What are the Group Discussion topics for FMS Delhi?

DB
Divjot Bagga Posted On : January 10th, 2023
Guitarist, Philosopher

Politics and sports are typically not included in GD/PI topics because the panelists cannot assume that all participants are well-versed or even interested in these topics. The panelists prefer delivery over content. Of course, content cannot be completely pointless wishful thinking, but exceptional delivery will always win.

Do not rush into the GD. Most GDs end up being a raging bustle of people interrupting one another and raising their voices to be heard. It is far preferable to remain silent for nearly 70% of the GD time and let the others argue over one topic. When you break in, the others will be taken aback and will silently listen to you. That automatically elevates you to the position of leader and earns you a lot of points.

When asked to sum up, do not include 'your thoughts' or use this as an opportunity to bring up points that were not covered during the discussion. The summary should solely contain the details of the discussion.

Speak slowly and deliberately. You'll be able to express yourself more clearly, and your audience will hang on to every word you say. That automatically elevates you to a position of authority and power - true management potential.

Can a 5-year IPM from IIM Indore be considered equivalent to a post graduate program from there in terms of career prospects et al?

VH
Vaishali Hooda Posted On : August 31st, 2021
Studied at Indian Institute of Management Indore (2017)

IIM Indore is ranked 12th in the Outlook ICare MBA Ranking 2021. It is one of the most prestigious management institutes in India with a huge brand name.

  • IIM Indore offers PGP as its flagship program.
  • But it also offers a dual-degree program, IPM (Integrated Programme in Management). It commenced in the year 2011.
  • An MBA degree after the IPM program is equivalent to the PGP program of IIM Indore.
  • Even the placements for both programs are together.
  • However, if the PGP candidate is a graduate from the top IIT, he will have IIT+IIM degrees, which will be an edge over the IPM program by IIM Indore.

Overall, the prestige of this course will grow in the future when the alumni base for the program will strengthen.

How to rank these colleges for engg., JIIT, Northcap, Shiv Nadar, GD Goenka, Manav Rachna, JSS, Galgotia, AKG, ABES, IET Lucknow, KNIT, or YMCA FBD?

GR
Gaurav Rastogi Posted On : August 5th, 2021
Studied at Shiv Nadar University, (2020)

I heard a lot of people ask these types of questions but it is fundamentally incorrect. VIT is one of the top-ranked colleges in India. However, the VIT students heavily deny this fact.

If your goal is to pursue PG programs or get employment through placements immediately after your graduation, then keep an eye on the curriculum, the flexibility allowed by the elective courses offered by the institute(s). You can also ask the seniors and the committee in charge of the admissions about the placement cell and how it functions.

It does not matter where you go and/or whatever you do; only 30% is in the hands of the institute. That is determined by how your prospects are affected and how your peers are. Rankings are often deceptive. They do not accurately indicate how good the institutes are.

You should make up your mind about your rank, campus life, placements, core academics, peers, etc. You must have a clear idea of what you want to achieve in the future and look for accurate information that will help you in your goal.

Here is a generalized preference order, based on the reviews that I have of these institutes.

Shiv Nadar University > JIIT > Northcap University > YMCA > Others.

Is there any student with poor academic record who got into any of the top B schools like IIM, XLRI, FMS? PS - Non Engineer.

NS
Nisha Shah Posted On : April 22nd, 2023
studied at Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad

Yes, there are students with poor academic records who have made it to top B-schools like IIMs, XLRI, and FMS. B-schools do not solely rely on academic records while selecting candidates. They also consider other factors such as work experience, extracurricular activities, achievements, and performance in entrance exams like CAT, XAT, and GMAT.

To improve your chances of getting into top B-schools, you can focus on the following:

  • Strong Entrance Exam Performance: Score well in the entrance exam. It is one of the most critical factors considered by B-schools while shortlisting candidates.
  • Work Experience: A significant work experience can be an advantage for you. It shows that you have practical knowledge and skills that can add value to the classroom discussions.
  • Extracurricular Activities: Participate in extracurricular activities and showcase your leadership qualities, team skills, and problem-solving abilities. It can make a positive impact on your application.
  • Recommendation Letters: Recommendation letters from your previous employers, professors, or colleagues can help you to strengthen your application. It reflects positively on your character, skills, and potential.
  • Diversity: B-schools appreciate diversity in their student body. So, if you have unique experiences, backgrounds, or perspectives, highlight them in your application.
  • Personal Interview: Prepare well for the personal interview. It is an opportunity for you to showcase your communication skills, analytical abilities, and passion for management education.

In conclusion, a poor academic record should not discourage you from pursuing your dreams of getting into top B-schools. You can focus on the factors mentioned above to improve your chances of success.

How is IIT Dhanbad (mineral engineering)?

AS
Ankit Sharma Posted On : November 24th, 2023
B.Tech. from Indian Institute of Technology, Dhanbad (2018)

As a former student of Mineral Engineering at IIT Dhanbad, I will offer some insight into my department-

Advantages

  1. The number of lectures and syllabus of Mineral Engineering are quite manageable. With some effort, you’ll easily score a good CGPA in all your semesters.
  2. The course will give you free time to study for CAT/GRE/UPSC, or to practice coding.
  3. The department allows more freedom to enjoy campus life and perform other activities on the side.

Disadvantages

  1. You can’t write the GATE exam.
  2. Very few core companies visit the campus, and the placement scenario is in a poor state for Mineral students. However, with good communication skills and an 8+ CGPA, you can hope to get placed in a good organization.
  3. The curriculum is light, so you’ll severely lag behind foreign university students.
  4. The package offered to Mineral students stands nowhere compared to that grabbed by CSE students.

But despite the disadvantages, you’ll have to make peace with the fact that your rank isn’t enough for CSE. Also, not everyone in CSE performs exceptionally.

Mineral Engineering (especially at IIT Dhanbad) has very limited scope, but it offers you ample freedom and time to work on your skills and build your future.

How is electrical engineering in NIT Durgapur? What are the scopes in this branch?

GJ
Gagan Jain Posted On : September 8th, 2023
Studied at National Institute of Technology Durgapur

Here are a few points about the electrical department of NIT Durgapur-

  • Placements- Some core companies that visit the campus for placements are- Mahindra & Mahindra R&D, Tata Motors, Schneider Electric, ABB, Siemens and L&T. But these brands hire 5 students at most and the packages offered aren’t that good. However, companies like Qualcomm, Goldman Sachs, Future First and IOCL offer good packages.
  • Infrastructure- The infrastructure of NIT Durgapur has improved. Old dilapidated buildings have been renovated.
  • Academics and Professors- The schedule of EE isn’t very hectic. You’ll get lots of free time. You can use it to learn PLC, SCADA and MATLAB from various sources. You can also work on specialized projects under your preferred mentor. Some of the finest teachers in NIT Dgp teach electrical machines, renewables and high voltage engineering. You’ll need to teach yourself the other subjects.
  • Facilities- The library has plenty of books on each subject. You’ll get a fast speed LAN and a free of cost IEEE subscription on campus. The lab tools do their job, but they aren’t precise.
  • Extracurriculars- Most of the fests and clubs are designed for coders. Core tech people don’t get a lot of opportunities in clubs and events.
  • Peers- There is an unhealthy rat race prevailing in this college. Getting good GPAs is considered the only real academic achievement.
  • Campus Environment- There is a lack of senior-junior interaction these days, unlike the past. Strict restrictions to avoid ragging have cost the campus its vibrant environment.

If you aren’t getting a good branch in Southern NITs, MNNIT Allahabad or MNIT Jaipur, you can definitely go for electrical at NIT Durgapur. The electrical department here is good overall.

How was your experience at IIT madras?

ST
Sneha Thakur Posted On : March 31st, 2023
Studied at IIT Madras (2019)

A close relative of mine was a student at IIT Palakkad which operates under the mentorship of IIT Madras and had the absolute delight to spend some time in the IIT Madras campus for her 1st-year workshop course.

Accommodation: All boys were made to stay in the Krishna Hostel which accommodates students from various courses; BTech, MTech, and even Ph.D. students. The rooms were allotted on a double occupancy basis. The building was quite old but the new rooms were decent and the washrooms were clean and hygienic.

Connectivity: Every room had its own LAN port but one had to login credentials to use the internet.DC++ could be used directly and worked smoothly.

Food: Unexpectedly the north Indian food served in the Himalayan Mess H all was good and the quality was also decent.

As my sister was specifically there for the workshops, she visited the labs that were top-notch and well under the supervision of great instructors who were eager to teach. She was impressed with the highly experienced staff who taught concepts with such dedication she had not seen before. She was able to make the most out of her 10 days because of their relentless guidance and support.
