How is campus life at NMIMS, Mumbai for an undergraduate?

PR
Priti Roy Posted On : June 19th, 2021
Studied at Jadavpur University (2018)

The campus life of undergraduates in NMIMS, Mumbai is not that good, according to my friends studying there. The points below give a brief overview of the campus which is allotted for undergraduates, along with the condition of its facilities on campus.

  • There is no separate campus for undergraduate students in NMIMS.
  • Their lectures are taken in the Mithibai college building, mostly on the 7th and 8th floors.
  • The new campus of NMIMS is stunning and has all kinds of necessary facilities. But, only the post-graduate courses are held there.
  • Attendance in NMIMS is very strict for undergraduates. So, almost every student needs to attend classes during their day.
  • Students are allowed to access the NMIMS canteen, which provides decent quality food. Other than that, the street foods available outside the campus are excellent.

Therefore, there is no genuine campus for undergraduates in NMIMS, but just the floors in Mithibai College, which are somewhat disturbing due to the continuous Mumbai traffic outside the building.

Which college is better for a part time MBA: JBIMS or NMIMS?

AG
Akriti Gupta Posted On : June 20th, 2023
lives in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India

The way I look at and assess a part-time MBA is different from how I look at and assess a full-time one.

So, I’ll probably look at a few things

  1. Faculty and course structure: NMIMS aggressively markets for their course and sells it better to you. JBIMS, on the other hand, doesn’t. I have had students who have done their part-time but that’s long ago. So, I’m not going to say anything about the course. A thorough research would help. If there is no great difference then I would look at these factors
  2.  Location: As a working professional and a parent, this matters to me. Taking up a course doesn’t change things for me. In fact, I tend to work harder to keep my family happier, somewhere knowing that I’m taking my time away from them. So traveling to the college should be convenient and more important should be the commute back.
  3.  Fees: This is also a factor worth considering. I usually think of what I will learn and many other factors. However, this factor will be important since the course will be self-sponsored and affordability will be paramount.
  4.  Course flexibility: This is also something I will consider. I’m sure the course would take into consideration the work schedules and hectic work life of their students, but as an entrepreneur, I will also consider the flexibility offered for attendance and submissions.

The primary focus should be to enjoy the learning experience and knowing your goals and how it is transacted is very important and must not be compromised.

Does NMIMS Mumbai provide hostel accommodation or residential facilities near the campus? What's the cost associated?

SD
Shivani Deshmukh Posted On : March 14th, 2023

If you are considering staying at MKM Sanghavi hostel at NMIMS Mumbai, here are some important things you should know based on personal experience:

  • Food: The mess facility is available, but it can be expensive at Rs 75 per thali. It is open from around 7:30 am to 10 pm, but breakfast is often not served on time. If you come back from college after 10 pm, you will need to order food from outside. Sharing a thali can be a good way to save money.
  • Washing: There is a washing machine area on the first floor with around 7-8 machines, but only half of them work. With so many girls and only a few working machines, it can be challenging to wash your clothes. MBA students have erratic schedules, and they may not be able to use the washing machine when they want to.
  • Water: There is a machine on every floor, but some girls prefer to buy their own Bisleri water because they have heard rumors of worms in the water from the machines. You only get hot water in your bathroom for a limited time each day, and it can take a while to get hot water. This can be inconvenient when you are busy with deadlines.
  • Fridge: There is a fridge on every floor, and you can label your milk tetra packs with your name. If there is no fridge on your floor, you can ask the authorities to provide one.
  • Curfew: The curfew is 11 pm, but you can enter later if you are coming back from college or placements. However, once you are in the hostel, you cannot leave after 11 pm. If you need to stay in the library to study, they will not let you out after curfew.
  • Rooms: The rooms are spacious, with most being triple sharing and a few twin-sharing. The beds are single beds with box beds, and you get a study table and cupboard. Storage space is decent, but lighting is low, so many people use table lamps in addition to the light at the study table.
  • Bathrooms: The bathrooms have been designed well, with three separate areas for the bath, toilet, and wash basin. Lighting is low, though, and some plug points may not work.
  • Open drain: The biggest disadvantage of the hostel is the open drain behind the building, which leads to a lot of mosquitoes. The common area on each floor overlooks the drain, and some rooms have balconies that open to the drain.

How helpful would an online MBA degree be from NMIMS, Mumbai?

AD
Anuraag Das Posted On : May 10th, 2023
Studied at MBA from NMIMS (2020)

The new ruling or the new update is that the online program of NMIMS has been stopped by the UGC. But even if it was in place, I would have suggested you in a negative. Go for full-time programs always and if possible do it from some premier B-school. In fact, do not go for an online MBA in India, until and unless you have some dependencies or constraints. Instead, go for some other short-term courses which are industry oriented or in other words, in-demand courses that align with your career goals and interests. Some examples from my side - get yourself PMP certified, do some digital marketing courses, big data and analytics for any industry, supply chain management, and many more.

How do I prepare for case discussion and personal interview process to get admission in the MBA program for NMIMS mumbai?

RB
Riya Bannerjee Posted On : July 27th, 2021
Studies MBA at IIM Ahmedabad

One of my friends has recently been in the interview session at NMIMS Mumbai and can explain it better. Here is what he has to say,

  1. The Group Discussion (GD) at NMIMS Mumbai is usually quite similar to the Case Discussion pattern.
  2. The only difference between them is that, in Case of Discussions, you will generally be given a scenario or situation where you will need to justify, analyze and evaluate possible solutions and later come up with the most suitable answer, while in Group Discussions, you are usually allotted a topic to discuss.
  3. The best possible way to prepare your problem-solving skills is to practice in groups of about 10 to 15 people.

For the Personal Interview Session, you should usually follow these:

  1. You must read as much as you can about the course you are about to go for.
  2. The current social and economical issues are mostly following up in and across India.
  3. The various economic sectors and their effects.
  4. The latest schemes and policies adopted by the government and their general effects.
  5. If you possibly have planned your specialization, you should undeniably know and read more about it.
  6. Prepare certain general questions, such as the introduction, why you are going for an MBA, and why have you considered pursuing a particular specialization among many others.
  7. Know about your strengths and weaknesses, your achievements and failures, and how exactly will you project your achievements in NMIMS, Mumbai.

The major hack is to receive important feedback and practice daily to know where you are relatively going wrong. Besides, read new topics every day.

If I got a call from NMIMS Mumbai but could not clear the GDPI, do I still have a chance to join NMIMS Bangalore or Hyderabad?

AG
Asutose Ghose Posted On : May 23rd, 2023
studied BBA (Finance), NMIMS, 2016

Generally, NMIMS Mumbai has a higher cut-off score than other NMIMS branches i.e., Bangalore and Hyderabad. NMAT score of 245 must have helped you get a call for an interview from NMIMS Mumbai.

Even if you could not convert NMIMS Mumbai, if you would have opted for Bangalore and Hyderabad then there is a chance to get a convert from them as well. Keep track of the waitlist movement. A shorter waitlist will ensure a seat in these B-schools. And Also get in touch with seniors and alumni of the college to get an idea of the waitlist movement.

How helpful would an online MBA degree be from NMIMS Mumbai?

AJ
Advait Joshi Posted On : May 10th, 2023
Lives in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India

The best advice for you is to pursue a full-time MBA or, at the very least, an executive MBA from a top business school, which are significantly more valuable than certain full-time MBAs.

To be honest, won't encourage you to enroll in an online MBA program at any of the Indian universities. Rest, it would be better to enroll in industry-oriented courses based on your area of interest. To mention a few, getting your PMP certification, doing digital marketing courses, learning big data and analytics for any business, and supply chain management are just a few examples. As per the latest news UGC has ended the online program of NMIMS, So, please choose wisely and better.

Are Narsee Monjee and NM Colleges different?

UG
Udita Ghose Posted On : August 6th, 2021
Studied at Narsee Monjee College of Commerce And Economics

NM is the acronym for Narsee Monjee. There are two colleges that go by the name Narsee Monjee, i.e. Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics and Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies.

Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics is affiliated with Mumbai University whereas Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) is deemed to be a university.

However, there are other colleges whose acronym is NM like Nirmala Memorial. In that case, NM wouldn't be indicating Narsee Monjee Institute.

Which MBA college is better, specifically for MBA-HR, Narsee Monjee (NMIMS) Mumbai or XIMB, Bhuvaneshwar?

DM
Divyang Mittal Posted On : July 7th, 2021
Studied MBA from SVKM's NMIMS

You should definitely choose NMIMS Mumbai. A number of people would be of the opinion that XIMB HR is good but the change in the brand name from XIMB HR to XaHR has adversely affected the placements and compared to this, NMIMS Mumbai HR is growing extremely well in the case of placements.

You can compare the two colleges on the following points:

  • Location: Mumbai is the best city to do your MBA from. The city has a lot to offer in terms of growth in life and you will not be able to learn like this in a place like Bhuvaneshwar. You will also have better live project opportunities, a good corporate interface and this is where NMIMS trumps XIMB.
  • Batch size: NMIMS has a smaller batch size of 60 students as compared to the 120 student batch that XIMB has. NMIMS takes students on the basis of merit whereas XIMB has a few reservations as well.
  • CTC: XIMB may have lower CTC due to higher batch size and NMIMS has a better average.

A lot of the current XIMB HR students will advise you to not go for XIMB HR. It does have lower fees but NMIMS has many more advantages that offset this parameter. Overall, NMIMS has many better profiles to offer as compared to XIMB.

If you are stuck in this dilemma, you should surely go ahead and opt for HR at NMIMS Mumbai.
