Is it correct joining NMIMS Mumbai core after having 3 years of IT experience and currently earning 50 000 per month?

AJ

MBA at NMIMS(2020)

To establish your credentials before answering the question, as a second-year student at NMIMS Mumbai, you can confidently say that you have three years of work experience in the IT industry prior to joining NM.

If you're considering doing your MBA, NMIMS Mumbai is a great place to pursue it. You can vouch for it because you're almost finished with your MBA and have been placed in a reputed organization with a decent salary.

In addition to a degree and a good pay package, NM can offer you other things that are very important:

  • Industry interface - Since NM is in Mumbai, you have the privilege of connecting with industry stalwarts at conferences, seminars, and guest sessions.
  • Batch strength - Networking is a buzzword that you'll hear a lot once you start your MBA. You'll want to know people, and people will want to know you. That's where the batch strength becomes a real strength.
  • Exposure - You'll have access to great classroom teaching, be able to participate in case study competitions, and execute tasks if you're part of some cell.

Now, here's a reality check:

  • NM is a great place to be. But when it comes to placements, it's generally observed that many people with significant work experience in IT move to IT and consulting roles after their MBA. However, the roles you get once you move to IT again are quite different from what a non-MBA gets. They can include business analyst, product management, pre-sales, and sales roles.
  • There have been instances where people have done good projects, won case study competitions, and performed well in their internships. These serve as certain criteria to make a switch to a different field. If you do well, are passionate about what you want to do in the future, and are also a cultural fit for the company, then you will surely be hired.

NMIMS BBA is better. The curriculum and the faculty base are top-notch. Infrastructure is way better than IP University. You will get good exposure and opportunities to form a great resume. Other than placements, NMIMS also offers support and resources to entrepreneurs. BBA has a placement rate of around 100%. The average CTC for the branch is INR 5-6 LPA. Which is better: IIM Vizag, IIM Nagpur, or NMIMS Mumbai?

SB
Swati Bhatia Posted On : January 17th, 2023
PGP from Indian Institute of Management, Nagpur (Graduated 2022)

My friend was in a similar dilemma a few years ago. She had offers from NMIMS, SIBM and IIM Nagpur. She wasn’t sure if choosing a new IIM over these B Schools would be a wise decision. Yet she chose Nagpur in the end. Some major reasons that led her to choose it were

    • Campus: IIM Nagpur and Vizag both have their own residential campus and amazing hostel facilities. It helps you make new friends and spend time in extracurricular activities and group discussions once your classes are over NMIMS on the other hand lacks hostel facilities
    • Location: Nagpur and Vizag both have a location advantage over other new IIMs in the sense that they have airport facilities promoting connectivity.NMIMS enjoys the best location and many top firms visit the campus because of it. But in reality, it is only the ones with the best profiles that get good roles; others are offered average packages only.
    • ROI: NMIMS does not offer a good ROU because of its high living expenses. Nagpur leads in this aspect because of minimal living expenses, lower fees than other IIMs, and similar packages.
    • Placements: NMIMS has developed a strong alumni base and therefore attracts many top firms. But like I mentioned above, 80% of the batch is offered average roles. It’s only the ones with spectacular profiles that get the best roles. IIMs have a balanced placement scenario in contrast.
    • Brand Value: Despite the unending debate, one cannot deny the brand value of the IIM tag. There are certain HRs from top organizations who still prefer IIM students over other top B Schools. This is the sole reason why the new IIMs give an edge to B Schools like IMT, SIBM Pune, etc.

Based on the above parameters you have to make a decision according to your preferences. My friend was glad she chose IIM Nagpur and it helped her uplift her career through various opportunities.

Do I need to have a work experience for pursuing MBA from NMIMS Mumbai?

vp

M.B.A. - Marketing, NMIMS Mumbai (Batch '19-21)

If you are wondering whether work experience is mandatory to be eligible for NMIMS Mumbai, the answer is no, it is not. All you need to be (or about to be) is a graduate with a full-time degree of 3 years or more.

While having work experience can give you a slight advantage, as it is a part of the evaluatory component for the final admission score, it only accounts for a mere 5%. So, don't worry too much about it. You can always compensate by performing well in your NMAT and CD-PI rounds.

For your convenience, here are the APPROXIMATE (not official) proportion of the different factors that NMIMS considers for their final admissions:

  • NMAT Score - 70%
  • Personal Interview - 10%
  • Case Discussion - 10%
  • Academic Scores - 5%
  • Work Experience - 5%

As you can see, there is always some space for you to outperform and make up for any concerns you have within these parameters. So, focus on preparing well for your NMAT and showcasing your skills during the CD-PI rounds.

Does NMIMS Mumbai give a lot of importance to the overall profile of a candidate?

RJ
Rahul Jadhav Posted On : March 13th, 2023
MBA at NMIMS

If you are appearing for NMAT this year, it is important to focus on getting a high score right now. Achieving a significant score well above the cutoff will increase your chances of receiving a final admission. It is important to keep in mind that profile consideration will come into play once you receive an interview call.

While there are certain aspects that cannot be changed at this point, such as past academic performance or lack of achievements, there are still things you can work on in the short term to improve your chances. For example, improving your knowledge of current affairs, practicing group discussions, and mock personal interviews can help you prepare for subsequent stages of the selection process.

Therefore, it is important to prioritize getting a high score and preparing for subsequent stages, regardless of your past performance. By focusing on what you can control, you can maximize your chances of success in the NMAT selection process

What are chances of converting NMIMS Mumbai in 211?

KS
Krunal Sampat Posted On : February 28th, 2023
PGDM International Business & Marketing, K.J. Somaiya Institute of Management Studies and Research (2020

Your chances of converting to NMIMS Mumbai are average considering the cutoff below

Section

Expected cutoff

Language skills

71

Quantitative Techniques

76

Logical Reasoning

69

Overall

232

The overall cutoff is 232 while your score is 211. This slight variation can be compensated by performing well in other rounds and areas. NMIMS gives different weights to the different parameters that constitute the final merit list:

  • NMAT Score - 70%
  • Group/Case Discussion - 10%
  • Personal Interview - 10%
  • Academic Performance - 5%
  • Work Experience - 5%

In case you think your NMAT score is not enough, acing the CDPI rounds will work for you. Both rounds carry a significant weightage of 10% each and can prove to be definite game changers. Other criteria include work experience and past academic records.

Also, there might be people who score higher than you but let that demotivate you as a lower score can be compensated in consecutive rounds. The CDPI round is rather unpredictable and needs to be handled tactfully. Sometimes the performance of one candidate can affect others in the case discussion round. So be prepared for the worst scare scenarios.

What are the merits of SIBM Pune over NMIMS Mumbai? Is SibM worth it for finance?

AM
Abhishek Mishra Posted On : February 28th, 2023
Self-proclaimed expert

Both the colleges give an equal edge to each other in terms of establishment and worth yet if I had to choose one, I would definitely go for SIBM. I have stated a few points favoring and reasoning my choice

  • Batch size: The major perk of SIBM over NMIMS is its small batch size in comparison to NMIMS. This facilitates better placements and teacher-student interaction.
  • Fees: The fees of SIBM Pune is lower than that of NMIMS because of accommodation and living costs.
  • SIBM Pune MBA fees: ? 13,49,000/Yr
  • NMIMS MBA fees: ?11.95 Lakhs (1st Year Fees)
  • Hostel: SIBM Pune has a hostel facility in contrast to NMIMS which has hostels for limited people that too at a high cost.
  • Campus life: SIBM Pune provided you with an experience of campus life which is lacking on the part of NMIMS.
  • Placements: Although both the B Schools have a 1% placement percentage, the quality of roles is low at NMIMS due to the huge batch size. The time taken for the batch to get placed is also more in the case of NMIMS.
  • COL: The cost of living is less in the case of SIBM Pune whereas a lot is in the case of NMIMS Mumbai.
  • Specialization: While NMIMS is mostly known only for its Finance, SIBM excels in both Finance as well as Marketing.

All these points conclude that SIBM Pune is a safer and better option.

What is the placement procedure of NMIMS?

AM
Abhishek Mishra Posted On : February 28th, 2023
Self-proclaimed expert

The NMIMS placement procedure is rather lengthy and involves a number of steps.

  1. Step 1: Preparing your CV- The first and foremost step of the placement procedure is to prepare your CV. The placement committee releases a predetermined format for the same and you have to prepare your CV in accordance with it and get it approved by the committee.
  2. Pre-placement talks: These talks are held throughout the year and especially as the placement season commences. It’s a two-way process as the students are offered an insight into the kind of roles and packages offered by the visiting companies and the companies in turn get an insight into the quality of the batch on the basis of questions asked.
  3. Placement applications: Students are required to fill in the placement forms in the desired companies. The companies invite applications for interested candidates to apply. This process may include assessment tests, uploading videos, or writing about yourself and why should the company hire you.
  4. Placement days: The commencement of the placement season is what onsets the visits of companies on the campus. The days are hectic with companies visiting the campus alongside PTTs. Every company has its own discrete criteria for selection which may include group discussions and other rounds. The results are declared mostly on the same day.
  5. Final Acceptance: The selected candidates are sent an email from the company informing them of their final acceptance.

The placement procedure remains the same for both summer placements and final placements except that summer placements are less hectic and competitive.

What is the placement scenario for MBA in Entrepreneurship and family business from NMIMS, mumbai?

GR
Garima Rai Posted On : March 1st, 2023
Lives in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India

The placement scenario for MBA in Entrepreneurship and family business from NMIMS, Mumbai is decent but not at par with a regular MBA. However, this is understandable enough as the course is less in demand than the regular MBA. However, the packages offered are quite low because the students joining the program are no geniuses with great academic backgrounds and interview performances. The low demand is the main reason for low packages.

Mainly the students who choose this program over a regular MBA, don’t want to settle just for a job. Their primary goal is to get a better understanding of running a business. So the role offered pays less but is challenging enough.

Anyone who is considering this profile should pay the least attention to packages and placement as the main agenda is to prepare for entrepreneurship. So your goal should be to get a challenging profile at a good company even if the package is low. Another major benefit of doing this course is getting yourself associated with an elaborate alumni network which will prove to be useful in the future.
