If I have missed to receive my VTU degree certificate on post, what should I do?

SR

You need to first contact your post office. They keep any article or letter for a few days before returning it back. If they returned it then there are two options.

  • Pay a DD of Rs. 200 (the amount may vary) in the name of ‘Finance Officer VTU Belgaum’. Mention your USN, name, and contact info on the back of the DD.
  • Keep a xerox copy for your reference. Write a letter stating the issue and request to resent it.
  • Speed post it and the original DD to ‘The Registrar (Evaluation), VTU Belgaum, 59001’. One of my friends got his certificate within 10 days after posting the latter.
  • You can get it within a day if you travel to VTU Belgaum ID proof and fill up the application form or letter.

These are the ways you can get your certificate.

What is the difference between VTU and autonomous?

PP

BE Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering & Mathematics,Visvesvaraya Technological University (2017)

Having read some reviews online, I can say that there is not much difference in the colleges but the approaches to studies or academics, placements, etc. vary to a great extent.

  • The syllabus in autonomous is designed in a way that keeps students in the centre and the methods get revised once every two years.
  • But in VTU, it gets revised only once every 5 years. It is not student-centered but exam-centered.
  • From an exam perspective, there are differences also. Autonomously, the question paper is set by the professor or an expert and is assessed internally too.
  • But in VTU, the paper is set by a field expert and the evaluation takes place by exchanging mark sheets regionally.
  • Sometimes, it is easy for autonomous students to score because the questions are set by their own professor and it is not the case with VTU students.

Now, when coming to the certification level, your degree certificate will have the name of your autonomous college that comes under VTU as it will be issued by VTU. But the college will not be mentioned if your degree is from VTU.

You need to be aware of the differences between the two in the aspects like faculty, facilities, and placements. In the end, these 3 are the most important things that depict the status of an institute.

Yes, you can apply for VTU transcripts by paying online.

  • You need to go to the college website, download, and fill the form. The form can also be filled in by hand. The amount of the first copy has increased to 500 and the subsequent copies cost 300 each.
  • You need to have self-attested copies of mark sheets of all semesters.
  • Payments can be made via card/ net banking and PayUMoney. You will have to pay a convenience fee of around rupees 20 to 30, based on your mode of payment.
  • You need to put a valid email address for receiving the invoice of the payment.
  • The payment details should be filled with precision.
  • Get a good envelope for sending the payment invoice and filled form. It is better to send the form and the payment by speed post to the said address on the website.
  • VTU will send the transcripts to your address within 25 to 30 days.
  • They will be sending a photocopy of the transcripts and the required number of transcripts in a separate envelop with a seal.

Fees once paid are never refunded so it is very important to check it properly before submitting.

  • 70-100% - First Class with Distinction (FCD)
  • 60-69% - First Class (FC)

What happens when one gets a year back at VTU? Do I have to rewrite all the exams from that year again?

IC
Ipsita Chaterjee Posted On : October 21st, 2021
B.E. Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Visvesvaraya Technological University

I have a few friends who graduated from VTU and here are their insights about this.

  • As per VTU rules, any year, you can carry 4 backs of the previous year into the next year.
  • You need to clear all 4 backs from the previous year in the next year. You can carry 4 backs from the current year again to the next year. This circle goes on until you reach your final year.
  • If you fail to clear your backs in some years’ time, you will be considered as NFFTE (not fit for technical education) by VTU.
  • If you have 5 subjects back then you will need to clear at least one subject and join next year. You will have the chance to clear all subjects that year and join as a fresh entry next year without any backlogs for the second year.
  • But try to clear all your subjects every year. If you can manage to clear your labs with 95% and get first-class in theory, you will get an aggregate of distinction.
  • Try to score well in your internals. If you can score 22+ in your internals, there is a good chance that you will be able to get first-class.
  • Make sure that your internal score doesn’t go below 15. If you score below 15 in internals, you may end up failing the subject, even if you score the passing mark, i.e. 35 in external.

Now, if you are opting for revaluation, you can get permission for attending the classes until you get the revaluation result by applying to the college administration. You may need to pay some extra fee for that.

If you have good aggregate and decent logical reasoning and communication skills then you can get a good job via campus placement after completing your degree.

What is the percentage of student passes after revaluation in VTU?

AG
Ajay Gupta Posted On : October 21st, 2021
B.Tech from BMS Institute of Technology (2020)

I have a few friends from VTU, and according to their experience, very few people pass after revaluation. It completely depends on the person that will correct your answer script.

I know people who needed 5 marks to pass but didn’t get it. I also know people who needed more than 10 marks and eventually got it. So, it’s better to apply for revelation irrespective of how many marks you need.

What is the process of converting a percentage to a CGPA at VTU Belgaum?

SB
Senjuti Bose Posted On : October 4th, 2021
National Law School of India University,Bangalore

One of my friends studied at VTU Belgaum. According to him, they follow a CBCS, which is a Choice Based Credit System wherein students have the choice of selecting their subjects/courses based on their interests- core, elective, and foundations.

  • CGPA is a measure of the whole cumulative performance of a student for all of the semesters.
  • It is the ratio of total credit points earned by a student and the sum of total credits of all courses in all the semesters.
  • The process of converting percentage to CGPA is very easy. You just have to divide your percentage by 9.5 that will give you the CGPA.
  • For example - If you have 73% then 73/9.5 = 7.6 CGPA
  • And if you have CGPA and wish to convert it to percentage then just multiply your CGPA by 9.5.

The last semester is different from all the others because it has project work and internship as well that get graded. Therefore, this is how you will be able to convert a percentage to the CGPA.

After clearing the backlogs in B.E from VTU, does it add to my final GPA or are they not added for final CGPA calculation?

SR
Sudipta Roy Posted On : October 21st, 2021

I have a few friends from VTU. According to them, only the marks obtained in your first attempt at the subjects in that semester are counted in your GPA/CGPA/Percentage.

The marks obtained in the backlog subjects in the second attempt are not considered at all, even if you score full marks.

How is marks distribution in 8th semester engineering in vtu?

NG
Nalini Guha Posted On : October 4th, 2021
National Law School of India University,Bangalore

According to one of my friends at Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), the total marks in the eighth semester of engineering are 750. There are a total of 6 subjects.

The distribution is as follows:

  • There are 4 subjects whose theory carries 100 marks in the external examination and 25 in the internal examination.
  • After this, there is a seminar that is marked out of 50 and it is internally evaluated.
  • The most important is Project work, as it carries the maximum marks of 200.
  • The marks are then divided equally into internal and external examinations.
  • In order to score well in project works and seminars, you need to make sure to have a good impression of the guide.

The marks distribution is based on Choice Based Credit System. It will be updated in the year 2020.
