Despite being a new IIT, IIT Bhubaneswar is considered among the top engineering colleges in India. NIRF has ranked the institute 17th in the engineering category. IIT Bhubaneswar offers a decent ECE program with good placement. ECE is a new branch in IIT Bhubaneswar. Before 2016, electrical engineering was a combination of EEE and ECE. The first batch of the branch went through placement in 2020.
The School of Electrical Sciences has a dynamic group of highly qualified faculty members who are well experienced in their field. The school has 33 full-fledged well-equipped laboratories to design and carry out various projects.
In 2020, 97% of the students from ECE got placements in many top MNCs. The average CTC offered was INR 15.8 LPA, while the highest CTC offered was INR 43.3 LPA. Top recruiters at the institute included Honeywell, TCS, Adobe, Goldman Sachs, and many more.
IIT Bhubaneswar campus is spread over 936 acres under the foothills of Brunei hills, 30kms away from the city. The campus provides the best environment for studies and cultural activities. IIT Bhubaneswar has schools rather than departments and the campus is divided into a residential area and the academic area. The academic area has an independent building devoted to each school. The Centre of Entrepreneurship at IIT Bhubaneswar is pretty good and slowly developing. It was inaugurated on 20th June 2016 by Prof. R. V. Raja Kumar, Director, IIT Bhubaneswar. The Department of Science & Technology and the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India sanctioned 1.50 Crore for the establishment of this canter. The vision behind the establishment of this startup center was to have an enrollment of a minimum of 10 startups in the 1st year of its commencement. The facilities provided at the Centre of Entrepreneurship are food court facility, lodging facility, working/office space, internet facility, electricity facility, laboratory facility, mentoring services, and seed grant maximum up to 2.5 lakh. For the selection procedure, initiation letters for opening startups are yet to be given. Form A is for individuals and teams and form B is for Registered Units Ancillaries and Subsidiaries of establishment Firms. This cell can prove to be a good initiative provided the management and faculty implement innovative ideas too. The highlight of this center is their conduction of Esummit. It is a two-day event which hosted lectures by eminent personalities across various domains. The Centre of Entrepreneurship also organized a workshop on “Funding Opportunities and Legal Aspects of Startups” on 9 April 2016.
The semester result of IIT Bhubaneswar is postponed. This is because of the Covid-19 related quarantine situation. IIT Bhubaneswar has issued a notice. It is for the revised academic calendar for Spring Semester 2019-20. According to the notice, they will form a special senate for the result announcement. The special senate will decide the result announcement in two installments. The first one will be on July 7, 2020, for final year UG and PG students. The second one will be on August 14, 2020, for the result of UG, PG, and Ph.D. and supplementary. The notice was approved on May 1, 2020, and amended on May 12, 2020. But the dates may be preponed or postponed based on the developments of the Covid-19 situation and decision taken by the institute.
The placement of IIT Bhubaneswar has never disappointed its students. There has always been an increase in the number of companies who visited IIT Bhubaneswar over years for hiring mechanical engineers. In the 2017-18 placement season, a total of 83% of students were placed from the Mechanical engineering department. From the core industries, the highest number of jobs were offered like other years. The average job package offered at IIT Bhubaneswar in the 2017-2018 placement drive is 10 lacs/annum. While the highest domestic CTC offered was 21 LPA and the highest foreign CTC offered went up to 38 LPA. In 2017-18 the number of jobs offered increased compared to 2017. A total of 41 companies visited campus during the placement drive. Top recruiters included PSU’s like ISRO, IOCL, BPCL, NCCBM. Mechanical has always been one of the best department in IIT Bhubaneswar because of the great faculties they have from all around the world. Although other departments have shown a curve in their growth the mechanical department has always maintained an inclined curve of its placement.
The M.Tech course delivered at IIT Bhubaneswar is quite good. Besides being taught by experienced and renowned faculty, the institute offers many opportunities through placements to students who pursue their M.Tech. Around 65 percent of M.Tech students who got enrolled in the institute got placed in renowned companies like HCL, Infosys, Goldman Sachs, Accenture, including others in this year’s placement drive before the countrywide lockdown. Some have even managed to secure themselves in top PSUs like IOCL, HPCL, etc. Among 69 students in M.Tech who were interested in placements, 40 students got placed.
Besides the impressive placement scenario, you will get the opportunity to pursue your project under the guidance of venerated faculty. After the completion of the M.Tech course, most of the students opt for Ph.D. in renowned foreign institutes. Others, who prefer jobs, get recruited in reputed companies. CSE at IITB and IIT Bhubaneswar both are well-recognized in India. However, I don’t have much knowledge about CSE at IITB but I can surely give you insights on CSE at IIT Bhubaneswar. IIT Bhubaneswar has a good reputation and offers high academic standards. IIT Bhubaneswar offers full-time Btech and MTech programs in CSE. The average tuition fee for 4 years of BTech program is around INR 8 lakhs. IIT Bhubaneswar offers excellent placement for the CSE branch, with the highest package being INR 55.75 LPA, the median package being INR 20.31 LPA and the average being 20.18 LPA.
If you ask me, choosing IIT Bhubaneswar for CSE is a better option as the CSE branch for IIT Bhubaneswar is great.

There are basically two types of English courses in the first year at IIT Bhubaneswar,Basic English,andEnglish for Communications.
Basic English or Learning English involves the basics in English such as grammar, punctuation, etc. The course is aimed to develop the listening, speaking, and reading skills of students. The syllabus covers writing practices, practice in listening and speaking in English and grammar practice, etc.
English for Communications is tougher than Basic English as it involves some advanced learning in the subject. It is an integration of language, literature, and communication. The objective of this module is to build confidence and to develop presentation skills, the manifestation of ideas, viewpoints, and thoughts.
The English Diagnostic Test is conducted for first year B.Tech students at the beginning of the academic year. It aims to test one’s knowledge in the subject, the questions asked are basic. Based on the results of the test, the section in which one study is determined. If one scores well in the test, they are registered in English for Communications and if one scores an average mark then they are registered for Basic English.
