In the session 2018-19, around 90% of UG students got placed with the highest CTC offered being 39 LPA and the average CTC was 11.44 LPA. For PG students, the placement rate was 69%. CSE branch received 100% placement, 90% for Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, 89% for Civil, 86% for Electrical, and 83% for Mechanical. The maximum offers were received by the CSE students.

The major recruiters in the session were Amazon, Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, KPMG, L&T, Deloitte, Directi, Reliance Industries, IBM, Tesco, Samsung, Apple Inc, while the top PSUs being ISRO, DRDO, IOCL, HPCL, ONGC. A total number of 89 companies took part in placement drives in the college. The number of companies visiting the college and the placement rate has been continuously increasing in the past 3 years.

There is an option for a 100% Tuition Fee waiver for SC/ST/PH students. And, full remission of the fee for most economically backward students (whose family income is less than Rs.1 lakh per annum). Also, IIT Bhubaneswar allows remission of 2/3rd of the fee to other economically backward students (whose family income is between Rs.1 lakh to Rs.5 lakh per annum).

To get into IIT Bhubaneswar civil engineering you need to get through a written exam and an interview. After receiving the call letter from IIT Bhubaneswar, make travel arrangements, and reach there a day before, get settled properly before the written exam/ interview. You should study and prepare only for that subject for which you are being called. Mostly in interviews, they don’t ask Maths and Aptitude so you can skip it, but prepare your core subject properly. The results of the written test are declared within 1 hour of the exam. If you are selected, you will have to go through document verification. You might have the interview on the same day or you will have to wait for one more day.

The interview is purely technical, generally, questions are asked to test your basics concepts. But as it is IIT, there is no boundary of the questions. They can go deep into concepts. Online Applications are taken for students who wish to apply for the Remission of fees for B. tech/ Dual degree students under the Notice no. 204. The students who are willing to apply can do so by logging on to the ERP site of the institute.

Students whose family income is not more than 5 Lakhs are eligible for remission. The students whose family income is less than 1 lakh are eligible for full remission of tuition fees and whose family is between 1 Lakh and 5 Lakhs per annum shall get a remission of 2/3rd of the fees.

There is a list of documents that need to be submitted for the same, a few of which can be downloaded from the college ERP site itself.

1. For salaried class

• Salary Certificate of the previous financial year in the format of Form given in Annexure 2.
• Attested copy if IT form 16 to be issued by the employer along with ITR duly acknowledged by the concerned income office.

2. For Non-salaried class

• An Annual Income Affidavit for the previous financial year in a Non-Judicial stamp of Rs.100.
• Attested copy of Income certificate from local District authorities like S.D.O./B.D.O./M.R.O./TAHSILDAR/CHAIRMAN
• Attested copies of ITR form/ IT return as applicable for the previous financial year duly Stamped/sealed from the concerned income tax office.

3. For Pension / Family pensioners

• Annual Pension payment certificate for the previous financial year in the prescribed Form Z given in Annexure-4 to be issued by pension distributing officers.
• An income and Non-employment certificate from local district authorities like S.D.O./B.D.O./M.R.O./TAHSILDAR/CHAIRMAN
• Copy of P.P.O., Superannuating/Retirement/Termination letter, and attested copies of I.T. documents.

IIT Bhubaneswar ranks 17th in the Engineering category by NIRF 2019. It is one of the new IITs established in 2008. It has an active placement cell which received the highest annual salary package offered was 39 lakhs per annum. NIT Surathkal is a well-reputed name in Indian Engineering institutions. According to NIRF Ranking, it ranks at 22 nationally among engineering institutes in India. ECE in this NIT is even better as compared to a few IITs. The placement records of 2018-19 show that 97% of placement offers were received by students in this department. The average placement offer was 12-13 LPA.

Both IIT Bhubaneswar for Mechanical and NIT Surathkal for ECE are good choices with their own advantages. So, choose wisely according to your convenience.
