Can someone crack the IIM Indore IPM exam without having maths in 12th standard?

AC
Aiditi Choudhary Posted On : August 28th, 2021
Masters from Miranda House, University of Delhi

Yes, it is possible to crack the IPM exam at IIM Indore without maths in 12th grade. A non-math student can apply for IPM at IIM Indore. However, it can be difficult for a student without a Maths background to clear the paper as the question paper is loaded with Higher Maths - Questions from Class 11th and 12th Math section.

Past Year Paper analysis suggests that even the basic maths questions (till class 10th) are of higher difficulty level. So, it won't be easy, but it’s not impossible.

With hard work, proper preparation, and practice you can clear IPM. But the IPM course also has mathematics studies. It includes courses of pure maths, statistics, economics often driven by maths, etc.

IPM from IIM Rohtak can be an alternative to IPM from IIM Indore, as the paper is much easier and the difficulty level of Maths questions is also manageable.

Why does the IPM curriculum (in IIM Indore) have humanities?

S
Sagardeep Posted On : June 26th, 2023
Manager at Asian Paints

IIM Indore's Integrated Programme in Management (IPM) curriculum includes Humanities as an essential discipline. The traditional mindset considers Humanities as an inferior subject, but the truth is that Humanities subjects like Sociology, Political Science, and Psychology are very useful for Managers. Studying Humanities gives a wider perspective of the world. Nearly every subject nowadays has a “behavioral” aspect to it.

For example, Behavioral Economics and Behavioral Finance are emerging fields where the understanding of human behavior and psychology is applied to economics and finance.

Similarly, studying Sociology gives a perspective on how societies form and work, which might be useful in one's career. Political Science is again a very important subject as it helps understand how governments and institutions work.

It is important to understand that whatever you study might not give you immediate monetary benefit, but that doesn't mean it is not going to help in the long run. No doubt that subjects like Statistics are very important, but running and analyzing plain numbers alone isn’t the key, you always need to have a wider perspective.

The inclusion of Humanities in the IPM curriculum is indeed an advantage that IPM has over other such courses at the undergraduate level. It helps students develop a more holistic view of the world, which is essential for future managers. In nearly every subject course of Humanities, the first class is about ‘why’ managers need that particular Humanities subject. Therefore, it is clear that Humanities is an essential discipline that every aspiring manager needs to study.

Which B-school is harder to get into when you have a 'mediocre' academic profile and 1 yr of work experience, FMS Delhi or IIM K, L, and I?

AG
Akriti Gupta Posted On : May 23rd, 2023
lives in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India

Among the above B-schools, FMS will be easier to enter because other IIMs like IIM K, IIM L, and IIM I give more weightage to past academic performance. FMS selection will be based on Personal Interviews, Group Discussions, and CAT scores.

IIM K gives 40% weightage while the initial shortlisting of candidates for Personal Interviews is contrary to IIM L and IIM Indore which gives only 20% weightage. IIM Indore gives no weightage to work experience where IIM K gives only 5% and IIM L gives 10% weightage.

All in all, if you are a mediocre student then you have to outperform others in terms of CAT score and PI/GD performance. Indore is home for freshers and competing here will be difficult but you should focus more on FMS then IIM L and then IIM K for your shortlisting and put your best foot forward and convert your calls.

All the best and Best of luck for your D-day.

Which is better for a fresher, MDI Gurgaon HR or IIM Indore Mumbai campus?

VY
Vijay Yadav Posted On : August 27th, 2021
Studied Strategy & Marketing at Indian School of Business (2019)

Both IIM Indore Mumbai Campus and MDI Gurgaon are very good institutes for Management Studies. Because I know some people studying in both these institutes, I can give you a brief overview of the college.

  • Both institutes are on a par with each other on an academic level however there is a slight difference when it comes to job opportunities and such.
  • In IIM Indore, Mumbai Campus every student gets the opportunity to get an MBA without being forced to select between any specializations with the MBA degree.
  • They are free to select any specialization or not.
  • This helps all the students to learn more about their interests.
  • This also allows students to explore different fields and find out what they particularly excel at enabling maximum career satisfaction.
  • Another factor is the alumni network, IIM has definitely a better alumni network than MDI.
  • It becomes easier for better job opportunities through the alumni network which are otherwise harder to get.
Categories MDI Gurgaon IIM Indore (Mumbai)
Course Fee 21.34 lakh 17.35 lakh
Highest CTC 35 LPA 30 LPA
Average CTC 20 LPA 18 LPA
Recruiting Companies Loreal, Nestle, KPMG, HSBC, etc. ICICI Bank, Phillips, Deloitte, Reliance, etc.

MDI Gurgaon is good, especially in HR Management. But students in MDI are somewhat forced to pursue their flagship course, HR. So therefore it is suggested that you go for IIM Indore to receive better opportunities and can select from several options.

Can I drop one year for the IPMAT (IIM Indore)?

VP
Vishal Pandey Posted On : August 31st, 2021
Studies Integrated Programme in Management, IIM Indore (2024)

It is a risky option to drop a year for IPMAT because the acceptance rate is extremely low i.e. 0.7%. It would be better to keep other options as a backup in place.

You can start studying for other entrances as well or get enrolled for a course if you want to save a year. You can also leave and go for IPM a year later if you get selected.

But, if you think that you are very serious about IPM, and you will do whatever it takes to get on by preparing rigorously after taking a drop for a year, and if you have a strong belief that you will get into it, then consider taking a drop.

Which is better, a 5-year IPM through IIM Indore or a B.Tech through IIT?

AP
Aritra Pareek Posted On : August 28th, 2021
PGDM from Indian Institute of Management Indore (2008)

A few of my friends graduated from IIM Indore and having read online reviews of the alumni from other IITs here are some things I got to know.

  • First, you need to check on your strengths, Aptitude or Science because both are different roads.
  • Competition in IPM is - about 12k candidates appearing for the exams, 1200 are shortlisted, and 120 are selected for the course.
  • If you once choose IPM you won't be able to get into the technical part but after your B.Tech, you still have a chance to go for IIMs.
  • It depends on your priority to choose the career path.
  • Most of the students go with B.Tech through IIT and then MBA from the IIMs.
  • IIT+IIM is the perfect combo for the industry.
  • IPM is still a new course. The IITs enjoy a legacy that is yet to be built by the IPM.
  • The exposure would be more in IITs.

The only benefit in IPM is that your career path would be set. However, for better placement opportunities going with IIT+IIM would be great. Also the placement team and the process are different for both the courses. Overall both IIT and IPM are best in their field. So make a wise choice and play within your strengths.

How should one attempt the IIM Indore IPM exam? Can you provide the previous year papers of the IIM Indore IPM exam?

SA
Swarnava Aruva Posted On : August 28th, 2021
Studied at Integrated Programme in Management, IIM Indore (2019)

One of my friends is a recent alumnus of IIM Indore. He took the IPM exam and here is a brief overview of what he mentioned about the examination.

  • There is no additional section-wise time limit and you will have the liberty to compartmentalize the time as per your convenience.
  • Nonetheless, the exam strictly follows negative marking schemes, making it quite trickier.
  • You should attempt questions that are rather easier to go for and are slightly less time-consuming.
  • Stay confident before taking the exam. Besides, your preparation should be top-notch, and according to the updated curriculum of the exam.

Hope this helps answer your question.

Will there be double intake of IPM students at IIM Indore?

KB
Kasturi Binani Posted On : August 24th, 2021
Studied at Integrated Programme in Management (IPM) at IIM Indore in 2020

If the current scenario is accurate, the student intake of IPM will be doubled only if the IIM bill is passed. This move has already brought a downgrade in the image of IIM Indore. Doubling the intake of students will more than dampen the image of IIM Indore. This step will make it one of the worst business schools in the country.

The batch already has around 120 students so it may not be possible to be in charge of a bigger batch. It is difficult enough already.

There is also a lack of capable faculty given the fact for the first 3 years, you will be taught by guest faculty.
