Why NITIE over IEOR?

KS
Krishna Srivastava Posted On : August 13th, 2021
Studied Mechanical Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay

Actually, there is no comparison between NITIE and IEOR. Choosing one of these two institutes depends on your inclinations and interests.

  • The PGDIE, MM or PM courses at NITIE are continued like an MBA program rather than an M.Tech program. In terms of course curriculum, there is less stress in NITIE, the projects are often taken lightly. The course curriculum has some basic management subjects such as accounts, HR and the rest is domain-specific. You will also have the option to choose some electives.
  • At IEOR IITB, the course curriculum is not taken lightly. Here you will learn subjects such as optimization, supply chain, game theory, simulation techniques, system dynamics, Machine learning, deep learning, etc. There are a vast number of electives available. The course curriculum is mixed type, industry and research-oriented.
  • Considering Social life, NITIE is a small institute. IITB, on the other hand, is huge. It has one of the best sports facilities in comparison to any technical institute in the country. There are some huge fests organized such as MoodI and Techfest. There are many other fests as well.
  • In terms of placements, IEOR and NITIE both offer good placements. The students at IEOR candidates get placed in different kinds of organizations and job profiles such as Data analytics, machine learning, financial services, Core-optimization job profiles, supply chain management, and software engineer. The Jobs are of both type research and non-research. Students from NITIE are placed in FMCG for supply chain management, operations management, other supply chain management-related jobs, banks, etc.
  • The average package offered at IEOR is about 12 LPA while at NITIE it is more than 20 LPA.

If you want a course like an MBA and want a job in that domain, NITIE is the place.

Is an IT background required for a planning profile in SCM during NITIE placements?

SV
Sonal Verma Posted On : August 18th, 2021
Studied at the National Institute of Industrial Engineering

No, you do not necessarily need an IT Background to apply in Supply Chain Management (SCM) at NITIE. In fact, your previous work profile is quite independent.

Students who have worked in the Manufacturing or Automobile sector may have a slight advantage over you. Otherwise, everyone is at the same level. Engineering branches like Mechanical, Electrical, and Civil also enjoy an advantage. Graduates from Electronics and CSE easily get through the Planning role.

Once admitted to NITIE, SCM will be taught to you in a very well manner and any company will offer you an SCM profile because of NITIE brand value.

You don’t compulsorily have to be from the IT sector for a planning profile in SCM during NITIE placements.

Is NITIE Mumbai a good option for a female student with a 65 aggregate in a B.E.?

PP
Priyank Patil Posted On : August 16th, 2021
PGDIM from National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2019)

As one of my friends studied at NITIE Mumbai, I can say that the percentage of female students is lower than the male students. Well, the scenario is the same in almost all the Business Schools.

  • Be it the top 15 Business schools, among the total strength of 240, the female students are around 20-25 only.
  • Well, sometimes there has been a case where female students, being less in number, have a good chance to get hired from the companies visiting the college.
  • Moreover, girls like any other student also have to work hard enough to score well and get placed.
  • They, though, get the benefit as they do not comprise the majority among all B-schools.
  • A student should have scored around 65% to fulfill the eligibility for filling the forms for on-campus placements.
  • Besides this, one shouldn’t worry or be proud of scoring less or more marks, respectively, as the companies don’t seek only academics but also personality.

Thus, don’t be sad with your academic scores, just prepare yourself and work hard with dedication and confidence.

How difficult is it for a student of NITIE, Mumbai with Under graduate(UG) score 65-70% to get good summers and final placements? Will low UG score effect in getting good shortlists?

SS

Well once you are in top B-Schools you don’t worry about placements until and unless you are literally under confident with your skills and knowledge. And that happens by chance as the curriculum makes you super ready for the challenges whatsoever.

But, summer placement will certainly affect the number of shortlists you get. Then it is up to you, how soon you can convert one out of the few shortlists that you have.

Also, summer placements will be affected if you have not been part of great initiatives or projects in your work experience to make up for it. So, I can say as no. of shortlists may be low, but the shortlist converting ratio is high as you hold a 2 yr IT Work Ex. and don't worry about summer placements. There is a lot more to do here.

So, this is the detail I can assist you with and I hope you are ready with your preparation. Just give your best and you are in NITIE.

Will automobile companies visit NITIE to recruit?

KA
Kushal Aggarwal Posted On : August 16th, 2021
PGDIE from National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2019)

Definitely. According to some of my friends studying at NITIE, a lot of automobile companies visit the institute for internships as well as final placements.

  • The top recruiters include Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, Anand Group, BMW, Hero Motocorp, TVS Motors as well as Bajaj Motors.
  • The manufacturing sector placements have a high salary of about INR 24 lakhs per annum.
  • Whereas the average salary is about INR 17.9 lakhs per annum.

You can also start networking with some of the alumni from the college who might be working in these companies to help you gain a clear idea about the same.

Why couldn't IIM A, B, and C compete with NITIE in operations?

NP
Nilakshi Patel Posted On : August 18th, 2021
Studied at Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad

The question you have asked can also be interpreted as to why Microsoft is not currently competing with HAL in producing similar products since they both come with their own personal expertise.

Either of the institutes does not need to compete against one another because they already come with their own prospects, image, and information.

IIM Ahmedabad does not actually emphasize students to opt for a management function for pursuing a major or specialization. The course of general management is 2-years long with the liberty to choose electives as per one's choice and on the basis of academic profile in the second year. Students, before placements, are asked to rank and rate companies that they want to call on the campus during future offers.

In fact, IIM - A, B or C is not particularly competing with NITIE, Mumbai in Operations because they both have maintained their own personal brand values which are gigantically different.

They have, at present, established a whole perspective of General Management B-Schools. Apart from that, IIMs do not apparently require to participate in a competition against NITIE as any management course since students over and across India generally only prefer the former anyway.

What are the benefits of studying from nitie bombay?

TP
Tarun Prajapati Posted On : August 18th, 2021
Studied at National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2019)

NITIE is a beautiful campus, and I would like to tell you that one of my friends who was in NITIE had the best two years of his life there. The curriculum is not very taxing, and you can seamlessly weave in that much-needed fun in your academic life, add it with good placement and you are good to go.

I am mentioning some of the advantages to you of studying in NITIE but it is not limited to these.

Better career opportunities:

  • NITIE offers huge opportunities to enter the industries with high packages.
  • NITIE is known as the “Mecca of Supply Chain in India”, many major organizations look towards NITIE for cross verticals requirements.

Return on investment:

  • High return on investment has made engineering students looking towards NITIE.
  • The ROI here is more than you can expect.
  • This is one of the reasons why many students opt for NITIE over even IIMs.

Check the following table for recent placement statistics at the institute:

Categories NITIE Mumbai
Course Fee 12.53 - 14.63 lakhs
Highest CTC 28 LPA
Average CTC 15 LPA
Recruiting Companies Amazon, Cognizant, IBM, TCS, etc.

Location:

  • Located in the city of dreams Mumbai, no doubt NITIE enjoys the location advantage – which leads to a closer and easier industry interaction.
  • It has a lush green campus which is breathtaking.
  • The Campus possesses a beautiful pond with a walking circumference of close to 600m and is flanked by lush green gardens around the campus.

So, from this, you can conclude by yourself how beautiful the campus is and placement, on the other hand, are also really good. You won’t regret choosing NITIE over newer IIMs if any.

Is work experience an added advantage for admissions in NITIE?

SH
Saikat Haider Posted On : August 11th, 2021
Studied at National Institute of Industrial Engineering

There are a few possible outcomes of this. These will come with many advantages and let me discuss them below with you:

Advantages in your course curriculum: There are very less instances where this might happen as subjects are taught extremely well, right from the basics. For example, classes like operation research, statistics for management courses.

  • Project management was a course taken in the first year. But, if you have work experience, you will have a basic idea about the class and understand faster. Similarly, if you have industry experience, you will learn about concepts easily.
  • Keep in mind that this does not mean that freshers are at a loss. You can always ask the teacher to elaborate on an answer. The teachers will also give real-life cases which will help you. They are all experts in their domain. They are seasoned experts who regularly train industry professionals.

Advantage during placements: In this case, both parties are of the opinion that the other is better off. But you should know that this is completely up to you and placement reports are usually a good mix of freshers and experienced students.

  • Having experience will not give you an edge as everyone starts from the same line. Two of my batch mates, one with experience and one without, got offers from the same company – Cognizant.
  • But, Flipkart was one of the few companies recruiting students who had experience range from 12 months to 4 to 5 years.

As a fresher, you might face a few challenges in the first month or two. But, be patient. This does not put you at a disadvantage for the next two years. Everyone gets an equal opportunity so there is no advantage or disadvantage as such.

How should I prepare for NITIE Mumbai through CAT?

MB
Mandeep Borse Posted On : August 20th, 2021
Studied at National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2019)

As some of my friends studied at NITE Mumbai, there are certain facts you should know before starting the preparations.

  • In NITIE Mumbai, for the course of PGDIM, the students with engineering backgrounds are only taken into consideration.
  • After the shortlisting is completed and a student is called for the GD and PI.
  • The score of CAT is not taken into account and the whole admission process takes place on the campus.
  • Now, for the final merit list, it's the scores of GD and PI, on which a student's admission is dependent.
  • For the GD round, it can be based on topics like IRP and for the PI round, the professors can ask questions based on the graduation.
  • Also, current affairs are very important for the PI as what's happening around the globe is something everyone should be aware of.

The questions in PI can be of puzzle form or from subjects like linear programming. Grab some of the weaknesses and strengths and effectively explain them.

Are students from NITIE placed in other countries as well? If yes, in what countries?

GK
Gaurav Kumar Posted On : August 12th, 2021
Studied at the National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2019)

A few of my friends graduated from NITIE and having read online reviews, here is some information I gathered, which might be useful for you.

  • Yes, students from NITIE are placed in other countries. It all depends upon the hiring company with their preferences of location.
  • However, there are middle east and African countries as locations during international placements.
  • Most of the companies recruit you to handle their operations in India. However, some FMCG & Consulting companies deploy you outside India based on the project you handle or if your role requires international exposure.
  • The timeline would be short for such cases.

In the previous year’s placement, 8 International offers were rolled out. International placements were offered by companies like Olam International and Dubai Telecom. Olam International made the highest international placement offer at USD 150,000 per annum. Having said that, Landmark group is a company that hires students for its operations in Dubai.
