Why is NIT Raipur considered average?

My friend is about to finish his 1st year at NIT Raipur. According to his experience, NIT Raipur is considered average because of the following unfortunate reasons.

Average academics/faculty:

  • Faculty over here is very amateur who hardly care, except a few of them.
  • Also, there are many temporary faculties who have no clue about what they are teaching. Moreover, even the syllabus is never completed.
  • Lab assistants have an over-the-top ego. The whole curriculum you’ll see in the first year has nothing practical in it. Many teachers just read out from textbooks and make you simply copy.

Average infrastructure:

  • It is not up to the standards of a national institute. The recently renovated classrooms are good.
  • However, you’ll find the campus to be really small with only a few gathering points like a central garden, Amul parlour, canteen, etc.
  • There’s a shortage of hostels and if you are from the general category then better be prepared to stay outside the Institute. Providing hostels for only 30% of students, construction of new student hostels are the least of their concern.

Average placements:

  • Despite being an NIT, the placements are in no way comparable to NITs like Trichy and Warangal. You’ll get pretty average packages of 7 LPA in CSE and 6.5 lakh LPA in IT.
  • For core branches, it's worst with branches like architecture having zero placement.
  • Many branches like biotech and BioMed had less than 50% of students eligible and willing for placements. However, there were some off-campus placement packages like 75 LPA and 20 LPA, but it's rare.

Fests:

  • It is the only thing that is somewhat good. They are fully managed by you and your seniors who are really interactive and helpful.
  • Fests promote inter branch interaction and interaction with seniors. Still, you’ll find that college life is not up to the mark.

Overall, NIT Raipur has a lot to improve, whether it is the curriculum, faculty, or the infrastructure. So, don't come here with high expectations as you will surely be disappointed.
