Is it better to study the CSE branch at 2nd generation IIT like Patna, Bhubaneswar, or prefer mechanical engineering at Roorkee, Guwahati, or Kharagpur?

AS

B.Tech Computer Science Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Patna (2021)

Infrastructure isn’t a key parameter for CSE. So, if you are interested in pursuing Computer Science, you can consider 2nd generation IITs like Patna, and Bhubaneswar. The quality of academics won’t vary much compared to older IITs.

For CSE, what matters more is your knowledge and skills, rather institute name. If you are among the top 10% of your class, you can compete with top rankers from old IITs.

B.Tech Electrical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Gandhinagar (2022)

IIT Bhubaneswar and IIT Gandhinagar both are new IITs and have decent placement records so it’s hard to pick one institute over the other.

According to the NIRF Ranking 2020 (Engineering Category), IIT Bhubaneswar is ranked at 22nd place. The overall M.Tech placements percentage at this institute was close to 69% in 2019. The placement of M. Tech design is quite good too. IIT Gandhinagar is ranked 24th among the engineering colleges of India according to the NIRF Ranking 2020. The majority of placements offers at IIT Gandhinagar are made by PSU’s. Students also opt for different options according to their preferences about different careers.

But in the end, these are just some statistics that can change over time. So, you should make your decision according to your convenience.

Which is better among M.Tech in industrial engineering from IIT (BHU) or M.Tech in design from IIT Bhubaneswar?

AS
Aditi Sinha Posted On : April 30th, 2022
M.Tech from Indian Institutes of Technology

You should choose according to your career plan. M.Tech in Design is a core field of engineering. This branch will be better if you plan on pursuing a Ph.D.

If you want jobs with good salary packages, Industrial Engineering from IIT BHU will be better. Scop of Industrial Engineering is pretty good in India. Students of this branch get job opportunities from sectors like delivery/logistic companies, eCommerce sites, textile industries, FMCG, and manufacturing. IIT BHU offers a median CTC of around INR 15.1 LPA to the students of this branch.

Which is better, IIT Bhubaneswar or old NITs?

SB
Supratik Bera Posted On : August 14th, 2020
Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar (IITBBSR)

IIT & NIT are different in a number of ways and judging on the placement figures, one should not make any decisions. Although old NITs may offer better placement as compared to the IIT Bhubaneswar, there are few factors that make IIT Bhubaneswar a worthy choice. IITs have a brand value that is globally recognized however NITs as a brand don’t offer the same. They demand higher cut off marks during selection as compared to NITs. This results in a better quality of students and in turn better placements.

IITs offer better engineering faculties, however being a new IIT, it still does not have the required number of faculty members. IIT Bhubaneswar collaborates with esteemed institutions like ISRO, DRDO, BARC, etc. Students of IIT Bhubaneswar receive cushy internship offers from some of the globally renowned organizations like Google, Amazon, and Microsoft. NITs research work is not at the same level. With a spacious campus and state-of-the-art research labs, IIT Bhubaneswar provides good infrastructure. Past placement records from NITs indicate that the average pay package offered to the students (B.Tech) is somewhere between Rs 40,000 and 42,000 monthly. Whereas, the average CTC Offered at IIT Bhubaneswar was around 11.44 LPA. 39 LPA was the highest CTC. PSUs like ISRO, DRDO, IOCL, HPCL, ONGC visited the campus for recruitment. Other top recruiters were Amazon, Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, KPMG, L&T, Deloitte, Directi, Reliance Industries, IBM, Tesco, Samsung, Apple Inc, Adobe, Tata Steel, Tata Power, Trident Group, UnitedHealth Group, etc. A total of 89 companies visited the campus for placement drive. Although, variance among the salary packages depends on the ability of candidates and academic performances. All institutes have their pros and cons, so choose an institute based on which course you are interested in and how good is that specific course in that institute.

Is there any dress-code for girls in IIT Bhubaneswar?

RT
Ravi Teja Posted On : August 14th, 2020

No, there is no such dress-code in IIT Bhubaneswar. But there are few basic rules regarding dress code like other colleges IIT Bhubaneswar expects the girls to follow. You should not attend the classes wearing something which may be perceived as inappropriate for the classroom environment. Other than that girls are free to wear what they want in the hostels.

But, there is a certain dress code for certain events in the college. In convocation, IIT Bhubaneswar asks its degree recipient to maintain a proper dress code. The dress code for girls is Saree with Golden Border/Churidar of Offwhite or White or Cream Color. For placements, the girls are always asked to be in their formals. The formals can be in the form of Churidar / Saree / Blazer with shirts tucked in, etc. Since jeans are not a part of formals therefore the girls are not allowed to wear such during such events.

Which one is better, IIIT-H CLD or IIT Bhubaneswar for ECE?

SG
Sumon Ghose Posted On : August 14th, 2020
B.Tech EEE, IITBBSR (2018)

ECE is one of the new branches at IIT Bhubaneswar. The first batch of ECE will be out in 2020. Before 2016, electrical engineering in IIT Bhubaneswar was a combination of two streams EEE and ECE. After 2016, both of these courses were divided and a good number of core and software companies hired electrical engineers from IIT Bhubaneswar. The average placement package offered in 2019 was 11 LPA.

On the other hand, IIIT Hyderabad has witnessed domestic and international placement offers in 2020. There was a huge growth in the placement package from top recruiters namely Adobe, Google, Uber, Amazon, etc. The highest package offered in the year 2020 was 46 LPA and the average package was 21 LPA. A total of 117 companies visited the campus with 289 students getting placed in reputed companies. The students from the CSE department of IIIT Hyderabad received more placements than other sectors with an average package of 26 LPA. The students graduating with CLD can follow a career path in research and in top technology companies.

So, among these two, IIIT-H CLD has a slight edge over IIT Bhubaneswar ECE.
