Has anyone gotten into NITIE with second division marks in his class 12th?

RG
Rituparna Ghose Posted On : August 10th, 2021
PGDIM Industrial Management, National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2018)

One of my cousins graduated from NITIE and a few people in his batch had a percentage around the 60s in their 12th boards. And you could find many too.

NITIE gives more weightage to your performance in GDPI rather than past academics at least for PGDIM and PGDISEM courses. You just need to score 97 percentile in CAT for getting a call. Then it all depends on your GD PI performance.

NITIE does consider academic scores in the selection process. However, you can compensate for your poor scores (if any) by performing well in GD and PI rounds.

In a nutshell, I can say that the emphasis on academic scores in NITIE selection criteria is lesser than that in IIMs and many other colleges.

What are the chances of your selection in IOCL, BPCL and NITIE Mumbai if you scored a rank of nearly AIR 1000 in the GATE from the mechanical stream?

My brother is a B.Tech pass out from Electronics Engg. at IIT (BHU). His experience was absolutely disappointing and he told me about the bitter reality of IIT BHU. The faculty is very unqualified and the curriculum is obsolete and irrelevant to the current trends in the industry.

You will be surprised to know that some profs don't even have Ph.D. despite the fact that they are the only professors for that subject in the dept. Also, the administration of the college will provide a total of friction against any kind of endeavors you may seek. You will find some professors really difficult to tolerate. Though the current HOD is an excellent professor/researcher and very progressive/dynamic; so is not the case with the entire dept.

The TPO cell is very stagnant; they have a very weird logic of inviting core companies. Getting a new company approved for placement is next to impossible. The placement rate itself is very very bad. As per the research quality of the department, there are no research groups for many important core domains. It's extremely disappointing with it being an IIT and all and having worse research scope than an NIT in many fields. Also, they won't encourage independent research.

You don't have enough electives to choose from. The classrooms are gloomy.

While you can, go to a good NIT, or a BITS Pilani college. Electronics Engg in IIT (BHU) is a bitter disappointment.

NITIE requires CAT scores for its PGDIM & PGDSM courses.

The table shows CAT cut-offs for the year 2022 (Reserved Categories):

CATEGORY

PGDIM %

PGDSM %

EWS

Which one is better just after the final year of mechanical: 2 years job in Maruti Suzuki or 2 years PGDIE course in NITIE?

PGDISEM, NITIE (2020)

One of my friends faced a similar situation as you and here are some tips for you regarding your question. My friend was placed in Maruti Suzuki after his graduation and then got selected in NITIE. He went with NITIE.

If you have a good academic profile i.e., good scores from 10th, 12th, B. Tech, and extracurriculars then you can directly go with NITIE.

If not then having one or two years of work experience may also help you in getting shortlists from the company on-campus placements.

One more thing you should be confident enough about is that you can convert to NITIE, Mumbai again if you want to have some work experience.

In NITIE, which programme is a better choice among PGDMM and PGDPM?

AS
Atul Sharma Posted On : August 18th, 2021
PGDPM from National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2018)

One of my friends is studying at NITIE, and as per his insights, both the programs are excellent. The final choice depends upon the area of your interest. Consider the following points before making the final choice.

  • PGDPM concentrates on teaching project management along with functional areas like Finance, HR, and others. It is a strategic level course that creates professionals for every sector or industry.
  • PGDMM is a course focusing on the manufacturing and operational part of a business. It builds skilled professional that is well-equipped with the latest technologies.
  • As per the past placement statistics, the average package for PGDPM is INR 11.5 LPA, and for PGDMM is INR 10.8 LPA.

Apart from the above points, detailed information about the two programs is available on the institute webpage. You can compare the programs and make your final choice. Overall, the scope of both programs is high.

NITIE Mumbai offers 5 different post-graduate level programs of which only the Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Engineering (PGDIE) program accepts a GATE score. There is no branch-specific cutoff for admission into this program of NITIE Mumbai.

The approximate category-wise cutoff of GATE is given below for your reference.

Does an industrial engineer have any advantage when applying for an MBA at NITIE?

SP
Sreeja Prasad Posted On : August 13th, 2021
PGDIM from NITIE (2019)

NITIE Mumbai is the brand name for engineers targeting management courses in India. The institute offers various industrial management courses for students.

I have a friend studying PGDIM in NITIE Mumbai, and as per his insights, you do not get any advantage of being an Industrial Engineer in NITIE Mumbai, if you are focusing on PGDIM or PGDISEM. As it offers you an Industrial Management degree, having an Industrial Engineering does add anything to your profile. However, you may get an edge over other students if targeting M. Tech through the GATE exam.

Overall, in MBA from NITIE, an industrial engineer is on the same platform as other candidates.

How much GATE score does an EC student require to get into NITIE?

HV
Harshika Verma Posted On : August 16th, 2021
PGDIE from National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2020)

The minimum GATE score to get admission to NITIE is different every year, but it is generally between 700-750 for all the branches. However, if you belong to any reserved category, your cutoff score could be less than the General category.

If your score is above the minimum score required, you will probably get a call for an interview. After receiving the call, you will have to appear for the GD-PI round. Your final selection and the allotment of the branch will depend upon your academic records and performance in the GD and PI round.

Hence, the GATE score required to get admission in NITIE is generally very high above 750, but all this is worth it because the college offers very good facilities and placement opportunities to ita students.

Is there different cutoff for different branches through gate in PGDIE NITIE?

SP
Subham Patra Posted On : August 13th, 2021
Studied Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Engineering at National Institute of Industrial Engineering

I have a few friends from NITIE so I can give you some information regarding admission to the institute. It accepts GATE scores for PGDIE, PGDMM, and PDPM courses. They shortlist students for GD-PI based on their GATE scores. The required cutoff for GATE varies every year, due to many variables. Here are the cutoff trends for 2021.

Category  GATE Cutoff
General  609
OBC 473
SC 345
ST  317
Physically Disabled  473

The GD-PI round will have 60% weightage for your final selection and the remaining 40% will include your GATE score, academic records, and your work experience if you have any.

Hence, the GATE cutoff for every branch in NITIE is the same but you will also have to perform very well in your GD/PI round to get admission.

Can I get admission into NITIE in the SCM or Ops course by taking the GATE mechanical? If yes, what is the cut-off?

MD
Mehul Dutta Posted On : August 11th, 2021
Studied at the National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2019)

Yes, it is possible to join NITIE by any of the GATE examinations streams. Few of my friends got admission at NITIE through GATE.

Admission to NITIE Mumbai through the GATE examinations from any stream of engineering will make you land up at NITIE in PGDIE – PG Diploma in Industrial Engineering.

There are two new courses available at NITIE, Mumbai: PGDPM – Project Management and PGDMM – Manufacturing Management. You can take admission to these courses through GATE too.

Coming to cut-offs, it varies from year to year. For this year the GATE cutoff score (general) was 609. If you feel you have a decent score and you'll get a GD, PI shortlist, and then you can convert it.
