In my opinion, while you will definitely feel a little cultural change, you should do just fine. There are probably quite a few reasons you may be asking this question. So, I hope this helps:
You will definitely make a family here at IIIT. Even if you are from Delhi, everyone eats and celebrates together here. You will not regret your decision and have a great time.
You will definitely have a great time in Sri City and probably not feel like going back home after the amazing four years you will spend here. One of my friends has experienced the amazing campus life. He got really attached to this place. You will miss your friends and having fun at 3 am in the morning.
The IFMR canteen is one place where you will eat every possible thing on the menu and not attend classes. You will also end up taking a number of spontaneous trips. Even the small nitty-gritty like not being able to stay awake during class, running around for attendance will become so ingrained in your daily life that you will end up missing them. The teachers here are more like friends instead of professors. You will also miss the happiness of getting an unexpected holiday.
Your hostel room is going to be a place of great memories. It will witness breakups, patch-ups, and you at your best and worse. Sri City and the college will become your second home.
The early morning sunrises, evening strolls around the campus as well as the petrichor of the rain right after the blistering summer in May are things you will come to appreciate. While you might enter as a frightened fresher, you will be leaving as an experienced graduate. You will learn to become independent and will have gone through some of life’s toughest lessons.
In other words, you will come to love this place so much, you will definitely have tears in your eyes as you leave from here on your last day. Some of your best days will be from IIIT Sri City.
IIIT Guwahati is better than IIIT Sri City. It has an excellent placement record. As per the placement statistics of recent years, the average and highest CTC offered in campus placement are INR 11.59 LPA and INR 32 LPA, respectively. Companies such as Tata Consultancy Services, UpGrad, Toppr Technologies, Tekion, Wipro, etc. are the major recruiters that take part in IIIT Guwahati placements.
The institute has a locational advantage as well. The campus is only 4 km away from Guwahati airport.
If you're deciding between IIIT Sri City and Sastra University, here are some reasons why you should consider IIIT Sri City for a better career:
Placement:
Research:
In conclusion, IIIT Sri City provides a great platform for students who want to excel in both academics and research. With its excellent placement record and focus on research, it can be a better choice for those who want to have a successful career ahead.
IIIT Sri City is a promising institute. The points that make it different are as follows.
Drawbacks:
Average Package |
10 LPA |
Highest Package |
22 LPA |
To conclude, the academics are good. But the institute will do so much better if it could overcome these drawbacks.
IIITDM Kancheepuram is an institute of national importance and it has an advantage over the other two institutes as both the institutes are IIITGs in PPP Mode. The bill to declare PPP mode as institutes of national importance is still pending in parliament.
Here are a few pieces of information about the CSE/IT in the campuses mentioned in the question.
IIIT Guwahati:
The institute started in the year 2013 and has a strong CS department with a good number of experienced faculties.
IIIT Sri City:
Both the colleges have their advantages and disadvantages. You have to analyze which is better for you to pursue B.Tech in CSE/IT as per your parameters. Good luck.
Among the above two institutes, IIIT Pune is the definite choice, considering a number of factors including IT industry exposure, internal competition, and overall development in the institutes. I know a few people from both institutes, so I can give you an idea about them.
Location:(Winning Institution - IIIT Pune)
Student Intake:
IIIT Pune takes in a total of 120 students per year, 60 in CSE, and 60 in ECE. On the other hand, IIIT Sri City takes in 270 students per year, 200 students in CSE, and 70 in ECE. Therefore, it is evident that a lesser number of students will get better attention from professors, less internal competition, more opportunities, and a focused learning experience.
Mentor Institute:
IIIT Pune’s mentor institute (College of Engineering, Pune) is located in Pune itself, whereas IIIT Sri City’s mentor institute is IIIT Hyderabad, 608 km away from it. So it is easier for IIIT Pune students to attend mentor institute events, lectures, and facilities.
Extra-curricular:
Students from IIIT Pune have excelled in several sports events too, like IIT BHU’s Spardha. There are several Coding, Robotics, and technical events in which IIIT Pune students excel.
Future Development:
Considering all of the above factors, IIIT Pune is a definitely better choice, providing several opportunities to students in the industry and research fields.
The hostel life at IIIT Sri City is very fun and interesting in its own way. Though the city has become a business hub with more than 185 companies in the vicinity, the campus of IIIT Sri City is located in an almost isolated area.
There are three boys hostels and one girls hostel in the campus. Here are some of the perks you would enjoy while staying at the hostel –
Of course there are some for whom a hostel may seem more like a jail, not getting out of their rooms. But these are few and you should definitely not want yourself to be among them. Just remember that these years will not come back to you and your hostel life will be significantly more enjoyable.
NIT Srinagar will be a superior choice because it carries a reputation and a name that will stick with you forever. Comparing the previous placement stats, ranking, and infrastructural facilities makes NIT Srinagar a better option than IIIT Srinagar.
These two colleges have been designated as institutions of national significance. While the other is in the north of India, one is in the south. But NIT Srinagar is the best choice for its strong reputation, experienced faculty, and beautiful campus make it an ideal place for learning.
There are few disadvantages of opting for IIIT Sri City. Their secluded location, lack of campus, weak management committee are to name a few. Let us consider each of them to assess if IIIT Sri City is worth opting for or not.
Isolated location:
On paper, they do mention the location being an industrial city but it's of no benefit for students.
Poor management:
The management committee is one of the biggest drawbacks of IIIT Sri City. Many lab equipment which has been approved by the committee and being funded on paper have never made it into labs. Facilities which they promised during admissions are barely met.
Campus:
Till 2018, there was no permanent campus and even after constructing one, all the necessities are barely met.
Lack of student participation:
Being in a fairly new college, it's the responsibility of students of the first few batches to participate actively in each and every event, represent the college at higher levels, and give some tough competition in placements. But again due to poor management, students are not well informed about anything which has led to developing disinterest among students.
Attendance:
It is compulsory to have 85% attendance or else you will lose your grades. The other 15% coverup barely 6-8 classes. It is okay to have some restrictions on attendance but 85% is a bit too much. Even those classes in which faculties are absent will be counted in the total number of classes.
Apart from these, there are few complaints about faculties, internet facilities, cafeteria and many more which are manageable. So, these are few drawbacks of IIIT Sri City which you must consider before joining.
