The Fellow Programme in Management (FPM) offered at IIM Kozhikode is a source of excellent management researchers and faculty resources that contribute largely to academic institutions, industry, business, government, and society. The most common job undertaken by its fellows is becoming a part of academic institutions as a faculty member.

Some of the most reputed National Institutes have hired the graduates of FPM. Some of them include

  • Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Indore
  • Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Trichy
  • Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras
  • National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE), Mumbai

Other graduated fellows have also joined the reputed universities around the globe. Many work in Europe, North America, and the Middle East either as faculty members or as post-doctoral researchers. Some such Universities include

  • Loughborough University, United Kingdom
  • Durham University Business School, United Kingdom
  • University of New Brunswick, Canada
  • Strathclyde Business School, United Kingdom
  • Middlesex University, Dubai
  • University College of London
  • University of St. Gallen

IIM Kozhikode does not prefer its graduates to work for the industry. They can contribute to it and occasionally work for it. But being employed by society is discouraged after this program.

Some FPM students who opted for non-academic jobs are now working in top positions at reputed firms. Some roles offered to them include

  • Analytics expert
  • HDFC Mutual Funds Lead
  • Chief Technology Officer Research Team, WIPRO
  • Dy. Manager (Systems), SBI

So the scope of this program is vast. You can never regret pursuing this program. You will excel in every field be it academics or non-academics.

The only drawback is that the placement opportunities for these courses are still unknown. So all we can do is wait for the best results.

If IIM KI is 8/10 (ABC being 10/10) where does IIM Shillong and IIM Trichy stand?

SC
Sarat Chandra Posted On : January 13th, 2023
Former PhD Candidate at Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (2017–2020)

Here are my ratings for the IIMs

  • IIM Ahmedabad Bangalore Calcutta: 10
  • IIM Lucknow: 9
  • IIM Kozhikode and Indore: 7.9
  • Other second-generation IIMs: 7.6
  • New third generation IIMs: 6.8

The above rankings have been done on the basis of age, placements, and research. I don’t think these factors are enough to rank IIMs.

Another major parameter of comparison is the duration of the establishment.

  • First generation: (est before 1984) Ahmedabad Bangalore Calcutta Lucknow
  • Second generation: (est. before 2000) Indore and Kozhikode
  • Third generation:  (est. around 2009) - Ranchi, Raipur, Rohtak, Trichy, Udaipur, Kashipur, Shillong
  • Fourth Generation: New IIMs (after 2014) - 7 IIMs

Most of the FT rankings and online rankings are based on this parameter. In reality, every IIM has top-notch faculty, infrastructure and placements m. Yet the new IIMs will take some time to reach the top.

Can I become a professor after completing my MBA in Finance from IIM-Kozhikode? I can wait to have some work experience. In which colleges, can I have a chance of becoming a professor?

DB
Devika Bhoomi Posted On : September 20th, 2021
Ph.D Mechanical Engineering & Acoustics, Indian Institute of Technology, Bhubaneswar (2019)

There are certain sets of procedures that need to be followed to become a professor in Finance or any other field.

  • At first, you need to clear the entrance examination for Lectureship in the designated domain.
  • After that, find the colleges that have vacancies to teach in that particular domain and get selected for teaching.

Your best available option is to apply for a professor in the university where you have completed your post-graduation. If you were acquainted with the graduate committee, they can recommend you as an assistant professor. It would be better if you start working in the industry related to Financial services as a fresher and gain some work experience. And simultaneously, you can be a visiting lecturer in the colleges that offer MBA Programs.

Between IIM Kozhikode and SPJIMR, which is better for an MBA in finance?

AJ
Advait Joshi Posted On : August 18th, 2023
Lives in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India

Both IIM Kozhikode and SPJIMR offer an excellent curriculum in MBA that is taught by the best and most learned faculty. One of my cousins chose IIMK over SPJIMR because she was inclined toward Finance specifically. Additionally, the IIM tag helped her avail better opportunities.

SPJIMR on the other hand has a few drawbacks that make you want to reconsider joining it. Firstly, it has a triple occupancy room system which may not be fit for everyone. Secondly, its culture is a bit restrictive focusing only on mental development.

Overall, If you are a CA or a CFA graduate with Financial Corp experience, you will be exposed to similar cultures and opportunities on both campuses. But if you are an engineer, you will get better opportunities at IIM Kozhikode.

Ultimately, the final decision is yours to make!

I'm working in a joint venture of Indian government and earning 7 LPA. I'm selected for IIM Kozhikode PGP course (2021-2023) Should I join it?

MS
Mahak Sengupta Posted On : September 15th, 2021
PDGM from Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (2016)

Whether to join IIM Kozhikode or not is definitely your call because the scenario once you join IIM K would be different.

I would like to share with you an experience of my friend, who attended IIM K.

  • He dropped out of IIMK as he found it stressful. You should know that the course is rigorous and it prepares you for the stress that you are about to deal with.
  • Obviously, the chance of you earning a high salary is for sure. But again, it depends on how well the economy is doing.
  • Most of the time the employers have a preference order, i.e. IIT>NIT>fresher, for recruitment.
  • To ensure good placement opportunities try to be in the top 10% of the class in terms of GPA. Also, you can become a part of organizing events, leading clubs, etc.
  • Since you will have 12 months of experience, you will be treated as a fresher and won’t be allowed to sit in lateral placement. So, OPs companies will be out of the picture which is maybe your interest since you are coming from a similar background. So, if you want an OPs job role, stay in the industry for another year and then join IIM K.
  • In order to get a consulting or finance role, you will need to come in the top 10 of your batch. You will also need CFA certification.
  • Marketing and IT companies will prefer you since you are a fresher. So, if you are interested in Marketing or IT, you can definitely join the institute.
  • HR companies don’t usually visit IIM K.

So, I will advise you to consider all these factors and make a more convenient choice for yourself.

I have calls from IIM Indore and Kozhikode, but I have no aspirations to join this year. Need a suggestion if I should the take interview?

SR
Shadab Raza Posted On : March 20th, 2023
B.E from Madras Institute of Technology, Tamil Nadu, India (2019)

When it comes to preparing for an interview, it's natural to feel overwhelmed and unsure of where to start. However, it's important to remember that with the right approach, you can ace your interview and make a great impression on your potential employer.

Firstly, it's essential to focus on your academic knowledge and aptitude, as these are often key factors that employers consider while hiring. Take the time to review your academic records and refresh your memory on key concepts.

In addition to this, it's important to pay attention to your personality and how you present yourself in the interview. This can include things like body language, tone of voice, and communication skills. Consider practicing with a friend or family member to get feedback on how you come across in a professional setting.

While it's true that current affairs may not come up in the interview, it's always a good idea to stay informed and up-to-date on relevant news and trends in your industry. When it comes to preparing for the interview, take advantage of resources like past interview experiences and do's and don'ts guides. These can provide valuable insights into what to expect and how to best present yourself.

Even if you're unsure if you want to join the company, it's always a good idea to attend the interview and keep your options open. If you are selected, you can then make an informed decision based on your experience during the interview process.

With the right preparation and mindset, you can approach your interview with confidence and increase your chances of landing the job. Focus on your academic knowledge, aptitude, and personality, stay informed on current affairs and take advantage of available resources to make the most of the opportunity.
