KIIT has a much larger presence in the field of education as compared to the Heritage Institute of Technology.
In terms of infrastructure and exposure, KIIT is a better choice. The labs at KIIT are quite impressive. Even in terms of brand value and placements, KIIT is in a better position than Heritage. There are various societies at KIIT.
KIIT also does not see any political interference, no unions exist. This is in stark difference to most colleges in West Bengal.

I feel I am the right person to answer this as my brother and a friend are in VIT and KIIT respectively. From what I heard from them, I derived the following conclusions
My friend at VIT also experienced a similar situation as both are private colleges striving to attract students.

KIIT |

8 out of 200 NIRF |
16 out of 200 NIRF |

If ever you are left with these two choices, I suggest you go for VIT as it has better placements and ranking.
Your preference order should be SRM>Manipal>KIIT. However, you should choose one of these institutes according to your preference and requirements. SRM and Manipal are quite expensive. But these institute offers an enviable campus experience.
On an overall scale, SRM main campus will be the best choice. SRM University placements 2021 had the highest CTC of INR 35 LPA.
Yes, your money will be refunded even after you attended the counseling and took a seat at KIIT. They will cut some amount in the name of normal procedure/registration fee, and refund the rest to you. You’ll receive back at least 50k-55k.
For someone who did not attend the counseling, their rank in the entrance is of no use.
It is a very subjective question and the choice is ultimately yours to make. I would, though, give you some insight on KIIT.
The faculty at KIIT is very helpful. The teachers guide us whenever we need help. There is a strict no-ragging policy on campus and the seniors are amazing. We engage in a lot of extra-curricular activities besides study. KIIT Fest is really good and everyone looks forward to it.
Both KIIT and SRM have great faculty and placement records. Both institutions offer good opportunities. You should choose according to your personal preferences. For making an informed decision, I would recommend you talk to the students from both institutions and also do some basic research at your end.
KIIT doesn’t cancel anyone’s candidature, as per my experience. It is a hard fact that no engineering college (except for tier 1 colleges) rejects the candidature of students based on their past academic performance. The practice of donation is followed in many government engineering colleges too.
KIIT University won’t reject your candidature. But you might not get the branch you are hoping for.
Deloitte is the dream company of many engineering aspirants and when my brother in KIIT received the notice from Deloitte that it will be conducting a placement drive, he was elated. The students were shortlisted under 3 rounds each of which evaluates the candidates' skills thoroughly. Here is the detailed shortlisting process.
Round 1(Written round)
Round 2(Case study/ Presentation round)
Round 3(HR/Technical interview)
Once you have cleared the 3rd round, you have made it to your dream college!
No, it is not compulsory to stay in the KIIT hostels. You can stay at some place else too. The mess food of the electronics hostel is not good. This is why some of my batchmates have rented apartments for themselves. They can cook, and they have an easy mode of transport like scooty/bike. Moreover, renting is not an expensive option over here. It is affordable.
Yes several companies coming to KIIT offer decent internship opportunities in their third year. However, these companies have rigid criteria and screening processes.
As for the PPO, it completely depends on how well you have performed during your internship and is the quality of work you delivered was at par with the needs of the company. Very few companies offer PPOs beforehand.
Companies like Standard Chartered, HSBC, MuSigma, L&T Infotech, and Mass Recruiters like Accenture, Capgemini, Wipro, etc. offer full-time job opportunities.
It’s important to note that every recruiter has its own unique criteria for selection. For instance, Amazon conducts a test and interview but Dell selects the students on the basis of CGPA. A good placement preparation will take you a long way as the opportunities offered here are in abundance. Try to maintain a good CGPA and if you are in CS/IT, work on your coding skills. Don’t forget to give time to extracurricular activities also.
So it’s better to track the companies visiting around the summer break!
