Do Class 12 marks matter for freshers to get placement in NITIE?

SR

Studied MBA Industrial Management & General Management, National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2019)

According to some of my friends studying at NITIE Mumbai, the 12th standard marks are very important and it matters a lot during admission for graduation and placements. Having good marks in the 10th and 12th standard helps a lot but it is not the end of the world.

  • Companies that visit the campus for placements have their own individual preferences.
  • Some companies give preference to 12th standard marks, but this is not the case with every other company.
  • Many companies give preference to college scores and recruit candidates based on their performance in personal interviews and group discussion rounds.
  • Some companies also look from which tier college you belong as they only want to interview candidates who have passed out from a tier 1 college.

There are several other factors that are important for placements. Like extracurriculars, additional skills, etc. Thus your 12th standard mark isn't the last thing. A lot of other factors matter for your campus placement in NITIE.

Is it worth leaving a NITIE Mumbai admit for IIM Trichy if I'm not sure of specialisation to pursue?

AJ
Advait Joshi Posted On : June 4th, 2023
Lives in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India

NITIE Mumbai is a renowned B-school which focuses majorly on Operational management. It has the best placements in this field. Also, it admits only Engineers for its MBA program. So, if you want to explore and not sure about your specialisation in MBA, you can choose IIM Trichy over NITIE Mumbai. Because IIM has many specialisation to offer, which will give you a holistic approach of MBA.

However, IIM Trichy is a new IIM and NITIE Mumbai is very old institute. The placement of Nitie Mumbai is far better than IIM Trichy, but in niche domains.

Is NITIE Mumbai a better option than an M.Tech from IITs?

SB
Sanghita Bose Posted On : August 20th, 2021
NITIE (2020)

You didn’t mention your branch, which makes it difficult to draw a conclusive comparison. NITIE is known for its Industrial Engineering course.

If you are talking about Industrial Engineering is definitely the better option as compared to IITs. It offers great placement opportunities for Industrial Engineering students. The average CTC offered at the institute is around 20 LPA. In 2021, the highest CTC offered was 44 LPA. Such salary packages are unheard of for M.Tech courses at IITs.

If you are talking about branches other than Industrial Engineering then you should first figure out which branch interests you more, before choosing an institute.

What are the chances for an instrumentation engineer to get an admission in NITIE through the GATE?

AG

IIM Bangalore (2020)

My brother is a student of NITIE and during his time at the institute, I got to know about the admission procedure there. NITIE does not differentiate between different branches of engineering. Even an instrumentation engineer has the same opportunity for getting admission as others.

However, multiple factors can affect your selection other than your engineering branch. There are different weights allocated for SSC marks, HSC marks, graduation, GATE/ CAT score, and GD-PI score, respectively. The sum of all these scores is used to evaluate candidates for the final selection.

Overall, NITIE encourages and maintains student diversity on its campus.

What are my chances of getting selected in NITIE, Mumbai through the GATE considering the fact that I have no working experience?

PS

PGDPM from National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2019)

One of my friends graduated from NITIE and here are some things I got to know from him regarding your question.

  • Yes, you can apply for NITIE without any work experience.
  • NITIE takes in a lot of freshers, not only in Industrial Management but also Project Management and Manufacturing as well.
  • NITIE is considered one of the schools to offer great job opportunities for both freshers and experience holders.

NITIE Cutoff for GATE (Expected) –

Category GATE Cutoff Scores
General 720 to 760 +
OBC NCL 550 +
SC 500 +
ST 420+

They usually tend to take a batch mix of experienced and inexperienced students. So if you are clearing the cutoff, A confident performance at group discussion and an interview must help you make it. NITIE does this to maintain a proper balance among students.

Why have you left HPCL to join NITIE?

SK
Suchana Keshri Posted On : August 18th, 2021
Post Graduate Diploma in Management, National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2019)

I have a few friends who work at PSU like HPCL and here are their insights on the job.

Advantage: HPCL, IOCL, or any other PSU offer a huge sum. The work culture is very relaxing contrary to what you might have heard about corporations.

Disadvantage:

  • It will get very monotonous. You will supervise but won't do any work. When you'll only have repeated tasks or nothing on your hands, then you realize that you're not growing here. Some of my friends have had only one year of substantial work in four-five years of their work experience.
  • You will interact with the public a lot and they'll be mistrustful of you and your methodology because they associate knowledge and wisdom with grey hair. If you are joining in from top B-Schools and after handling intensive tasks in Core Companies, then this place will be full of joy.

Based on the interactions I had with my friends, I will say most people who leave PSU jobs are due to the monotonous work culture.

How is the PGDIE (post graduate diploma in industrial engineering) from NITIE? What are the marks needed on the GATE?

AK
Ashmita Khanal Posted On : August 16th, 2021
Studied PGDIE & PGDMM at National Institute of Industrial Engineering

NITIE resealed the 2021 GATE cutoff for PGDMM and PGDPM. Which is as follows.

Category  GATE Cutoff
General  609
OBC  473
SC 345
ST  317
Physically Disabled  473

Even if the admission to the PGDIE course is done through GATE, the course is considered as any other management course in the industry and at par with the Tier one b-schools in India. I would suggest you to go college if you are looking for a generalist management course.

By management, I do not mean managing a team intrinsically. You can always go for individual roles if you possess the right set of skills. These include formulating strategy as a consultant, working on big data/analytics, managing supply chain, or working as a product manager for e-commerce companies, etc.

Significant numbers of students are hired from NITIE by the big companies. This increase in the hiring also caused an increase in the salaries offered and diversification in the roles offered.

Shall I apply for all the three courses of NITIE Mumbai or just one? Is it worth it?

AS
Arish Sengar Posted On : August 12th, 2021
MBA from National Institute of Industrial Engineering Mumbai (2019)

As one of my friends made it to the institution through CAT and is pursuing PGDIM, I might be able to help you with your question.

To get shortlisted for the programs at NITIE Mumbai, there are two exam options:

CAT

  • To get a call for the GP and PI round meant for the flagship program at NITIE, you need to score more than 97 percentile.
  • The placements are good for this program.
  • PGDISEM is another program that you can apply for with your CAT score.
  • The cut-off is usually around 86 percentile.
  • It is related to the environment and the placements are also specific to the area.
  • I would suggest you opt for this course only if you are interested in the environmental area.

GATE

  • You can apply for PGDIE through your GATE score.
  • PGDIE and PGDIM have placements in the same pool.
  • The course is good and you also get a stipend.

All the courses stand out because of their uniqueness. If placements are concerned, all these courses are the same. However, apart from these courses, PP and PM are two other courses that you can opt for with CAT scores. But, these are new courses and have poor placement records therefore, I would recommend not opt for these.

Does NITIE accept 1 year of experience and 1 year of gap for studying for the GATE?

AR
Ayan Roy Posted On : March 24th, 2023
studied at National Institute of Industrial Engineering

NITIE does accept candidates with a one-year gap in their education or work experience. In fact, the institute allows one year of experience and one year of a gap for studying for the GATE. What matters most to NITIE is your GATE score and your experience.

Many students take a break from their studies or work to prepare for competitive exams like GATE. This is a common practice, and NITIE recognizes that such gaps can be used to gain valuable experience or focus on exam preparation.

It's important to note that while NITIE does accept candidates with gaps and experience, the institute has specific admission criteria and cut-offs that must be met. So, it's crucial to check the institute's official website or contact the admissions office for more information on eligibility criteria and application procedures.

In summary, NITIE accepts candidates with one year of experience and one year of gap for GATE preparation, and it is the GATE score and experience that matter most. Taking a gap year for exam preparation is a common practice, and NITIE recognizes this fact. However, it's important to meet the institute's specific admission criteria to be considered for admission.

How much will a low grad score affect summer and final placements in NITIE?

SM
Sanskriti Muharjee Posted On : March 24th, 2023
studied at National Institute of Industrial Engineering

The National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE) is a premier business school in India that offers various postgraduate programs in industrial engineering, manufacturing management, and other related fields. NITIE has a well-established placement cell that works closely with companies to ensure that students get good summer and final placements. However, a low grad score can impact a student's placement prospects to some extent. Here are some factors that can influence the impact of a low grad score on summer and final placements in NITIE:

  • Industry Demand: The impact of a low grad score on placements can vary depending on the demand for the industry in which a student is seeking placement. For example, some industries may prioritize academic performance, while others may give more weightage to practical skills and experience.
  • Past Academic Performance: The impact of a low grad score may be less significant if a student has a strong academic record in the past. Companies may consider the overall academic performance of the student, including their performance in entrance exams and other courses while making placement decisions.
  • Profile and Skills: The impact of a low grad score on placements can also depend on a student's profile and skills. Companies may consider factors such as work experience, extracurricular activities, leadership skills, communication skills, and technical skills, among others, while evaluating candidates for placements.
  • Overall Performance: The impact of a low grad score can also be mitigated if a student performs well in other areas such as summer internships, projects, and other co-curricular activities. Companies may consider a student's overall performance and potential while making placement decisions.

In summary, a low grad score can impact summer and final placements in NITIE to some extent, but the extent of impact can vary depending on several factors such as industry demand, past academic performance, profile and skills, and overall performance. It is important for students with low grad scores to focus on building their skills, gaining practical experience, and showcasing their potential to improve their placement prospects. NITIE's placement cell can also provide guidance and support to students in this regard.
