Which one to choose, lower NIT or College of engineering, Pune or DTU ?

NS
Natasha Sonawane Posted On : August 14th, 2020
B.Tech Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology, Nagpur (2016)

DTU is a tier 1 engineering college and has a distinct legacy of its own. It is one of the oldest engineering institutes in India and according to the 2020 NIRF Ranking, it ranks 34th among the top technological institutes in India. The placement scenario at DTU is quite impressive and students receive an average package of 6.5 LPA on placement drive.

Although COEP is also a reputed college, most of the students are local and Marathi speaking. So if you are comfortable in Marathi and can strike a balance between Marathi and English, then you might consider COEP. The biggest advantage of COEP is it is located in the automation hub Pune which helps in the placement, especially for the mechanical branch.

Although the ‘NIT’ tag offers certain advantages, except for IT and ME branches the placement scenario in lower NIT’s is not up to the mark. Besides, these lower-ranked colleges also offer fewer opportunities for startups and entrepreneurship. DTU on the other hand has an excellent coding culture and conducts a vast number of fests for coders. However, a major difference between DTU and lower NITs is that the fee in the latter is much less as compared to the institute fees in the former. All NITs have a common fee structure as they all come under the reserved list of “Centrally Sponsored Institutes”. Furthermore, NITs also offer many scholarships for students.

However, considering all the aspects and the associated pros and cons, DTU should be the first choice.

FMS BHU is the best among all of these. There is no comparison with any other colleges.

However, if we look at NIT Trichy vs PUMBA, NIT Trichy seems to be a little better than PUMBA in terms of placements and their fee structure is almost the same.

FMS BHU Placements:

Should I choose NIT Trichy for CSE or IIT Roorkee for metallurgy? Why?

AR
Anusha Rahaman Posted On : April 11th, 2023
Lived in Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee

My brother was in the CSE branch of NIT Trichy and based on his experience, here are a few pointers:

  • The professors are extremely learned and experienced and impart quality education
  • The relative grading system establishes peer pressure, and as a result, there is tough competition among the students
  • IIT Roorkee is well known for its rich coding culture that is promoted by student-driven and institute funded clubs. These clubs give you additional knowledge on web designing, App development, and game development that might be useful later in
  • The CSE department is one of the most coveted branches, and being a part of one will inculcate a sense of privilege.
  • The hostel and campus life is decent with all necessary amenities.
  • A total of 5 fests are held throughout the year and are totally funded and organized by the institute. The institute is located in an area that helps you explore nearby tourist spots like Pondicherry and Ooty.

You won’t ever regret choosing NIT CSE.

Which one is better, NIT Trichy CSE or IIT Delhi EE?

SP
Shankar Pandey Posted On : April 3rd, 2023
B.Tech Production and Industrial Engineering, National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli (2020)

Both NIT Trichy and IIT Delhi are excellent Engineering colleges providing premium education. The choice of the branch, however, should be based on what you are expecting from your graduation. If it’s packages you are after, obviously, NIT Trichy is the right choice for you. But if you are driven by opportunities, exploring more things, and higher studies then IIT Delhi is the one that will open doors for the same. IIT Delhi is a globally recognized brand in contrast to NIT and thus one can easily go for higher education abroad with the IIT tag working in your favor.

Then again, the final decision should be based on your genuine inclination, personal preferences, and career prospects.

Which is better to opt, aerospace engineering in IIT Madras or CSE in NIT Trichy?

AG
Aditi Goswami Posted On : March 30th, 2023
studied at Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (2018)

Anyone who has the option of choosing IIT Madras must without further thinking grab the opportunity.

  • IIT Madras is Ranked the No.1 Engineering college for the past few subsequent years.
  • Joining IIT Madras will let you change your branch based on your CGPA
  • IIT Madras has excellent culture and peer groups and fairs much better than NIT Trichy in this aspect.
  • The level of competition at IIT Madras is higher and thus you will grow continuously unlike NIT where you will already be among the toppers
  • The plethora of opportunities and exposure at IIT Madras is incomparable to that at NIT Trichy.

My friend was a graduate student of Automotive Engineering (Engineering Design) from IIT Madras but ended up with a career in Data Science and Algorithmic Trading. Thus every engineer irrespective of his branch should be proficient in at least one programming language.

Choose your college wisely as it’s responsible for shaping and steering your career.

Which is better: Mech in IIT Madras or CSE in NIT Trichy?

SP
Shankar Pandey Posted On : March 28th, 2023
B.Tech Production and Industrial Engineering, National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli (2020)

The choice of the branch, as well as the Institute, depends on a lot of factors like your personal preferences and the other options you have. It’s difficult to say which is better between the Mechanical Engineering program at IIT Madras and CSE at NIT Trichy, as both are highly reputable institutions with strong engineering programs. Both offer excellent curricula, experienced faculty, and ample opportunities for research and extracurricular activities.

Joining NIT Trichy for CSE is a good choice if

  • You are more interested in computer science and software development
  • If you are only after the CS roles and placements. The placements of this branch are pretty good at NIT Trichy with the average package at INR 17-24 LPA and placement rate at 98-100%.
  • If you want to pursue higher studies in MS

Joining IIT Madras for Mechanical Engineering is a good choice if

  • You are looking for an amazing campus life and the IIT tag
  • You are open to non-core jobs because core Mechanical jobs are average.
  • If you want to start a career in CS by learning to code or taking minor courses in CS

Some other options to consider are

  1. CSE at IIIT Hyderabad or new IITs
  2. ECE at IIT Guwahati
  3. EE at IIT Hyderabad

All these have average packages above 20 LPA and are excellent options. The preference order for branches on the basis of job prospects and the current demands in the market is as follows

CSE > M&C > ECE > EE

All these branches are open to software profiles whereas other branches usually offer non-core profiles even Mechanical. Ultimately, it's important to research both programs and consider your own interests and goals before making a decision.
