Which one is better NLU Delhi or NLSIU?

SK
Shikha Kapoor Posted On : September 14th, 2021
Studied at National Law School of India University,Bangalore

There is no doubt that NLS is the superior institute. It has many advantages in terms of ranking, exposure, and faculty. Even though NLUD is making significant progress and its infrastructure can be considered better than NLS but still it lags behind in certain aspects.

  • NLSIU has one of the best law libraries in the country. It also has a pretty strong alumni network that would take NLUD a minimum of 15 years to replicate.
  • NLU Delhi was founded recently and has already established itself as one of the greatest law schools in the country.
  • I would strongly advise you to attend NLS Bangalore if you have the opportunity to do so. My cousin who pursued a course from NLS Bangalore is now working in a reputable firm for over 2 years.

The placement details for NLSIU Bangalore for the year 2020 is mentioned in the table below:

Particulars Statistics
Total Students 80
Students registered for Placements 58
Highest Package  INR 18 Lakhs per annum
Lowest package  INR 15 Lakhs per annum
Top Recruiters L&L Partners, Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas, Trilegal, ICICI Bank, Societe Generale etc

People may advise you to attend NLUD as it is closer to your home, but you will learn, explore, and enjoy your college years more if you go to a different city, away from your parents, and discover everything on your own.

Are all the NLUs (National Law Universities) in India good? Or is it only the top tier NLUs (Banglore, Nalsar, Kolkata, Jodhpur) worth considering?

SN
Sanchita Nayak Posted On : September 2nd, 2021
B.A. LLB. Law & Bachelor of Arts Degrees, National Law University, Mumbai (2020)

The tier-1 colleges are the best among the existing NLUs that include NLSIU Bangalore, NALSAR Hyderabad, and WBNUJS Kolkata. These colleges provide the best placement offers and internships. These colleges have expert faculty that can enhance your skills in the related fields along with the exposure of moot courts with universities like Harvard University, Yale University, and many others.

Now apart from tier-1 colleges, NLIU Bhopal, NLU Jodhpur, GNLU Gujarat are also good in terms of faculty, internships, and placement opportunities. NLU Delhi is a reputed college and has a locational advantage.

Among the new NLUs, NLU Mumbai is quite promising and maintains a consistently good record.

But other than the above-mentioned colleges, other NLUs are not that good and you will not have the exposure and internship opportunities.

What is the syllabus for 1st semester in NLU Delhi?

RG
Rakesh Gupta Posted On : September 10th, 2021
B.A.LLB The Constitution of India, National Law University, Delhi (2020)

My elder sister is from this institute, so I think I can answer your question.

Legal Methods is the most difficult of the five subjects you'll study in the first semester. It covers a wide range of issues, including summary writing, finding ratio and obiter dictum, and legislative interpretation. You can read the article “The Case of the Speluncean Explorers” if you want. It's pointless to read the other materials before attending college lectures because the paper is purely application-based. Every year, entirely new excerpts are picked up for the paper.

You can read the first 3–4 chapters of Ratanlal and Dhirajlal for Torts. After a few lectures, you'll figure out the rest.

The syllabus for the other disciplines is primarily lecture and module-based, so there's no use in doing anything ahead of time. However, for Pol Sc, any material on theorists such as Hobbes, Locke, and Rousseau would be helpful.

How much marks in AILET assures you a seat(Gen) in NLU Delhi for BALLB?

AA
Ankit Agrawal Posted On : April 5th, 2023
Studied at National Law University,Delhi (2017)

NLU Delhi conducts the AILET for admission to its undergraduate and postgraduate law programs, including the BA LLB program. The AILET exam is highly competitive, and the cutoff marks vary from year to year, depending on various factors such as the difficulty level of the exam, the number of applicants, and the availability of seats.

It is difficult to predict a specific score that would guarantee admission to NLU Delhi for the BA LLB program, as the cutoff marks may vary from year to year. However, based on past trends and previous year's cutoffs, a general idea of the cutoff marks can be obtained.

Here are the cutoff marks for AILET for the past three years for General Category

  • AILET 2021: 72 marks out of 150 marks
  • AILET 2020: 86 marks out of 150 marks
  • AILET 2019: 72 marks out of 150 marks

It's important to note that these are just the cutoff marks and meeting them does not guarantee a seat in NLU Delhi. Admission is also based on other factors like the availability of seats, reservation policy, and performance in the interview round (if applicable).

So, while no fixed score guarantees admission to NLU Delhi for the BA LLB program, aiming to score around 80-90 marks or above out of 150 marks in AILET exam would significantly increase your chances of getting a seat. However, it is always advisable to aim for the highest possible score and perform well in the interview round to maximize your chances of getting admission into NLU Delhi.

Which is better: NALSAR or NLU-D?

AB
Akash Bisht Posted On : August 31st, 2021
B.A.L.L.B (Hons) from National Law University, Delhi (2022)

Having to know some people studying at both these institutes, I can say for a fact that if you want the original and the true CLAT experience then NALSAR would be the better option. But overall NLU-D is much better. They make the students academically strong and industry-ready.

NLU- D stands out due of several reasons: -

  • NLU-D has established its name in the top institutes in a span of 10 years. It will no doubt beat NALSAR one day too.
  • It has a fantastic faculty and infrastructure.
  • Moreover, NLU- D receives funds from the Delhi government to maintain the facilities provided to the students. Therefore the facilities provided are world-class.
  • NLU- D conducts national and international competitions and pays all the expenses of the participants
  • Being in Delhi, it receives better industrial exposure.
  • This helps in great internship opportunities. It also has guest lecturers visiting continuously from the High Court, Supreme Court and the Parliament.
  • It is considered as the leader in the fields of litigation and other legal studies.
Categories Nalsar NLU-D
Course Fee 6.11 - 8.55 lakh 4.28 lakh
Highest CTC 10-12 LPA 10-12 LPA
Average CTC 5-7 LPA 6 LPA
Recruiting Companies Byju’s, S&P Global, Deloitte, Colgate, etc. AZB, Luthra, TTS, etc.

NLU-D is the better option of the two considering placement, faculty, academics and infrastructure. Both NALSAR and NLU-D are one of the most reputed Law colleges of India. Both the institutes have some advantages and disadvantages when compared to each other. Both of these institutes are highly rated. So choose according to your preferences.

Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) LLB Hons. at NLU Delhi (2020)

Yes, it is mandatory that you choose to live in the hostel during the course period at National Law University (NLU), Delhi. Most essentially, NLU Delhi offers a personal residential campus wherein students are expected to stay while pursuing their courses.

However, there are times that you can otherwise choose not to stay full-time in the hostel of NLU Delhi. It is only in certain distinct circumstances that students are permitted to be day-scholar. You will need permission from the administration for the same.

What is the rank of National Law University, Delhi? Where does it rank compared to NLISU, NALSAR, and NUJS?

HP
Hansa Pal Posted On : September 8th, 2021
Studied Law at National Law University, Delhi (2021)

Comparing any institute among NLISU, NALSAR, and NUJS is not an easy task. Moreover, all the colleges are good but there are some pros and cons seen in every institution.

NLU Delhi has surpassed NUJS, but it is yet to catch up with NALSAR or NLS. The reasons are quite straightforward.

The first two batches of NLU Delhi have secured amazing placements and showed tremendous growth.Even though it is true that current placement numbers show that NUJS has an edge, the vital reason behind this is that the batch size was a handful too.

Secondly, Delhi has an upper hand in its location. It is near to many corporate houses and IT firms. Students can go for training and internships there. It is a preferred destination for education for most North Indian students, who form the bulk of CLAT takers.

On the other hand, if you see, Calcutta is not really a dynamic city anymore; rather, it has become static. Thus, most people who would get NLUD and NUJS would naturally lean toward NLUD.

Even after considering the AILET tougher than the CLAT why do most of the top rankers (of both CLAT and AILET) choose NLSIU over NLU Delhi?

JB
Jagat Behera Posted On : September 14th, 2021
Studied B.A LL.B Law & Economic Policy,National Law University,Delhi (2013)

Although AILET is more difficult than CLAT, this does not imply that NLU Delhi is better than NLS.

If you look at the placement reports of both these colleges, NLS has done significantly better than NLUD. The weather is also a big influence here; Bangalore has a pleasant environment, but for Delhi, the weather conditions may become a bit harsh for some times especially during summers.

For your reference, the placement of NLU Delhi for the year 2020 is mentioned in the table below:

Particulars Statistics
No. of Students placed (B.A.LLB) 45
No. of Students placed (LL.M) 8
Median Package offered (B.A.LLB) INR 18 Lakhs per annum
Median Package offered (LL.M) INR 8 Lakhs per annum

You can refer to the placement report NLSIU Bangalore in the table given below:

Particulars Statistics
Students registered for Placements 58
No. of PPO 23
Highest Package offered INR 18 Lakhs per annum
Lowest package offered INR 15 Lakhs per annum
Top Recruiters L&L Partners, Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas, Trilegal, ICICI Bank, Societe Generale etc

If you attend NLUD, you will have incredible opportunities because you will be living in a city with India's best High Court and Supreme Court. On the other hand, Bangalore is an MNC hub, you will get corporate employment and internship opportunities there.

Furthermore, NLSIU is recognized as the "Harvard of the East," implying that this college has surely done something worth the recognition that it receives.
