Did anyone get placed at IIT Bombay after an MTech?

SB
Sumit Bose Posted On : March 20th, 2023
IIT Bombay (2019)

While most answers and placement reports deal with only statistics and data, here I am going to give an insight into MTech branch-wise placements

  • CSE: This branch is considered the best given its high packages and guarantee of placements. In fact, if you are working hard you can even land your dream job.
  • Mechanical and Electrical: If you are after core jobs, then these branches are the best for you. A large number of companies offering core profiles visit the campus. However, recently ML, DL, and AI have gained popularity and thus most Mechanical students are opting for these fields and also conducting research in the same. Basically, this branch to enjoys a high level of placements.
  • IEOR and Applied Statistics and Informatics: All these branches have pretty good placements and almost 100% of students get placed in these branches.
  • IDC - The placements for this branch are conducted separately and the chances of placements are also low in comparison to other branches.

Other branches such as Civil, Chemical, Aerospace, and MEMS: The placements of these miscellaneous branches change every year and depend on 2 main factors, market scenario and the companies visiting the campus for placements. The Placement percentage in these branches varies from 85% to even 50%

AT
Adwait Tejas Posted On : March 20th, 2023
studied Aerospace and Aeronautical Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (2021)

The demand for Aerospace Engineering is gradually increasing and is recognized today by most universities and companies in and outside India.

The job prospects after completing M.Tech are as follows

  • Research work in India: If you are good at M.Tech, you can go for Ph.D. and then you can join any research center or teach in any reputed engineering college.
  • Ph.D. from Abroad: Most students choose this option as they get recommendations from professors and are of great worth abroad. Moreover, with a good academic profile with decent research achievements, you can get a scholarship to top-ranked universities.
  • Teaching within India: Once you have completed M.Tech. you can even join any college as an Assistant Professor.
  • Work in India: Many design and analysis companies offer decent jobs that can be secured through LinkedIn.
  • Entrepreneurship: In this age of startups even the Government is supporting entrepreneurship. So you can take this risk also.

Don’t fear taking a big step as only risks can lead to ultimate success.

Which must one choose: M.Tech. from IIT Bombay or MBA from IIM Bangalore?

AB
Arun Balakrishnan Posted On : February 27th, 2023
Startup Enthusiast, Biker, Music Lover, Cricketer

An MTech from IIT Bombay and an MBA from IIM Bangalore are two very different options. While one focuses on technological aspects the other focuses on managerial aspects. So before even dwelling on the worth of the courses individually you should self-analyze your inclinations and choose one path you are sure about.

Jot down your short and long-term goals. What exactly are you willing to do in your life apart from earning money? Are you more inclined to the corporate world or are the technical elements that attract you more? Having clarity of goals and understanding of what you want from your life is the primary determining factor for choosing your college as well as course.

Objectively, both courses offer a plethora of job prospects and you will gain a lot by choosing any of the two. But making a wise decision here is most important. Choosing an MBA just because it has good career prospects despite having an interest in technology is deluding yourself. You cannot attain success unless you are sincerely passionate about the field you are pursuing.

I am a second-year BTech student at IIT Bombay. My suggestion would be that you go for Mechanical at IIT Bombay. IIT Bombay is placed #3 in the Engineering category by NIRF 2023, and #118 by QS World Rankings 2025. IIT Bombay is currently among the top 3 IITs, and one of the fastest-growing engineering institutes in India.

Here is a comparison table between IIT Bombay and BITS Pilani:

INR 30.37 LPA (overall)

In 2023, 104 students were placed from B.E. CSE at BITS Pilani, and the CTC Range was INR 11-38 LPA.

IIT Bombay is a much more affordable institution than BITS Pilani, and it has equally good placements. This makes it stand much higher in terms of ROI. Moreover, the IIT Bombay tag holds a lot of repute both nationally and globally.

Because of these reasons, I would suggest you choose IIT Bombay Mechanical over BITS Pilani CSE.
