With a rank of 7900 and armed forces rank of 229 (I belong to the general category), is there any chance of getting core branch at IET Lucknow?

AG

Admission to IET Lucknow can be done through the UPSEE exam. If you belong to the general category then you should definitely put some effort into it.

With a rank of 7900 and armed forces rank of 229 while belonging to the general category can be difficult for admission. There is no chance that you will be picked in the first few rounds and get the best branches. Your rank might be called by the 4th or the 5th round if there are still seats available.

The detailed analysis for 4th round counseling with the rank and specific branches are as follows: -

Branches Opening Rank Closing Rank
CSE 1000 1200
IT 1500 1800-2000
Mechanical Engineering 2100 2500
Electrical Engineering 2700 3100-3300
ECE 2600 3500

Around the rank 7000, the 5th round of counseling begins and by then all of these above-mentioned branches are already filled or have very few vacancies.

New core branches such as Electrical and Instrumentation Engineering are introduced and candidates with a rank near about 7000 are admitted into it.

The above-mentioned analysis is for general category students only and it huge varies for any other category

What branch will I get with a rank of 2450 in the UPSEE (OBC-550) in IET Lucknow?

With the rank, you have secured and the category you belong to, you have good chances of converting any branch except IT or CS at IET Lucknow.

However, it is not quite possible to exactly predict it. Go through all the rounds of counseling and wait for the results.

Since you have a good rank, your chances of making it to some good government college are high.

Can I get into the chemical engineering program at IET Lucknow with a general of 20K and a GNGL of 2,500?

B.Tech Mechanical Engineering, Kamla Nehru Institute Of Technology

Honestly, the answer is No. One of my friends was in a similar situation and he did not get admission with a rank closer to this.

With the GNGL rank of 2,500, it would be very difficult for you to get into the chemical engineering program at IET Lucknow. The general rank is way higher.

I would strongly suggest you not settle for any random private college with this rank. It would be better to take a year drop.

However, if you have other options such as JEE Mains, you can try private colleges like LNMIIT, Thapar, etc.

What should I do, take a drop or take the IET Lucknow CSE branch?

RC
Raju Chauhan Posted On : August 6th, 2021
B.Com from Shadeed Bhagat Singh, Delhi University

It’s difficult to answer this type of question. In any case, you have to weigh a number of things before making a decision.

  • If you believe you were unable to put up your best efforts this year but will be able to do so next year, a drop can be a viable alternative.
  • If you decide to take a risk, there's a chance you'll end up with a worse result than you have now. During preparation, you'll have awful days, bad mocks, and pressure from friends and relatives, among other things. You'll also have to keep studying while coping with all of this.
  • If you've always pictured yourself as an IIT/NIT student, you might want to reconsider. If coding is something you want to do for the next 5–6 years, CSE at IET Lucknow may be able to assist you. But keep in mind that, despite recent advances, placements at IET remain behind those of several NITs and IITs.

To summarise, spend some time analyzing your likely scores for next year and conducting a study into the opportunities you may have. And whatever you choose, stick to it and work as hard as you possibly can.

Which is better: IT or chemical engineering at HBTI, Kanpur, or CS (or any other branch) at IET, Lucknow or BIET, Jhansi or KNIT, Sultanpur?

HG
Himanshu Gupta Posted On : February 16th, 2021
B.Tech from Bundelkhand Institute Of Engineering And Technology (2018)

Having friends from IET and studying at BIET, I have enough knowledge about both the institutions. So, my suggestion will be HBTI. It will be a better choice than the others. But before selecting any college you must first learn about each college and its branches.

Firstly while choosing an institution, know where your interest lies and then opt for the desired subject. Secondly, choose the college which gives you more exposure. Make the list of all the pros and cons of the institutions and make a final decision based on it.

  • Research about every stream - Gain information about each stream the college is offering, and choose the one that strikes your interest. Also research about the future prospects of the subject, which will help you make an informed decision.
  • Examine what you require from the college - Every student has a different need from the institution they study in. This could be prospects in higher education, competitive exams like CAT, GATE, UPSC or maybe the college’s industrial, cultural and technical exposure.
  • Pointing out pros and cons of any institution is equally necessary. Talking to ex-students of that institution will provide a clearer picture of the institution. Always before committing over an institution, check your long term goals and how it will strengthen your career.

IT or Chemical Engineering from Harcourt Butler Technical University or HBTI will be a better option than other colleges. HBTI is one of the oldest engineering institutes that offers Bachelors, Masters, and Doctoral programs. The placement cell of HBIT is also good. Therefore, you can choose the HBTI for IT or Chemical Engineering. You can choose either branch in the field as per your interest and in the sector, you want to pursue your career.

Does BIET Jhansi and KNIT Sultanpur Computer Science better than non-core branches at IET Lucknow?

As you have come up with this doubt, I assume that you have got a good rank in UPSEE. So, congratulations on securing a good rank in UPSEE that gave you the opportunity to choose from such elite institutions.

Unless and until it is an IIT, core branches are always a better choice than non-core branches.

Forget about non-core branches in UP government colleges, there is not much facilities and exposure. So, if you are getting a chance, it is highly recommended to go for CSE in BIET or KNIT because in CSE or IT, you just need a laptop and good internet connectivity and these colleges provide WIFI facility. You will have to indulge yourself in regular practice to bring the best out of yourself, as everything is available on the internet.

CSE would be a better choice if you look forward to getting placed after your graduation. If you want to pursue higher studies then, non-core branches at IET Lucknow will give you a better exposure such as coaching institutes, because of its location.
