which might be useful for you.

  • Always try keeping your grades up. Try to obtain a minimum of 9 CGPA or above.
  • After applying for MIT in your 6th semester, do not take your 7th semester lightly. Your scores will play an important role.
  • Try to obtain a high GRE score of 330 or above. Focus mainly on English for GRE.
  • Read English newspapers, editorials, magazines, and novels to improve your vocabulary and writing.
  • Study GRE materials. Quantitative Aptitude in GRE is comparatively easier.
  • Do projects on innovative topics, publish your work, and try acquiring internships at IITs and IISC.

Lastly, talk to the teachers as they can guide you thoroughly. Make your Statement of Purpose worthy enough. But always remember that MIT is not your only option. Do not get disappointed if you don't get admission there as there will be other options also.

Is there lateral entry in the Madras Institute of Technology?

AD
Anita Deshmukh Posted On : April 26th, 2021
Studied at Madras Institute of Technology, Tamil Nadu, India

No, lateral entry in any branch of B.Tech is not available in Madras Institute of Technology or any other campuses of Anna university like CEG, etc. So, students can not directly join B. Tech after a polytechnic degree, but there is an option to join the institute for the same streams, which is stated below in points.

  • For students who are interested in B.Tech streams after a diploma, the Madras Institute of Technology provides part-time courses in the same disciplines.
  • Every campus of Anna University, whether it is MIT, CEG, SAP, or ACT, provides part-time courses for students.
  • For a student interested in a part-time course, he/she must have a minimum two-year work experience in the industry. Along with the experience, students also need to show a letter from the current employer about the recommendation of admission.
  • The part-time courses in B.Tech are for three and a half years. The academic year for part-time courses starts in the month of December.

Through the part-time courses, candidates can have the degree in their chosen streams, even without a lateral entry in Madras Institute of Technology.

What will be the cutoff for the Madras Institute of Technology 2018 (aeronautical engineering)?

SR
Sritama Ray Posted On : May 18th, 2021
Studied at Madras Institute of Technology, Tamil Nadu (2016)

The cut-off marks are generally very high for aeronautical engineering at Madras Institute of Technology. This may vary according to the category you belong to.

  • If you are a general category student then the cut off marks will be 198 or more.
  • It will be 196 for BC, 194 for BCM, 195 for MBC and 190 for SC/ST students.

The cut off marks are decided based upon the percentage of subjects like Physics, Chemistry and Maths specially.

Suppose if you are a state board student, then the total marks would be 200. If the marks scored in Physics, Chemistry and Maths are 190,196,195 respectively then the percentage is -

Physics

[190/200 x 100] = 95%

Chemistry

[196/200 x 100] = 98%

Maths

[195/200 x 100] = 97.5 %

Cut Off

97.5 +[(95+98) ÷ 2] = 194

The cut off marks are very high for aeronautical engineering. You must score very good marks and get higher rankings in order to secure a seat in this branch. The competition is also too high.

Is the Madras Institute of Technology located outer Chennai city?

VS
V R Sridharan Posted On : May 2nd, 2021
Studied at Madras Institute of Technology, Tamil Nadu, India

Madras Institute of Technology is located at Chromepet. It is not quite outside of Chennai as other places, such as Vandaloor or Poonthamalli.

The Chromepet location has turned into one of the solid urban centers of Chennai. It holds historic Vetri theatre, Saravana stores, and all great national and international stores and great restaurants.

The newly planned bus station will be nearer to Chromepet than say Guindy or Anna Nagar. One of the distinct advantages is the Railway station which is practically built on MIT’s land. You can even reach Airport within 10 minutes of travel and Central Railway Station within 45 mins.

What is the best advice to give first year juniors at the Madras Institute of Technology?

AM
Abhishek Mathur Posted On : May 4th, 2021
Studied at Madras Institute of Technology, graduated in 2020

My relative used to be a student of Madras Institute of Technology so she will be the best person who I think will be able to answer this question.

  • Try to track your T-senior as soon as possible as they can help in a lot of ways.
  • Try to be an active member in as many student clubs as possible. Madras Institute of Technology has eight departments and more than twelve student clubs.
  • Make sure you do not return to your hostel as soon as your classes get over. Get into a room of LHC where there would be some activities going on. Try to attend all of them.
  • Try not to take your classes lightly. It is a very difficult college to get into and even some of the most diligent students do not end up getting admitted.
  • Madras Institute of Technology has also seen 6 pointers end up getting placed and 10 pointers applying for TCS. Like all colleges, CGPA is very important for progress.

Aptitude and coding tests can also go a long way no matter what department you may be in. Attending robotics classes and gliding contests can also be very influential. In addition to that, you can also learn basics about the development of mobile apps, the creation of websites, etc.

You can also get involved in activities like Rotaract, Youth Red Cross, Computer Science Association, or any other association and learn to organize big events.

How do I get admission into the B.Tech program at Madras Institute of Technology?

AP
Arjun Pandey Posted On : May 4th, 2021
B.E. from Madras Institute of Technology, graduated in 2019

My senior from school who used to be a student of Madras Institute of Technology told me that he got admission through the Other state Quota. There are other quotas as well. For example:

  • TNEA: Only those students who have completed their 10 (+20) Tamil Nadu can apply through this entry.
  • Other state Quota: Students who have proof of residence of other states and completed their 10 (+2) from some other state can make use of this quota for their admission.
  • NRI & FN quota - For making use of this quota, candidates must have passed their 10 (+2). Passing from an English medium school or having proficiency in English is compulsory for candidates. They should have passed in all subjects and scored a minimum of 50% aggregate in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry put together in qualifying examinations.
  • Industrial Quota: Parent(s) and/or guardian(s) should have an industry.

In addition to the above quotas, there are also government quotas, governor quotas, Vice-Chancellor quotas which are probably getting letters of recommendation from the governor, Vice-Chancellor, and other high-ranking officials in the government.
