Is it worth taking admission in IIIT Sri city for North India students?

SA

In my opinion, while you will definitely feel a little cultural change, you should do just fine. There are probably quite a few reasons you may be asking this question. So, I hope this helps:

  • Cultural differences: There is quite a cultural change that you will experience, but that will just make your life more interesting. A number of festivals are celebrated here including Diwali, Pongal and Holi. It’s quite a multicultural atmosphere. There are quite a few regional language songs played during the fests as well.
  • Language: As far as the college premises is concerned, everyone speaks English. Other than this, you might encounter the use of regional languages at hostels where you might be talking to your friends. Language is definitely not a barrier as everyone is quite fluent in Hindi and if you are interested, you can definitely learn Telugu as well.
  • Food: You will definitely not miss North Indian food here as a majority of the menu at the mess is based on this palate. You will find South Indian food like Sambhar, Dosa, and Idli as well.
  • North Indian students: Due to regional proximity, of course, the number of south Indian students will overpower the number of those from the North. However, you will definitely gel right in after a few months of settling in at the university and campus.
  • Life around the college premises: From my knowledge, as far as Sri City is concerned, you will find people from all over the country here. In fact, you will even find a lot of foreigners as well. Moreover, you will definitely end up touring a lot of places in south India – Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu in your semester breaks.

You will definitely make a family here at IIIT. Even if you are from Delhi, everyone eats and celebrates together here. You will not regret your decision and have a great time.

How is life at IIIT Sri City, apart from academics? How are its campus and hostel life?

SP

You will definitely have a great time in Sri City and probably not feel like going back home after the amazing four years you will spend here. One of my friends has experienced the amazing campus life. He got really attached to this place. You will miss your friends and having fun at 3 am in the morning.

The IFMR canteen is one place where you will eat every possible thing on the menu and not attend classes. You will also end up taking a number of spontaneous trips. Even the small nitty-gritty like not being able to stay awake during class, running around for attendance will become so ingrained in your daily life that you will end up missing them. The teachers here are more like friends instead of professors. You will also miss the happiness of getting an unexpected holiday.

Your hostel room is going to be a place of great memories. It will witness breakups, patch-ups, and you at your best and worse. Sri City and the college will become your second home.

The early morning sunrises, evening strolls around the campus as well as the petrichor of the rain right after the blistering summer in May are things you will come to appreciate. While you might enter as a frightened fresher, you will be leaving as an experienced graduate. You will learn to become independent and will have gone through some of life’s toughest lessons.

In other words, you will come to love this place so much, you will definitely have tears in your eyes as you leave from here on your last day. Some of your best days will be from IIIT Sri City.

What should I choose between IIIT Sri City and Sastra University?

AR
Anubhav Reddy Posted On : April 25th, 2023
B.Tech Computer Science Engineering, Indian Institute of Information Technology, Sri City (2020)

If you're deciding between IIIT Sri City and Sastra University, here are some reasons why you should consider IIIT Sri City for a better career:

Placement:

  • IIIT Sri City has a good track record for placements. The very first batch itself saw an average package of 7.5 LPA (with almost everyone participating getting an offer), which is comparable to mid-level NITs.
  • With each passing year, the placement opportunities are expected to get better as the quality of students improves.
  • IIIT Sri City's curriculum is well-structured and ensures a great learning experience for students. Additionally, mentorship by IIITH helps students in their career.

Research:

  • IIIT Sri City is a great place to work on innovative ideas and showcase them to the world.
  • Almost everyone in IIIT Sri City publishes one research paper during their Btech program.
  • Good students even go on to publish 6-7 international research papers, providing them with an opportunity to showcase their work to a global audience.

In conclusion, IIIT Sri City provides a great platform for students who want to excel in both academics and research. With its excellent placement record and focus on research, it can be a better choice for those who want to have a successful career ahead.

Is IIIT Sri City really as promising as they say?

AK
Apoorv Karthik Posted On : March 18th, 2021
Studied Computer Science Engineering at Indian Institute of Information Technology, Sri City (2020)

IIIT Sri City is a promising institute. The points that make it different are as follows.

  • Senior-Junior interactions are very engaging. Seniors guide and aid their juniors in every possible way.
  • Coding culture is emerging in the institute. There is also a newly set-up programming club for organizing creative events and boost-up the spirit of students.
  • Research work is very rigorous in IIIT Sri City. Students in the past have tremendous contributions in the research field like NLP, AI, etc. Even a few have published in international conferences.
  • IIITS has a better and rigorous curriculum than other institutions of India. Lessons imparted to students in the initial trimesters give the students an edge over others.
  • Students here are very enthusiastic. They work hard and are motivated enough for success.
  • Students are allowed to drop a semester for the internship, but they cannot skip it.
  • If students are aware of their interests, they can take-up Hons and do research in a field, and an obscure student can take up the BTP program. Students get a chance to hold two degrees, one is B. Tech, and the other is a Hons degree.

Drawbacks:

  • Improper infrastructure as most of it is under construction. No proper facilities are available.
  • The curriculum of college is decent, but the tuition fee is high. The faculty has no experience.
  • No proper internet facility is the saddest part. The network is improper in the campus and the hostels.
  • Mess food has no taste. The quality is poor. The city is also far-away.
  • Competition based on grades among students.
  • No proper sports facilities or extra-curricular activities.
  • The location is such that it is isolated from the city. It is amid the village Tada, 80 km from Chennai.
  • 85% attendance is compulsory.
  • Placements are not decent. The main reason is the location. There are no good companies visiting the campus. The figures are as follows.

Average Package

10 LPA

Highest Package

22 LPA

To conclude, the academics are good. But the institute will do so much better if it could overcome these drawbacks.

Which is preferable for CS, CSE, and IT, IIITDM-Kancheepuram, IIIT Sri City, or IIIT Guwahati?

RD
Rakesh Das Posted On : March 30th, 2021
Indian Institute of Information Technology, Guwahati

IIITDM Kancheepuram is an institute of national importance and it has an advantage over the other two institutes as both the institutes are IIITGs in PPP Mode. The bill to declare PPP mode as institutes of national importance is still pending in parliament.

Here are a few pieces of information about the CSE/IT in the campuses mentioned in the question.

IIIT Guwahati:

The institute started in the year 2013 and has a strong CS department with a good number of experienced faculties.

  • Prof Gautam Barua who is the director of the CS department at IIIT Guwahati was also the director of IIT Guwahati from 2003-13. With his immense experience, he aims to build the department strong.
  • Coming on to the curriculum of CSE/IT, it is well designed to suit the growing need of the industry. The intent here is to complete all the core subjects in the first 6 semesters so that students can choose the type of industry they want to get into. Like in the 4th semester, there is a subject called Computer Network which is generally a subject of 5/6th semester in other institutes.
  • In the CS department, IIIT Guwahati has come up with the Ph.D. program as well.
  • There are many advantages to join IIIT Guwahati but only a single disadvantage is there i.e. Location. But if you love to travel and nature, Guwahati is a place for you.

IIIT Sri City:

  • The number of faculties at IIIT Sri City is nearly half as compared to IIIT Guwahati.
  • They also have MS and Ph.D. programs which indicates that they are also very active with regard to research.
  • They are being mentored by Prof. UB Desai who is also the director of IIT Hyderabad and a pioneer in System and Network Research in India.

Both the colleges have their advantages and disadvantages. You have to analyze which is better for you to pursue B.Tech in CSE/IT as per your parameters. Good luck.

Which is better, IIIT Pune or IIIT Sri City?

SK
Saloni Kaushik Posted On : March 19th, 2021
B.Tech Computer Science, Indian Institute of Information Technology, Pune (2021)

Among the above two institutes, IIIT Pune is the definite choice, considering a number of factors including IT industry exposure, internal competition, and overall development in the institutes. I know a few people from both institutes, so I can give you an idea about them.

Location:(Winning Institution - IIIT Pune)

  • Presently, Pune is considered to be a large IT hub, with offices of several companies from different sectors too. In 2018, Pune was listed as the second most paying city for software engineering jobs in India, after Bangalore.
  • For research-minded students, there are several institutes in Pune including the National Chemical Laboratory, and the Indian Institute of Science, Education, and Research (IISER, Pune). This will give you a bundle of opportunities.
  • Pune is a metropolitan city in itself, whereas Sri City is 74 km away from the closest metropolitan city, Chennai.

Student Intake:

IIIT Pune takes in a total of 120 students per year, 60 in CSE, and 60 in ECE. On the other hand, IIIT Sri City takes in 270 students per year, 200 students in CSE, and 70 in ECE. Therefore, it is evident that a lesser number of students will get better attention from professors, less internal competition, more opportunities, and a focused learning experience.

Mentor Institute:

IIIT Pune’s mentor institute (College of Engineering, Pune) is located in Pune itself, whereas IIIT Sri City’s mentor institute is IIIT Hyderabad, 608 km away from it. So it is easier for IIIT Pune students to attend mentor institute events, lectures, and facilities.

Extra-curricular:

Students from IIIT Pune have excelled in several sports events too, like IIT BHU’s Spardha. There are several Coding, Robotics, and technical events in which IIIT Pune students excel.

Future Development:

  • The growth pace of IIIT Pune is very fast. With a number of hardworking students and dedicated professors, IIIT Pune will soon reach a good height and will be considered a leading institute.
  • The 100-acre campus construction of IIIT Pune will get completed, which is being set up in between the city’s core industrial zone. After IIIT Pune receives its own director, the growth rate is bound to increase and so is the development of the institute.

Considering all of the above factors, IIIT Pune is a definitely better choice, providing several opportunities to students in the industry and research fields.

How is the hostel life at IIIT Sri City?

AP
Arun Pal Posted On : March 23rd, 2021
B.Tech from Indian Institute of Information Technology, Sri City (2021)

The hostel life at IIIT Sri City is very fun and interesting in its own way. Though the city has become a business hub with more than 185 companies in the vicinity, the campus of IIIT Sri City is located in an almost isolated area.

There are three boys hostels and one girls hostel in the campus. Here are some of the perks you would enjoy while staying at the hostel –

  • The campus is soothing, especially the evening walks. Being close to the beautiful Pulicat Lake, the sea breezes are simply awesome. A stroll through the night is simply refreshing.
  • Playing your favorite sports at night is fun as well. Some students even enjoy playing basketball at 2 AM in the night.
  • The best thing about hostel life are its group discussions. You will spend countless sleepless nights among your friends just chatting in the small rooms.
  • Whenever you get bored of the regular mess food, you have many small and big restaurants to satisfy your appetite. Swati restaurant, Annapurna, Sunny, New City, Madras Café are some of the best places to hang out with your friends.
  • And finally the random fun at hostels. You never know from where and when this might pop up, but this is the best thing about living at a hostel. The four years you will stay at your hostel, you will make more friends and memories than up until your life.

Of course there are some for whom a hostel may seem more like a jail, not getting out of their rooms. But these are few and you should definitely not want yourself to be among them. Just remember that these years will not come back to you and your hostel life will be significantly more enjoyable.

Which is preferable: IIIT Sri City, Chittoor or CS/IT in NIT, Srinagar?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : September 19th, 2023
lives in New Delhi

NIT Srinagar will be a superior choice because it carries a reputation and a name that will stick with you forever. Comparing the previous placement stats, ranking, and infrastructural facilities makes NIT Srinagar a better option than IIIT Srinagar.

  • Academic Reputation: NIT Srinagar is a well-known and established university in India, known for its demanding engineering programs and academic quality. It was placed 82 among all of India's top engineering colleges in the NIRF report 2023.
  • Faculty Expertise: Faculty members at NITs are frequently well-educated and have years of expertise in their specialties. 185 qualified teachers make up the NIT Srinagar faculty. Around 2500 students are enrolled, which results in a favorable student-teacher ratio.
  • Infrastructure & Facilities: Research facilities, libraries, and laboratories are often well-stocked at NITs.
  • Placement stats: In 2023 the highest package offered in placements was INR 36.5 LPA. The median package stood at INR 10.48 LPA.
  • Alumni Network: Strong alumni networks are common at NITs, which can be helpful for networking, internships, and job placements. There are numerous noteworthy alumni of this group, including Mansoor Ali Khan, a member of the 13th Lok Sabha, Subhash Kak, a former head of the computer science department at Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, and many others.

These two colleges have been designated as institutions of national significance. While the other is in the north of India, one is in the south. But NIT Srinagar is the best choice for its strong reputation, experienced faculty, and beautiful campus make it an ideal place for learning.

What are the disadvantages of joining IIIT Sri city?

SS
Sanjukta Sarkar Posted On : March 23rd, 2021
B.Tech Computer Science and Engineering, Indian institute of information technology, Sri City (2020)

There are few disadvantages of opting for IIIT Sri City. Their secluded location, lack of campus, weak management committee are to name a few. Let us consider each of them to assess if IIIT Sri City is worth opting for or not.

Isolated location:

On paper, they do mention the location being an industrial city but it's of no benefit for students.

  • There are no good spots to hang out with friends, party, or enjoy. The closest city is Chennai which is 70Kms away.
  • Transportation facilities are also not up to the expectations.

Poor management:

The management committee is one of the biggest drawbacks of IIIT Sri City. Many lab equipment which has been approved by the committee and being funded on paper have never made it into labs. Facilities which they promised during admissions are barely met.

Campus:

Till 2018, there was no permanent campus and even after constructing one, all the necessities are barely met.

Lack of student participation:

Being in a fairly new college, it's the responsibility of students of the first few batches to participate actively in each and every event, represent the college at higher levels, and give some tough competition in placements. But again due to poor management, students are not well informed about anything which has led to developing disinterest among students.

Attendance:

It is compulsory to have 85% attendance or else you will lose your grades. The other 15% coverup barely 6-8 classes. It is okay to have some restrictions on attendance but 85% is a bit too much. Even those classes in which faculties are absent will be counted in the total number of classes.

Apart from these, there are few complaints about faculties, internet facilities, cafeteria and many more which are manageable. So, these are few drawbacks of IIIT Sri City which you must consider before joining.
