In comparing NITIE, Mumbai and IIM, Lucknow, which one is better in all aspects?

IC
Indranil Chaudhary Posted On : August 16th, 2021
National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2019)

In a simplified way, it is often said that IIM Lucknow is better and a lot of factors are in favor. However, both NITIE and IIM Lucknow have their fair share of advantages.

  • NITIE is comparably old and has a strong and wide alumni base. And as a student, the alumni base of any college helps immensely.
  • NITIE has a tag of “Mecca for OPS and SCM”. The students in NITIE get job roles in OPS and SCM which sometimes aren't even offered in the big 3 IIMs as per their alumni. So if you are interested in OPS or SCM then they should opt for NITIE. NITIE is a far better choice for Operations and SCM in terms of the course fee, placements, environment, etc.

Here is a brief comparison of the two institutes.

Parameters  NITIE  IIM Lucknow
Average CTC  20 LPA  58 LPA
Highest CTC  44 LPA  23 LPA
Major recruiters  EY, IDFC First, ETLI Deloitte, Flipkart, Jio, Amazon
Course Fee  11.33 lakhs  19.25 lakhs

Else wise, you can go for IIM L.

What made you leave the IOCL to join NITIE?

NB
Neil Bains Posted On : August 20th, 2021
Studied at Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (2019)

Let me share one of my friend’s experiences, he was in a similar situation like this. These are his views on the job at IOCL. It may differ according to every individual and many may not agree to the points.

  • The quality of work he was given was not something that appealed to him. He was doing mostly administrative and general management work which did not fulfill his needs.
  • Even though you will think that being a PSU does not have any pressure, you are quite wrong. He was in the marketing division and it was really hectic.
  • Most importantly, his career was mostly in the hands of his seniors and those with a good lobbying power were more favored.
  • It is not that the same thing does not happen in private sectors, but there is always an option to quit another company in the same sector. Sadly that is not possible in the oil and gas sector.
  • Promotions at PSUs are based on time and experience rather than merit. The more time you spend with the company, the more rewarding it is for you.
  • Thus you can see even ITI degree holders at the top management of IOCL. This is not the best form of governance.
  • The compensation initially may look very attractive. But later on you will realize that it is actually quite less compared to industry standards.

So according to him, he felt like he was not learning anything new and was stuck in the same position for years. After joining NITIE Mumbai he got to learn a lot more. It will progress his career leaps and bounds.

Should I join the NITIE or take a job?

RS

This depends entirely upon you and how you want your career to be shaped. Still it is suggested that you take a few important things into account before coming to a conclusion.

Your Financial Establishment:

  • Several GATE qualifiers secure scholarships at NITIE.
  • The fee structure is 8000 per month.
  • Other than that, you can also have access to several loan facilities, making your financing quite easier than anticipated.
  • Since the course is 2 years long, it can be easily affordable.

Your Salary Package:

  • A reasonable salary package of a good profile at NITIE Mumbai can range anywhere around INR 12 LPA.
  • It will be closely similar to the increments you receive after about 2 years. However, it all depends upon your growth and how you tackle your work life.

Your Interests:

  • It depends upon whether or not you are interested in Management or Core Technology.
  • NITIE Mumbai will essentially incorporate you in several managerial roles, and will not mostly include any technical ones.
  • Most importantly, a product engineer or technologist with a constant 2 years of experience definitely is preferred more than others.
  • Apart from that, you need to be excellent with handling technology.
  • That being said, if you secure a similar role at NITIE, then you should go for it nonetheless.

Exposure and Experience:

  • Since the course you will pursue at NITIE, Mumbai is more promising, it will fetch you a good amount of exposure.
  • In fact, it will enhance your confidence level by the end of the course.
  • Most essentially, you will secure cross functional exposure.

This is all that you should be aware of. It is suggested that you take the decision wisely because both of them are good choices nonetheless.

Is it worth it to go for NITIE (Mumbai) by getting loan assistance?

NS
Nisha Sheth Posted On : August 20th, 2021
MBA from National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2021)

Although there has been an increase in the fees since last year, the placement packages offered to suffice for that hike in fees. The average package ranges around 19.8 LPA and the highest package around 58.2 LPA which covers the fees hike.

It has highlighted the ROI factor as well. Moreover, NITIE’s fee structure is quite less in comparison to other MBA colleges. Therefore, it would be a safe option to enroll at NITIE by taking a loan.

A student loan can be easily be arranged. You can take a loan from SBI NITIE Branch with an interest rate of 8.7%. The Canara Bank provides a loan with an interest of 8.7% as well.

Should I take job before doing PGDIE from NITIE or directly apply after my b tech?

SJ
Shekhar Jha Posted On : August 12th, 2021

It is definitely not necessary for you to have experience before pursuing PGDIE from NITIE. If you are getting any opportunity to pursue PGDIE just after your BTech degree then you should definitely join it.

Generally, most of the students prefer to do an MBA program after 2-3 years of work experience. And this is because most people don’t have a clear idea about their future and after working for years they realize the importance of management in the industry. So, whether you should join or not is up to you. Having working experience will definitely make your profile better. So, choose according to your convenience.

If you are considering NITIE as a potential B-school option, you may be wondering about its reputation and placement prospects compared to other top B-schools in India. While it is true that NITIE may not offer the same level of exposure and placements as IIM - A/B/C, it can still be a better option compared to newer IIMs. It is important to remember that each B-school has its unique strengths and industry recognition for certain domains.

NITIE is well-known for its focus on operations and supply chain management. If you are passionate about these areas, NITIE can be a great choice for you. In fact, many leading FMCG companies have NITIE alumni heading their supply chain functions. This is a testament to the strong industry recognition and reputation that NITIE has in this domain.

While placements are an important consideration when choosing a B-school, it is also important to keep in mind that a B-school education is not just about getting a job. It is also about gaining knowledge, building skills, and developing a network of professionals. NITIE offers a rigorous and practical curriculum that is designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in the industry.

In addition to its academic curriculum, NITIE also offers a range of co-curricular activities and industry interactions that provide students with hands-on experience and exposure to real-world challenges. This includes industry visits, guest lectures, case competitions, and internships.

Overall, while NITIE may not offer the same level of placements as some of the top B-schools in India, it is a strong option for those interested in operations and supply chain management. With its strong industry recognition and reputation in this domain, NITIE can offer you a unique and valuable learning experience that can prepare you for a successful career in the industry.
