Is it worth it to go into 6 new IIMs (Ranchi, Rohtak, Raipur, Udaipur, Trichy & Kashipur) rather than going for an MS?

PS

Selected in IIM-IPM'17

Before choosing a college, try to make sure what you are really interested in. If it is MS then don’t go for any IIM. This is because you can pursue an MBA later in life if MS did not work for you. But you will not get the chance to choose Ms after your MBA. Also since it’s your area of interest, chances are you might find your talents and may want to work on them.

Now if you are sure about the course but confused about the IIMs, I will give you my honest opinion. The new IIMs are enjoying fame and glory owing to the achievements of their predecessors alone. They haven’t done much to attain the level of older IIMs. These new IIMs are poorly organized. The faculty is below average, the infrastructure is substandard and the teaching is pathetic. Yet they are here to claim the coveted IIM tag.

So if you are someone for whom the tag of IIM and its high placement matters only, you can surely go for a new IIM. But if you value education over institutions then base your decision on research.

How was the IIM Rohtak interview?

SM
Shubham Makhecha Posted On : January 10th, 2023
Bachelor of Architecture from National Institute of Technology, Hamirpur (Expected 2024)

My friend once shared his interview experience at IIM Rohtak. He was a General Engineer Male with Acads:9.8/94.4/8.55 Cat: 94.4/71.55/98.5 Overall:96.8 profile.

It was an online interview and the panel comprised a male and a female who made it a very comfortable experience. Before the interview began, he was asked to display the CAT Score card and graduation certificate.

The strange part of the interview was that they did not ask any typical HR questions like an introduction, questions around why MBA, strengths or weaknesses. I have summarized the rest of the interview in points below

  • He was asked to write on "Technologies impact on the job market" for which he was given 30 seconds to prepare.
  • Owing to his Electrical Engineering background, he was asked about AC to DC rectifiers and digital devices.
  • Keeping his Data Science work experience in mind he was inquired about his job role and questions about Supervised and unsupervised learning. They also asked questions about primary and secondary markets
  • He was asked about his hobbies
  • He was from Andhra Pradesh and they asked him about its current government scenario.

My friend was able to answer almost all the questions confidently and the interview ended within 10-12 minutes.

How was your interview at IIM IPM Rohtak?

MB
Mrinaal Bhargava Posted On : January 10th, 2023
Selected for the IIM IPM '18

My friend had an interview at IIM Rohtak. She was a commerce student with 95% in Class 10th and 93.8% in Class 12. It was an online interview conducted by two male panelists.

The interview started with her speaking about herself, her background, school achievements, extracurriculars, and hobbies. She told them her hobby was reading and they asked her about her recent reads. They asked her the following questions

  1. What is more important to you: Money or Happiness?
  2. As a student of economics, consider a situation where all the countries have the same currency. Explain the advantages and disadvantages of the situation?
  3. What if there is a different currency in every state of India. Explain the consequences.
  4. Name any two women entrepreneurs?
  5. Who is the governor of MP?
  6. Who is the Chief Justice of India?

Apart from the last question she was able to answer all and thankfully was able to convert the call.

The truth is IPM interviews are of Class 12 pass outs so are just limited to their knowledge. They mainly test your academic questions and basic knowledge of current issues. All you need to do is be confident and succeed!

How good is IIM Rohtak?

RB
Rohan Bansal Posted On : January 18th, 2021
MBA from Indian Institute of Management Rohtak (2021)

IIM Rohtak is a great option but there are many colleges that are better than IIM Rohtak, but it's all about the options you have.

Hostels:

  • There are 4 and 3 bedroom flats in a hostel.
  • Few hostels are of only single rooms i.e made for Research students but PGP students can also occupy in case of a vacancy.

Mess:

  • The college has a private vendor on contract, on special occasions, the food is good.
  • Most students prefer having food at the mess, some people also order online.
  • There is also Chandan Vhaiya’s Tapir, Amul Parlour and a student-run store on campus.

Classrooms: Classrooms are equipped with air-conditioning, multiple sliding whiteboards, and projectors.

Sports: Ample facilities like multi-purpose cricket, football, futsal ground, a volleyball ground alongside it, an open basketball court, two open badminton courts in the middle of the hostel area, 3 table tennis tables.

Culture: Clubs at the institute are largely student-run groups and offer great exposure.

Location:

  • This is one of the few management institutes nearest to the NCR region. If you are placed for an internship at NCR, then you can travel up down on weekdays when the classes are not scheduled.
  • Delhi airport is easily accessible, which helps students to travel home once in a while with ease.

Placements:

Students get placed based on their merits and performance. The table below has the recent placement statistics for the institute.

Placement Percentage

70-80%

Average CTC

13.7 LPA

Highest CTC

24.06 LPA

Overall, it is good enough to opt for if you are not expecting a convert in the Top 15 B-schools of the nation in the current or next attempt.

IPMAT IIM Rohtak considers past academic records as well but I have got 70% in my 12th boards with extremely low marks in maths. Do I have a chance to get into IIM Rohtak? If yes, then how?

IIM Rohtak offers admission based on your potential and not solely on the marks previously obtained. When the interviewer enquires of you regarding your low percentage, you should honestly answer him/her.

Instead of faltering and mumbling your answers you should confidently speak out your answers. Even if you would be at fault your interviewer would let it slide given that you are not doubtful of your own self. Try not to use any falsehood around them and notably maintain your calm.

One can be of the view that your personality impresses your interviewers. In some cases, this view could be true. Maintain your calm and confidence in yourself and you will crack the interview.

I got admission (PGDM) opportunities from IIM Rohtak and IIM Udaipur! Should one go or sit for CAT again this year? Any suggestions?

SU
Sidhant Unnithan Posted On : January 10th, 2023
I. P. M from Indian Institute of Management Rohtak (Expected 2024)

Sitting for CAT again is honestly not a very easy decision. So I will suggest you go for IIM Rohtak itself. This decision will be beneficial under the following circumstances

  • If your past academic performance is not really good. This is because the older IIMs lay emphasis on past academics too much which in reality cannot be changed. So why risk a year when the chances are nearly zero?
  • If you already have 2 or more years of experience, it’s better you don’t forgo the opportunity.
  • If you are interested in domains like Finance or Marketing, it’s better to join now. This is because working too much in the IT field limits your chances of getting into Finance and Marketing.

So based on these points you can come up with a decision that’s best for you. Just remember that despite being new, IIM Rohtak belongs to the IIM family which in itself is a brand.

PGDM MBA in Human Resource Management & MBA in Marketing, Institute of Management Technology, Ghaziabad

Nulearn is the intermediary of the IIM Rohtak Analytics certification course. It is a decent certification course. Other than the IIM Rohtak brand value you will also have access to the faculty and the resources of the institute. The syllabus has both theoretical and practical modules. All the sessions are taken by the faculties of IIM Rohtak. The course has a separate Tableau workshop. It is a widely used BI tool in the industry. If you already have a job and want to pursue higher studies, then this certification course is a good option.

If you are a management aspirant and looking for options to pursue your MBA, then the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Rohtak is an institute worth considering. Here are some of the reasons why choosing IIM Rohtak can be a wise decision for you:

  • Strategically Located: IIM Rohtak is located in the Delhi National Capital Region (NCR), which has its own advantages. The region is a hub of business activity, and being located here can provide you with exposure to the industry and better placement opportunities.

  • Years of Existence: IIM Rohtak is one of the oldest IIMs in the second generation of IIMs (New IIMs). The institute has been functioning since 2009 and has been able to establish itself as one of the leading management institutes in the country.
  • Campus: IIM Rohtak is currently operating from a temporary campus, but a new and state-of-the-art campus is under construction, which will be installed soon. This new campus will provide you with better infrastructure and learning opportunities.
  • Sales and Marketing Advantage: IIM Rohtak has a specialization in Sales and Marketing, which can be an advantage if you are interested in pursuing a career in this field. The institute has experienced faculty members who have extensive knowledge and experience in this domain.

Is IIM Rohtak going to start a 5-year IPM course?

MB
Mridula Banerjee Posted On : August 2nd, 2021
IIM Bangalore (2018)

IIM Rohtak has already started a 5-year Integrated Program in Management (IPM) in 2019. It is similar to the IPM program started by IIM Indore earlier.

There are some minor differences between the two as well such as the minimum percentage required by the student to be eligible for admission in the course. IIM Rohtak has mandated that a student should secure at least 75% in both 10th and 12th to be eligible to apply for this course.

The number of seats offered by the institute is 160. Undergraduate education in management is not very well promoted in India and hopefully, with IIM Indore, IIM Rohtak, and many more to possibly follow suit, the undergraduate management education will also receive the same glory as MBAs.
