IIT Guwahati has 14 hostels in total. Every student is offered a single room (or a double occupancy room at times). The rooms are in good condition, and have all the necessary facilities like a fan, a study table, electrical ports, and proper lighting.

Out of the 14 hostels at IIT Guwahati, 2 are Girls’ Hostels and 11 are Boys’ Hostels. IIT Guwahati also has 1 separate hostel for married Phd. students. This hostel has 170 rooms.

The hostels at IIT Guwahati not only provide a proper learning atmosphere, but they also offer recreational facilities like a common/TV room, sports facilities, indoor games facilities (chess, carom, table tennis, etc.) so that the students can enjoy, play games and spend some leisure time.

IITG has several libraries, and Lakshminath Bezbaroa Central Library is the main library. This library is a 4-storey fully air-conditioned building with a high speed WLAN facility.

The IIT Guwahati campus is spread across 703 acres. It is the 6th largest IIT in India area-wise, and it has a beautiful campus. In the backdrop, river Brahmaputra flows on one side and lush green mountains are situated on the other side.

There are around 420 academic staff members and more than 6000 students at IIT Guwahati at present. The campus has all the necessary facilities for students and faculty members. The college has well-equipped laboratories, a library, hostels, playgrounds, and much more. IIT Guwahati has hi-tech modern classrooms, 2 girls’ hostels & 9 boys' hostels, a sports complex, a cafeteria, a gym, a hospital, and more.

IIT Guwahati is one of the 7 oldest IITs, and is known for its Engineering, Management and Architecture courses. The most popular courses at IIT Guwahati are B.Tech and MBA.

IIT Guwahati conducts MBA admissions on the basis of CAT scores. The application portal is- https://www.iitg.ac.in/admission/ . This is the portal on which you can register for MBA admissions at IITG. The MBA 2024 registrations have already closed for IIT Guwahati, and the classes for this session will commence in July.

You can opt for MBA 2025 admissions at IITG, after successfully clearing the CAT 2024 exam. The online registration process of CAT 2024 will begin in the 3rd week of August 2024. CAT 2024 is scheduled on November 24, 2024.

If you want to enrol in the MBA program at IIT Guwahati, you must have completed your Bachelor's from a recognized University with minimum 60%. If you have work experience in the relevant field, you’ll be given preference at the time of admission.

Upon getting shortlisted, you’ll have to face a GD/PI round. On successfully clearing that, you’ll be called for document verification at IIT Guwahati. Your admission will be finalised after you submit the required fees.

IIT Guwahati does not have a full-time course in product management but offers the following two programs in association with Accredian through the Electronics and ICT Academy.

• Executive Program in Product Management (Online) - the program is designed for working professionals looking to enhance their product management skills and knowledge. It provides a deep understanding of various aspects of product management. The course is delivered by institute faculties and industry experts. You can expect to acquire the skills required to lead product teams when the program ends. 
• Advanced Certification in Product Management (5 months) (Online) - is designed for professionals seeking to deepen their expertise in product management. This comprehensive program equips participants with advanced skills and knowledge essential for success in the dynamic and competitive field of product management.

BTech is one of the flagship courses at IIT Guwahati. Students enrolling for BTech courses develop a strong foundation in various engineering disciplines according to the specialisations. IIT Guwahati offers BTech courses in 12 different specialisations.

Admission to BTech courses is based on JEE Advanced score. Candidates clearing the exam have to appear in the JoSAA counselling to get selected. The opening and closing ranks of JEE Advanced 2023 for different branches at IIT Guwahati for the general category are as follows:

For the academic session of 2022- 23, the CSE branch recorded the highest overall placement percentage. For BTech CSE, 104 students out of the total 108 were placed during the campus drive.

The computer science and engineering (CSE) branch has always been the best performing in the placements at IIT Guwahati.

The Department of Electronics and Electrical Engineering at IIT Guwahati is renowned for its academics and research. The curriculum offered covers a wide range of topics in electrical engineering. The department features are as follows. 

• Established in 1995, it is one of the oldest departments at IIT Guwahati. 
• The aim is to provide quality education and research in electronics and communication engineering.
• It also offers an MS (Engg.) + PhD dual degree program 
• Research is divided into 6 broad groups with communication engineering, signal processing and ML, VLSI and Nanoelectronics and power engineering being the prominent ones. 
• The department has contacts with the government and private companies to undertake sponsored projects. 

Admission to the BDes course at IIT Guwahati is based on UCEED scores. Candidates are required to clear the exam and try to meet the cutoff. The institute prepares a merit list and seats are provisionally allotted based on the candidate's choice.

The virtual lab at IIT Guwahati is an innovative experience designed to provide remote access to various laboratory experiments in engineering and science. It offers simulations allowing students to understand complex lab procedures. The institute has 5 virtual labs - Virtual Mass Transfer Lab, Virtual English and Communication Lab, Digital Electronics Lab-II, Digital Anthropology Lab and Creative Design, Prototyping and Experiential Lab. 

I have found the Virtual Labs at IIT Guwahati to be an excellent tool for augmenting my education as a student. These labs give us the freedom to access lab materials whenever and whenever we want, enabling us to conduct experiments and simulations online. A wide range of topics are covered by the lifelike and immersive simulations, which aid in bridging the knowledge gap between theory and real-world application.

The real-time feedback and step-by-step instructions are very useful for reiterating theoretical concepts. Furthermore, the platform makes it simple to communicate results with teachers and students by promoting collaborative learning.
