Which one to choose: NSIT's ICE (instrumentation and control eng) OR IIIT UNA CSE?

SA
Simran Arora Posted On : April 1st, 2021
Studied CS from NSIT (2019)

Firstly, you should know that IIIT UNA is a new college and although it has the IIIT tag, it hasn't been ranked by any esteemed Ranking platforms like NIRF. Its classes are also facilitated by NIT Hamirpur's faculty and the campus and faculty are nice.

As far as NSIT is concerned, it ranks #76 on the NIRF ranking portal for engineering and has a better location in Delhi than Hamirpur, because of the facilities and professional opportunities available.

Here are some more pointers to help you understand better -

  • If your interest lies in the program rather than the institute, then go for CSE. Although first reflect on the placement scenario of IIIT UNA, whether they receive good companies or not; if the package is satisfactory, and if speedy placements are facilitated after the course is over.
  • When you take a look at NSIT, then you should know that you'd be able to build a good career as a software engineer with the ICE program, but the management will be a little difficult because of the delicate balance between coursework and developing your programming skills.
  • Most ICE alumni are now pursuing MBA or working other non-technical jobs. For non-tech, NSIT offers better opportunities.

Here's a table on the placement scenario-

What are the consequences if I join IIIT Una now.

In all honesty, it is determined by the pace of work at your institute. There is a slight chance that the majority of your degree will not be completed on your home campus, but it is highly unlikely that you will complete four years away from home.

Again, it is more dependent on the speed with which the government grants clearances to your institute.

Should I prefer IIIT Bhubaneswar, IIIT Vadodara, or IIIT Una?

KP

CSE at IIIT Vadodara (2017)

Here is a brief overview of each one of them that might help you choose the best.

IIIT Bhubaneswar: It has been recognized as an International Institute of Information Technology, where the first 50% of the seats are primarily reserved for the Odisha category, while the other 50% is decided upon the JEE Mains. The placement is comparably the same as IIIT Vadodara and in terms of infrastructure, it is largely adequate too.

IIIT Vadodara: The campus is as of now temporarily functioning at GEC Gandhinagar, Gujarat. However, it still has a very reputed technical culture surrounding students, as well as the placements, are continually hiking each year. It is proof of how it is rapidly growing. The hostels of the institute are extremely good, as opposed to most of the other IIITs.

IIIT Una: It was established after IIIT Vadodara. It is at present functioning from NIT. It, unfortunately, has poor transportation facilities.

Nonetheless, for a better idea, here is a brief highlight of each institute’s placement stats for the year 2020.

How are the placements at IIIT Una? Are they the same as NIT Hamirpur?

SB
Shibasis Bose Posted On : July 2nd, 2021
Studied at National Institute of Technology, Hamirpur

I have a friend who is an alumnus of IIIT Una and here is what he had to say about the placements.

IIIT Una started from NIT Hamirpur campus as its temporary campus and its first batch graduated in the year 2018 only. This first batch faced a lot of difficulties because even though they were treated equally with the NIT Hamirpur’s students for the four years academically, during the placements most of the companies did not allow IIIT Una students to appear for the placement process.

Even the placements were handled by NIT Hamirpur as IIIT Una did not have its own placement committee. But the companies were hesitant to recruit IIIT Una’s students. Many companies did not have IIIT Una in their list of colleges to visit as they have a strict pre-defined policy for the same. So most of the companies were out of bounds for IIIT Una students. However, there were some companies who did allow them and the students grabbed the opportunities.

Next year onwards, IIIT Una build its own placement committee and became independent from NIT Hamirpur for placements. So expectedly they are better than before.

Which is better, IT at IIIT Una or CS at KNIT Sultanpur?

PV
Pranav Verma Posted On : July 3rd, 2021
MCA from Kamla Nehru Institute Of Technology (2019)

IT at IIIT Una is better than CS at KNIT Sultanpur. The reasons for the same are given below.

  • Infrastructure - IIIT Una does not have its own campus yet. Currently, it is functioning from NIT Hamirpur campus. Thus IIIT Una students enjoy the same great facilities and the lush green campus as NIT Hamirpur students. KNIT Sultanpur has average to bad infrastructure.
  • Locality - Again the temporary campus at NIT Hamirpur is much better than Sultanpur.
  • Education - In this regard, both may be equal but owing to better facilities being provided by NIT Hamirpur, IIIT Una will be considered better. The fee is almost the same in both the colleges.

It is advisable to talk to some of the current as well as recent alumni of both the institutes to know the exact state of the colleges and their placement records. IIIT Una is still very new and evolving. KNIT is also a good option but looking at other things and the future growth potential IIIT Una should be preferred.

Which is better, IIIT Una, IIIT Vadodara or IIIT Kurnool?

TS
Tanmay Singh Posted On : July 15th, 2021
B.Tech from Indian Institute of Information Technology, Vadodara (2022)

All three IIITs are established by MHRD and offer an excellent education to students.

  • IIIT Kurnool is one of the five fully funded IIIT by MHRD. So, IIIT Kurnool charges a little less for courses as compared to IIIT Vadodara and IIIT Una. The faculty base at IIIT Kurnool is not that great.
  • IIIT Kurnool and IIIT Una do not have a permanent campus. Their temporary campus is IIIT Kancheepuram and NIT Hamirpur, respectively. On the other hand, IIIT Vadodara has a permanent campus.

Fee and Placement details of the institutes are as follows.

Criteria IIIT Vadodara IIIT Kurnool IIIT Una
Fee INR 7.83 Lakhs INR 5.24 Lakhs INR 7.91 Lakhs
Average CTC INR 6.59 LPA INR 4.5 LPA INR 4.5 LPA
Highest CTC INR 30 LPA INR 4.5 LPA INR 13.5 LPA

Out of all the above, IIT Vadodara offers the best returns on investment (ROI). Also, the placement percentage of the institute is 100%. The companies that visit the campus are Coviam, ICICI Bank, Innovaccer, Amazon, Matlab, Paytm, Coding Ninjas, TCS, Capillary Technologies, and more.

In conclusion, IIIT Vadodara offers a lot of opportunities to learn and grow with your field choice. Among the three options, IIIT Vadodara will be the best choice.

Which should I take for engineering - physics at DTU or electronics and communication at IIIT Una?

TD
Tarun Kumar Dhillon Posted On : July 13th, 2021
Studied at Amity University Noida (2019)

Both of the colleges have their own specialties. It depends on your purpose for doing any of the mentioned courses. One of my friends graduated from DTU and he mentioned a few points about the same which may be helpful for you-

  • If your focus is on taking a decent job after graduation or earning money, opt for other options than physics.
  • But if you have your interest in the field of research in physics or you want to do your higher studies in the field of physics, then go for Engineering in Physics.
  • My friend from the physics branch in DTU straight away mentioned that the physics department in DTU doesn’t have decent placement opportunities, be it the on-campus placement or off-campus placement.
  • ECE being a practical-oriented subject has a lot of demand in the industry.
  • Also after graduating with ECE, you can sit for placements of both core companies and IT firms. Thus there will be a lot of job opportunities.
  • Half of the students who have enrolled themselves on the physics branch were misled and the other half was too sure and passionate about this branch.
  • Whereas, ECE at IIIT UNA can provide you with a good job right after you graduate.
Categories Engineering Physics at DTU ECE at IIIT Una
Course Fee 7.81 lakh 8.16 lakh
Highest CTC 15-16 LPA 16 LPA
Average CTC 8-9 LPA 8 LPA
Recruiting Companies Optum, Tech Mahindra, TCS, IBM, etc. Google, Microsoft, Accenture, Capgemini, etc.

Hence, it is up to you what is your purpose behind taking a course, if it’s research, go for engineering physics and if it’s about taking a decent job in the field of Electronics, then go for IIIT Una.
