Can I get into IIM A/B/C or XLRI or SCMHRD?

AJ
Advait Joshi Posted On : May 18th, 2023
Lives in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India

Top management institutes in India like IIMs, XLRI, and SCMHRD require a combination of academic performance, entrance exam scores, work experience, extracurricular activities, and performance in selection rounds like Personal Interviews and Group discussions.

Top IIMs (A, B, C) have CAT cutoff percentiles of 99 or higher. XLRI's XAT cutoff is over 95 percentile, and SCMHRD's SNAP threshold is approximately 97 percentile. These cutoffs can change from year to year depending on factors including the number of applications and exam difficulty.

Academic performance is crucial but not the primary criterion for admittance. Admissions committees seek well-rounded applicants with leadership potential, great communication skills, and a demonstrated passion for the field. Thus, if an applicant excels in other areas, they can still get into a prestigious B-school despite poorer academics.

Top B-schools are competitive and require outstanding academic performance, high entrance exam scores, and strong applications.

What is the best course to take in IIM Bangalore after BE?

TG
Taushif Ghose Posted On : July 28th, 2021
MBA from Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (2017)

IIM Bangalore offers three main programs. Which are as follows.

  • PGP (Post Graduate Program) of two years.
  • EPGP (Execute Post Graduate Program) of one year.
  • FPM (Fellow Program in Management), equivalent to Ph.D.

Out of these three programs, the flagship programs of the institute are PGP and EPGP. All these programs have various specializations to choose from and study. The best course to take in IIM Bangalore depends upon your academic background, interest, tenure of course, and the most important is your work experience.

If you have less than four years of work experience, a PGP of two years will be the best choice. If it is more than four years, and EPGP of one year will be more suitable. However, if your work experience is more than six years and you have completed your master’s degree or equivalent in any discipline, FPM is the best course.

Overall, the choice depends upon you.

I got 85 percent in 10 and 12 and 88 percent in B.Tech. Will I be able to get a call from IIM Bangalore?

JJ

Studied at IIM Bangalore

For admission to old IIMs such as Ahmedabad, Bangalore, and Calcutta, CAT scores close to 100 percentile or a little less are primarily used. Academic performance above 80% in Xth, XIIth, and Graduation, on the other hand, can be an added advantage for candidates seeking admission.

Candidates are expected to have taken the CAT with a minimum score percentile in order to be considered for admission. After completing higher secondary education, a bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification must be obtained for a minimum of three years.

If the candidate has grades or CGPA rather than percentage marks, the equivalence is based on the equivalence certified by the institution/university where the bachelor's degree was obtained. If the desired university does not offer equivalence certification, the equivalence is certified by IIM Bangalore.

A solid academic record, success on the entrance tests, and other selection criteria are required for admission to the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bangalore. Although the minimal academic standards for IIMs change every year, a strong academic record is often regarded as crucial for admission to these prestigious B-schools.

Since you are presently in the eleventh grade, you still have time to raise your academic standing and develop a solid reputation after 76% in 10th. In addition to doing well on your 11th and 12th grade examinations, you should strive to do well on entrance tests like the CAT, which is the most popular entrance exam for admission to IIMs. To demonstrate your abilities and interests, you can engage in extracurricular activities, apply for internships, or engage in volunteer work.

Having said that, a strong academic record alone does not guarantee admission to IIMs. IIMs also take into account a candidate's complete biography, which includes employment history, extracurricular activities, leadership qualities, and other pertinent accomplishments.

So, while having a strong academic record is crucial, admittance to IIMs is not only based on it. To increase your chances of being accepted into IIM Bangalore or other prestigious B-schools, concentrate on developing a good profile, enhancing your academic achievement, and preparing well for the admission examinations.

What is life like at IIM Rohtak as compared to other campuses like IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Bangalore? Is the salary package good enough too?

BG
Bidita Ghose Posted On : June 26th, 2023
Lives in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India

IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Bangalore are older and more established than IIM Rohtak. However, it's tough curriculum and competent teachers make it a respected Indian university. Students here learn leadership, communication, and teamwork through extracurriculars.

Salary packages depend on sector, job profile, personal skills, and work experience. IIM Rohtak graduates earn Rs. 18.73 lakhs annually. This number depends on student performance and recruiting policies. High-achieving students with strong communication and analytical abilities can expect greater salaries. IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Bangalore, on the other hand, have the strongest alumni networks, industry contacts, and reputations in India.

Graduates from these institutions typically receive higher salary packages than those from IIM Rohtak. The average salary package for IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Bangalore is around 40-42 lakhs per annum, with the highest package going up to Rs. 80 lakhs per annum. The high salary packages are a result of the strong industry connections and alumni network of these institutions, which provide students with excellent job opportunities and career growth.

Is it clear that because of 78.75% in 12th, I don't have any chances of getting into IIM Ahmedabad or Bangalore?

TS
Tara Sachdev Posted On : July 29th, 2021
Studied at IIM Bangalore (2019)

The admission to IIM Ahmedabad or IIM Bangalore depends on a lot of factors other than just class 12th marks. The tables below will give a breakup of the weightage used by both these institutes during the initial shortlisting and final admission for the batch of 2021-23. You can visit the official websites of both institutes for better clarity.

Shortlisting
Categories IIM Ahmedabad IIM Bangalore
CAT Score 65% 40%
Academic Profile 30% 50%
Work Experience 5% 8%
Gender Diversity - 2%
Final Admission
Categories IIM Ahmedabad IIM Bangalore
CAT Score 25% 25%
Academics 15% 25%
Personal Interview (PI) 50% 30%
Academic Writing Test (AWT) / Writing Ability Test (WAT) 10% 10%
Work Experience - 10%

As you can see, it depends on a lot of factors, and just because you have only 78.75% in 12th does not mean that you are out of the race. Your class 10th score, graduation score, CAT score along with your performance in PI and AWT/WAT will decide if you will be selected for them or not. It is also seen that IIM Bangalore gives more emphasis on work experience than IIM Ahmedabad.

Do not lose hope and prepare well for the CAT, PI, and AWT/WAT.

All the aforementioned colleges are among the best B Schools in India so the choice between them depends on your preference and future prospects. You need to determine what exactly you want from the program and where your career currently is.

In general, ISB is for people who have better industry experience, good leadership skills and decent academics. The other B Schools focus more on excellent academics throughout your career.

The ranking of these institutes in my opinion is ISB, IIM-A, B, C>IIM-L, FMS, XLRI,>SPJIMR

The above preference order is based on a number of factors like career progression, college market value perception, quality of faculty, quality of students, academic learning, quality of recruiters and infrastructure.
