sd
saptarshi dutta Posted On : October 4th, 2023

I am listing below the advantages of each of these colleges-

LHMC-

  1. It is located at Connaught Place.
  2. It offers the prestigious DU tag.
  3. LHMC has better academics than VMMC.
  4. It is an all-girls college, so it is safer for girls.
  5. You’ll get the Delhi State quota for PG seats.

VMMC-

  1. It is located at South Extension, near AIIMS.
  2. It has better infrastructure than LHMC.
  3. The clinical exposure is better due to the greater diversity of cases.
  4. Its co-ed environment will make you more comfortable to work with the opposite gender.
  5. It offers guaranteed internal PG quota in hospitals like RML. An internal PG quota will be of immense help for your higher studies.

Both the colleges are good, and you should choose between them based on your personal preference.

What is life like in VMMC?

sd
saptarshi dutta Posted On : September 25th, 2023

This is an important question for medical aspirants.

As I joined VMMC, I had the same question in mind. After spending some time at this institution, I realized that it is a bittersweet experience. You’ll attend classes regularly, from 8 in the morning to 4 in the evening. On top of that, there are 2 hours of lab, and alternate tests. It does get exhausting after a while.

In comparison to other DU medical colleges, the study load is not much. You will also get the advantage of an internal PG quota. VMMC is close to most of the markets- CP, Lajpat Nagar, Sarojini Nagar, etc. Also, there are affordable hangout places nearby.

So, you will experience both good and challenging moments at VMMC. You’ll learn a lot from this institution, and grow into a skilled medical professional.

Do people in AIIMS-D, JIPMER, AFMC, MAMC, VMMC, LHMC, and UCMS become egoistic?

RT
Raktim Tarafdar Posted On : October 4th, 2023

Medical students from all these colleges are quite decent. They are normal people studying at reputed institutions. I have good friends in MAMC and LHMC.

It is in fact society that puts an extra burden on these people. They are expected to be social all the time. But this expectation is very unrealistic.

It is not right to put labels on these individuals. Their busy schedule should not be confused with egoistic behavior.

How is the internship (after MBBS) at VMMC Safdarjung Hospital, Delhi?

AB

The internship scenario at VMMC is quite disappointing and tiring. The number of patients is so huge in all the departments and interns have to work more than required to get the work done. Their focus is not to learn new procedures but to complete the work and go. Here is the department-wise scenario

  • Pediatrics : In this department, interns are required to find all the case sheets(files) and reports and arrange them before the rounds begin. They are also responsible for dextrose monitoring and discharges. If you are posted in labor, you will have to ensure the baby’s safety.
  • Surgery : Here, interns are required to do sampling, dressing, and discharges. In emergency minor OT, you will have to I n D, suturing, catheterization, and such. Interns also go to OT to watch the surgeries. Postgraduate students may let you do procedures like hydrocele on minor OT days.
  • Medicine : The patient load varies from season to season. In dengue season, it’s maximum and you will always be busy doing sampling and cannulation.
  • OBC : Here you are responsible for sampling, cannulation, catheterization, and NST. You can also take deliveries in the labor room.
  • Orthopedic : During emergency days you will be busy with cast and traction. You might also have to do skeletal traction.
  • For other departments like PSM, ENT, Derma, Optha, and Casualty, the workload is comparatively less so you get a lot of free time.

Overall, through the internships, you will get confident at least in minor tasks, and gain a lot of hands-on experience.

What should be the preference order, GMCH Chandigarh, VMMC Delhi, AIIMS other than Delhi, CMC Vellore?

A
Admin Posted On : May 3rd, 2024

I chose VMMC Delhi over the other three options (GMCH Chandigarh, AIIMS (other than Delhi) & CMC Vellore) for my MBBS.

According to me, the order of preference should be:

  1. VMMC Delhi
  2. GMCH Chandigarh
  3. AIIMS (other than Delhi)
  4. CMC Vellore

My reasons for this preference order are:

  • VMMC, GMCH, and AIIMS are government colleges with minimal MBBS fees.
  • These three do not have a mandatory bond period
  • VMMC Delhi and GMCH Chandigarh are better than AIIMS (other than Delhi) due to their internal PG reservation system
  • VMMC is a better choice than GMCH because of its location. VMMC is located in Delhi because of which it offers better opportunities. Also, the hospital of VMMC is bigger and VMMC offers more internal PG reservation as compared to GMCH.

Due to these factors, I would suggest you opt for VMMC Delhi for your MBBS course.

Which college is better to join, VMMC or AIIMS Bhopal, comparing the faculty, hostel facilities, infrastructures, room facility, etc.?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : June 5th, 2023

Both VMMC and AIIMS Bhopal are well-respected institutions in India and both have strong programs in medicine. In terms of faculty, both institutions have highly qualified and experienced faculty members. However,

  • Faculty: AIIMS Bhopal is considered to have a stronger faculty with more experienced teachers.
  • Hostel:  In terms of hostel facilities, VMMC has well-maintained hostels with modern amenities, while AIlMS Bhopal has older hostels that are in need of renovation. Both institutions have comfortable rooms, but AIlMS Bhopal is considered to have better-furnished rooms.
  • Infrastructure: In terms of infrastructure, both institutions have modern and well-equipped facilities. However, AIIMS Bhopal is considered to have a more advanced infrastructure.

These points clearly hold AIIMS Bhopal higher than VMMC, but I would still suggest you go for VMMC. AIIMS Bhopal may be better in terms of hostel, faculty, and infrastructure advantages but the most important factor for choosing a college is its location. Delhi offers better opportunities in terms of salary as well as other prospects. Delhi hospitals like Safdarjung Hospital have the highest pay scale for PG residents. Being in Delhi, you can work hard and get into a better hospital or college by Delhi quota for PG.

Ultimately I feel location should be given the highest priority while choosing a college and that being said, VMMC is the best option for you. However, the best choice for you will depend on your personal preferences and goals.

What are the pros and cons of doing an MBBS from VMMC?

TD
Tezal Dahiya Posted On : September 25th, 2023

The truth is I couldn't find a single con of joining VMMC for MBBS. That being said, there are a number of pros of doing an MBBS from VMMC. A few have been listed below

  • UG: PG ratio is great. This can further be understood through the following analogy. For MD Medicine, a general category student needs less than 9000 rank via IPU Quota but for MAMC, you need 300 AIR for the same subject via DU quota.
  • The institute has some of the most educated and experienced professors, the most famous being Dr. Chintamani, a big shot in surgery.
  • VMMC is also famous for its Central Institute of Orthopedics and its amazing Sports Injury Centre
  • They recently built the new SuperSpeciality block and the new Emergency block. The infrastructure is state-of-the-art, even better than many private hospitals.
  • The crowd of students is extremely passionate and is driven by their desire to excel in the field.

You will have an amazing life here both academically and non-academically.

How is MD Medicine from AIIMS Jodhpur compared to other well-known institutes of India like VMMC Sardarjung, MAMC, KEM, and BJMC (Ahmedabad)?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : June 8th, 2023
lives in New Delhi

AIIMS Jodhpur launched its PG course in various clinical branches in 2017 and has been providing excellent training and research opportunities ever since then. The patient load is also very satisfying and enough clinical exposure is offered.

However, AIIMS Jodhpur MD Medicine is specifically not well established so you need to check before coming here.

  • Their GM department has only two assistant professors right now. The department is filled with senior residents mostly.
  • The patient load in this department is very low in comparison to other well-established colleges like MAMC, VMMC, etc.
  • AIIMS Jodhpur lacks the necessary assistance provided by the seniors

Ultimately it’s best to go for MAMC or VMMC compared to AIIMS Jodhpur if you are specifically targeting MD Medicine.
