Both IIT Delhi and IIT Roorkee are prestigious engineering institutions in India. Known for their excellence in academics and research.
However, the choice depends on you and your preference. According to me, IIT Roorkee is a better choice than IIT Delhi.
M.Tech in Electrical Engineering programs offered by IIT BHU and IIT Bhubaneswar are not similar, so the choice must be based on what you are looking for in the program. The EE department of IIT BHU offers M.Tech programs in Electrical Machines and Drives, Power Systems, Control Systems, Power Electronics, and Interdisciplinary Systems Engineering. Whereas Electrical science department of IIT Bhubaneswar offers an M.Tech program in Power system engineering, and Electronics & Communication Engineering.
IIT BHU has one of the largest and well-connected alumni foundation in India. The placement scenario of EE is very good at IIT BHU. According to 2019 placement statistics, a total of 52 companies visited the campus for recruitment. 88 students got placed from the Electrical Engineering department with an average package of 8.19 LPA. On the other hand, about 68% of the M.Tech batch have been placed successfully in the year 2019 from IIT Bhubaneswar. A total of 89 companies visited the campus. The highest number of jobs has been received from core industries. The average placement package offered at this IIT was 11.44 LPA.
Apart from placements both colleges provide a large platform for research and development. There are 7 core laboratories such as Control system, Electrical machines & drives, High voltage, Network, Power Electronics, Power system, and System simulation in IIT BHU. Whereas there are 4 core laboratories such as Electrical Machines and Power Electronics, Power energy system, and Measurement & Electronic instrumentation present in IIT Bhubaneswar for research and practicals.
No IIT has department-specific placements and usually open to all placements are done wherein companies allow students from different branches to sit for placements. There are only a handful of core companies that discriminate between students of their branch and other branches not letting them sit for placements.
So MTech placements usually mean competing with a number of students from different branches for top companies like GE, Bosch, or Texas Instruments. Most visiting companies are software companies that allow students from most branches to participate.
The placement scenario for MTech Electrical at IIT Bhubaneswar is quite good. Out of the 13 students studying in 2018-20 batch, 12 got placed in reputed MNC’s like L&T Heavy Engineering, KEC International, and many other companies. The packages offered by MNCs range from 6 LPA to 9 LPA for core companies. There are two areas of specialization for MTech in the EE branch at IIT Bhuvaneswar- Power System Engineering (PSE) and Power Electronics and Drives (PED). Judging by the statistics, around 90% of students in M.Tech Electrical Engineering get placed in IIT Bhuvaneswar. It is quite imperative to note that the scenario for placement in Power System Engineering specialization is better than Power Electronics and Drives(PED). It is due to the fact that PED is a new branch in the institute which was started in 2019. So the first batch of students from PED is yet to experience any placement milieu. However, several companies like delta Electronics have shown their interests and are keen to visit the campus for placements. Although the Mtech program in EE at IIT Bhuvaneswar is among the new ones, yet it has attracted quite decent MNCs for placements.
