What is the dress code for students of CGC Landran?

TR
Tania Roy Posted On : February 16th, 2021
B.Tech from Chandigarh Engineering College (2019)

Yes, there is a dress code for every Tuesday and Thursday for students of CGC Landran.

The dress code is as listed below:

  • White Shirt
  • Grey Pant
  • Official tie as given by the college
  • Formal shoes.

Though there is a provision of a dress code, the institute is not very strict about it. There is no policy of fining the students for the violation of the dress code. There is also an optional Royal Blue CGC coat (blazer) for engineering and a Black CGC coat for management students.

Regardless of the dress code, students with casual dresses are found on campus at most. Most students wear the college shirt with jeans (Black/Blue/Gray). Even if your HOD catches you not wearing the uniform on Tuesday or Thursday, they are not likely to say anything. But the Jhanjeri campus is quite strict about the dress code. They also check students' IDs at the entrance.

What is the daily routine at CGC Landran?

PT
Prachi Thakur Posted On : May 30th, 2021
B.Tech Computer Science Engineering, Chandigarh Engineering College (2019)

A few of my friends are CGC Landran alumni and their rutin at the institute was somewhat like the following.

  • Students lined in a queue near washrooms early in the morning at 06:30-07:00 AM.
  • Reaching mess for breakfast.
  • Getting ready. Tuesdays and Thursdays are meant for uniform/casual.
  • 4 lectures to be attended from 09:15-12:05 PM (Group 1)
  • 5 lectures to be attended from 09:15-12:55 PM (Group 2)
  • Group 1 lunch break is from 12:05-12:55 PM. While group 2 lunch break is from 12:55-01:45 PM
  • Prolonged classes till 04:30 PM after lunchtime.
  • 04:30-05:00 PM is snack time.
  • Head back to your room and study or play video games like- mini militia or counter strike.
  • 07:30-09:00 PM is dinner time.
  • You can wander around the campus, but make sure you report before 10 PM.

Next morning, you have the same routine which continues till Friday. College is off on Saturdays and Sundays. This routine that I have mentioned goes on for the next 3 years. Till then, you'd be categorized as seniors and prone to mass-bunks. Plus when you're in your 4th year of college, your timings would just be from 09:30 to 02:00 PM.

Once a year the institute celebrates Parivartan fest, sports day, Baishaki festival, etc. Each branch also has its separate fests in which students from different branches can take part. All in all life at CGC Landran will be quite fun.

Which college is better for a BTech ECE CGC: Landran or Chandigarh University?

AS
Aditi Sharma Posted On : March 22nd, 2023
Studied Chandigarh University (2018)

When it comes to selecting a college, it's important to consider various factors such as the curriculum, faculty, infrastructure, location, and placement opportunities. If you are considering CGC and CU Gharuan, you may want to take note of the following information.

CGC is affiliated with Punjab Technical University (PTU), whereas CU Gharuan is a university in itself. While being affiliated with PTU has its advantages, such as following a standardized curriculum and receiving recognition from the university, it's important to note that not all colleges under PTU may be of the same standard.

On the other hand, CU Gharuan is a recognized university that offers a range of courses across different fields. The university has its own faculty, infrastructure, and curriculum that is designed to provide students with a comprehensive learning experience.

When it comes to placements, both CGC and CU Gharuan have a dedicated placement cell that assists students in finding job opportunities. However, it's important to note that placement outcomes are not solely dependent on the college, but also on various other factors such as the student's skills, interests, and abilities, and the industry requirements.

While some colleges under PTU may not have a good reputation, it's not fair to generalize and say that all colleges under PTU are of no use. Similarly, while CU Gharuan may be a good option for some students, it may not be the best option for everyone. It's important to thoroughly research and consider all the factors before making a decision.

What things are required while going to a hostel at CGC Landran?

JM
Junaid Murshid Posted On : February 16th, 2021
B.Tech. Computer Science Engineering, Chandigarh Engineering College (2019)

Once you come to the hostel, you must surround yourself with quality people and concentrate more on learning. You will get a huge amount of opportunities in CGC. You must not forget to attend all the TPP classes. This becomes the main reason why some students are not able to get placements. If you do not attend the classes, you will get debarred from TPP and this will also lower your chances to sit into the placements.

Here are some information about the hostel:

Boys’ Hostel Annual Fees

  • 2 seater- Rs. 1,00,000
  • 3 seater- Rs. 90,000-95,000
  • 4 seater- Rs. 85,000

Girls’ Hostel Annual Fees

  • 2 seater- Rs. 1,00,000
  • 2 seater with attached washroom- Rs. 1,20,000
  • 4 seater- 85,000

Contract renewal

Annually

Amenities

Electricity, wi-fi, security, food, water supply

If you are moving into the Hostel for the first time, then it is not going to be easy. You will have to take care of some things and here is a list of them -

  1. Money Cards: You need to keep your Debit Cards/ Credit Cards handy and safe. Make use of net banking if possible. You will probably order a lot of things online once you move to the hostel.
  2. Documents/Certificates: You need to keep all of your necessary certificates/ documents in PDF format.
  3. 1 Laptop and 1 Pen-drive.
  4. 2 bed-sheets.
  5. Personal Grooming Products.
  6. Lock for your cupboard.
  7. 1 plate, 1 Bowl & 1 Glass.
  8. Sports Item (Football, Badminton Racket, Cricket Bat etc.).
  9. Books: if you are into reading then you must bring good self help books.

There are still some small things that you will need to purchase so make sure you have at least 3,000-4,000 in your ATM card. If you are lucky and are able to get good roommates then you don’t have to worry about anything.

What are the drawbacks of studying in CGC landran?

AD
Abhishek Dasgupta Posted On : May 31st, 2021
BTech (CSE) Computer Science, Chandigarh Engineering College (2020)

I have a few friends at CGC Landran, and here are some things that they complain about.

  • The faculty of this college is very poor and the students have to rely on themselves for most of their studies.
  • There are no facilities for sports which is a major issue, as sports is very important along with academics and it needs to be encouraged and played more often.
  • The placements are also very poor, especially in the Mechanical branch which has no placements in core companies. Although CS/IT branch has good placements.
  • The library of CGC Landran is not very big and some important books like the spectrum of mathematics are available in limited numbers which makes it very difficult for every student to get it.
  • The hostel food is not very good but the hostel charges are very expensive.

So, these are some of the drawbacks of CGC Landran which the students are facing every year, and these conditions are needed to be resolved in order to improve.

Is the CGC Landran a good college to do a B.Tech in CSE?

AR
Arun Raina Posted On : February 16th, 2021
B.Tech Mechanical Engineering, Chandigarh Engineering College (2017)

CGC Landran is an average college for CSE but it is better than any other colleges in the North. The good thing about CSE is that you don’t need a reputed college to learn about CSE. You can learn the required skills with a laptop. If you have the required skill set, you also do not have to worry about placements.

The table below has a brief overview of the CSE program at CGC Landran.

Average CTC

4-4.5 LPA

Course Fee

3.62 lakhs

Discussed below are a few of the factors that you should know about CGC Landran.

Placements: CGC Landran has a pretty decent placement record and it is improving every year. Top companies like Google and Microsoft visit the campus for recruitments. After pursuing B.Tech in CSE, you will have a definite chance to get placed in one of the IT companies.

TPP Classes: The newly launched training and placement programs help the students to become industry-ready. Though you will be charged an extra amount of Rs. 4500 but these skills like programming, aptitude, and soft skills will help you in final placements.

Fee: In comparison to other colleges, the fee of CGC Landran is much less. Thus, it really doesn’t hurt your pocket much to study in this college.

Attendance:

  • The 75% attendance criteria is criticized among the students a lot but if you really want to learn and grow, you must attend the class. The college follows 75% attendance criteria mandatory.
  • The attendance is calculated every fortnight. And if you have less than 75% attendance in the first fortnight then you can maintain an equivalent balance in the next fortnight.

Practicals:

  • CGC only prepares students for the PTU examination. In the class, only the PTU syllabus is covered. Teachers do not have good knowledge of projects.
  • If you want to learn about projects, you have to join various project clubs on campus.

So, overall the college helps its students a lot. Every college has some advantages and disadvantages and so does this college. But at the same time, you will get the best out of this college if you study hard.
