Medical students from all these colleges are quite decent. They are normal people studying at reputed institutions. I have good friends in MAMC and LHMC.
It is in fact society that puts an extra burden on these people. They are expected to be social all the time. But this expectation is very unrealistic.
It is not right to put labels on these individuals. Their busy schedule should not be confused with egoistic behavior.
All three medical colleges; Maulana Azad Medical College, AIIMS Bhubaneswar, and AIIMS Bhopal are great institutes offering top-quality education. But AIIMS as a brand is better than MAMC considering the better college environment it offers. Nowadays, Bachelor's degree is more like a qualifying degree, and the better tag you are associated with the better branch value your degree holds. It’s exactly why institutes like IIT & AIIMS are preferred as they give you a varied outlook on the prospects of your career and provide better exposure.
As an AIIMS student, you will have better exposure to research, innovation, management, entrepreneurship, etc. This opens doors for more careers than just a normal clinician. The only two major drawbacks it has are
JIPMER is a great institute, even better than MAMC. However, the location, language, and culture barrier might be an issue for North Indians.
MAMC’s high intake is a major drawback of the institute with a student population as high as 250. Even the best faculty won't be able to manage 250 students in one go.
Considering all options, AIIMS is the best option for you!
Yes, there is an unofficial annual trip for MAMC 1st year students, usually after the end of 1st Professional Examinations in the month of August. The trip is the perfect break from the tiring exams and is highly looked forward to by the freshers. This trip was initiated by the seniors who also accompanied students on the trip.
However, since the trip is unofficial, the students have to bear all the expenses of travel, stay, adventure activities, and meals.
My friend was a first-year student at MAMC and his batch was taken on a trip spanning Saattal-Mukteshwar-Nainital. They started the journey with a bus and soon reached their first destination. Instead of staying in hotels, they set up tents surrounded by lush greenery and lakes and waterfalls. They even organized a campfire and played all sorts of games. Many adrenaline freaks also took part in adventure sports like Rock climbing, Rappelling, Kayaking, flying fox, etc.
Overall, it was an amazing experience and I recommend going on the batch trip once with your batchmates.
I will try to answer your query and provide some additional information.
After the top most colleges- AIIMS, PGI, JIPMER, NIMHANS and SGPGI, these are the colleges you should try for- Medical colleges in Delhi are the best choice. Out of these, MAMC is the most desirable. It is followed by VMMC, LHMC and UCMS. Then come the medical colleges in Mumbai. KEM is a top medical college, followed by Sion and Grant. Colleges of Kerala and Madras are at par with one another. But Madras Medical College is the best among these. AFMC and CMC Vellore are great for patients, but not so much for the students.
Thus, MAMC is a great choice. I do not possess much knowledge of KGMU and IMS BHU, so I haven’t talked about them.
It will be better to go to Maulana Azad Medical College, Delhi (MAMC). Here are some reasons why:
If clinical exposure and academics are considered they may be at the same level, but MAMC being under Delhi University has an upper hand.
Both LHMC and MAMC have a similar quality crowd and even the location is similar. In fact, LHMC is just 2 km away from MAMC. MAMC however, is nearer to the metro station.
LHMC takes postings seriously. The girls are given a lot of freedom so LHMC not being a co-ed hardly affects the quality of their campus life in any way. In fact, it makes it better because of the unimaginable freedom.
Both the colleges have a decent academic ambiance. LHMC is well-known for its OB-GYN and Pediatrics departments. Girls get a lot of hands-on experience and are trained excellently under the guidance of experienced faculty.
A true and literal comparison between these colleges can only be made after personally visiting colleges.
One of my cousins is a student at MAMC Delhi and here are a few highlights of the institute based on the experience she shared.
Hope this helps you!
Both these premiere Indian institutes are academically at par with each other. But you should consider these points when choosing between the two-
Both the colleges are equally excellent. You must choose between them based on your personal preference.
The choices you have right now are somewhat very closely related to what my brother’s choices were very recently in his career. Thus, here is a thorough insight about what my brother mentions,
Here are some major benefits MAMC provides, which other institutes do not,
The only major advantage AIIMS Rishikesh enjoys over MAMC is the tag it has, which the latter does not have. So choose wisely.
It’s not difficult to choose one between the two as I would always give preference to MAMC over AIIMS Bhopal.
Considering the above points, MAMC is the best choice for you. The faculties are highly qualified and it also delivers good quality education.
So we can say one-day AIIMS might become a prime institute but right now it doesn't look to be in a very good condition
