What are my chances of converting an XLRI call with a 99.9 percentile if I assume my GD/PI are going to be average?

SR

The XAT score acceptance for the selection amounts to about 60%, and if one includes the other essentials checked as part of the profile like Essays, GK, Academics, Work Experience, etc; that comes to 15%. The GD/PI round amounts to 25%. However, the bottom 10% score received in GD/PI rounds may not be considered for final selection.

If you score a 97 percentile and someone scores a 99 percentile then clearly the topper with the 60% XAT score will sail through with ease. When evaluated further, the 97 percentile means that that your XAT score is about 45% and the other students are 60%, so there is a margin of 15%, hence the advantage of the topper is clearly visible by the 9% rise.

It will finally come down to the GDPI score which has a 25% weightage. The 9% advantage of the topper student will be a challenge to overcome, and for that, you must excel in this round because the topper, most probably, will prepare averagely for the interview.

All the top B-schools, except FMS, emphasize the PI score during the selection process so that even the top candidates get rejected based on their profiles and scores.

Are less than 60% marks in btech graduates, are given admission in FMS Delhi, XLRI.XIM and JBIMS Mumbai?

AJ

It will be difficult to get into colleges such as FMS, and XLRI, with less than 60% in 12th but in B.Tech graduates if marks are less than 60%, then it might not be a big problem, it’s achievable.

FMS assigns 10% weightage to 10+2 scores. So, if you manage to score around the 99.5 percentile in CAT, you will have a chance of getting shortlisted. You need to perform well in the GD-PI round as well. XLRI and MDI assign 15% weight to past academics and work experience.

So, try to work on your profile by adding extra-curricular activities. Also, prepare well for entrance tests and the GD-PI round.

Additionally, there is a potential that your application may be taken into consideration if you took part in any festivals or won any competitions during your graduation. If that's not the case, though, getting in will be quite difficult.

XIM and JBIMS Mumbai can take those whose marks are less than 60 percent in graduation. Also, a well-rounded profile is chosen because many other average B-schools are likewise interested in extracurricular activities.

How is XLRI?

SN
Sagar Namdev Posted On : May 22nd, 2023

XLRI's Jamshedpur campus is a verdant oasis, complete with sports fields and facilities for games like cricket, football, basketball, and badminton. There are two entrances to the campus, one near Marine Drive and another near the Circuit House Area. A massive Tata auditorium, with enough room for 1500 people, can be found on the other side of the playgrounds.

XLRI offers two two-year full-time programme on Business Management and another in Human Resource Management.

XLRI offers 25 committees for extracurricular, co-curricular, and functional activity outside its core five courses. They devote a lot of time and energy to things like sports (with devoted coaches), theater, debate, etc. Bodhi Tree, an XLRI student band, is one of India's most well-known bands and has regular jam sessions. On Sundays, certain organisations prioritize CSR initiatives.

The ITES industry made the highest domestic offer of Rs 78.2 lakh per year, while the HR industry made the highest international offer of Rs 1.1 crore per year. Additionally, candidates received multiple proposals in Germany and the UAE.

The average salary increased from Rs 30.7 lakhs annually to Rs 32.7 lakhs annually.

The best 10th and 25th percentile average salaries were Rs 57.7 lakhs per annum and Rs 46.8 lakhs per annum, respectively, XLRI reported.

39 recruiters participated in the placement process this year. Barclays, Deutsche Bank, Emaar Properties, HSBC, Indigo Edge, Mercedes-Benz, Nykaa, Samagra Governance, Shell, and Zomato were among the new final recruiters.

Is there any reservation for home state candidates for XLRI and is there any preference for girls in XLRI?

SS
Shahistha Sayyed Posted On : June 14th, 2021
MBA from Xavier School of Management

To get into XLRI, one has to make it to their merit list. You are wrong to believe that one has to secure a sort of special preference just because they are a "home candidate" in particular.

XLRI neither is under any such compulsion nor does it reserve any seats for any candidate like that. As a matter of fact, no institute does that. Just like the boys, the girls who are admitted at XLRI too possess the apt skills and smartness it takes to reach there. Whatever is taught to girls is similar to what is taught to the boys too. Believing in a misconception like that should be corrected right away.

To conclude, all I would like to say is that be it XLRI or any other institute- not even a single one of them in today's time cares about gender preference. If you are smart, you would be welcomed and respected everywhere.

How good is JBIMS as compared to IIMs, XLRI, and FMS in regard to faculty, placements, alumni, etc.?

SS
Shiv Shakti Posted On : February 28th, 2023
Guest Faculty at JBIMS for training students for GDPI for placements

You are advised to choose wisely when it comes to selecting the top MBA colleges. Most of the top colleges have excellent faculty who are experts in their fields and students highly appreciate their teachings. The alumni network is a crucial factor to consider, and it is best to speak to students and alumni of the colleges to get a better understanding.

The top-of-the-line MBA colleges include IIMs A, B, and C, which are considered untouchable at the moment. XLRI stands out for its HR batch, the opportunities it offers, and its excellent course structure.

If you are comparing FMS, JBIMS, and XLRI BM, you can consider your interest and preference. The author is biased towards JBIMS as her husband is from that college and she has close connections with the students and alumni. However, if you get admitted to XLRI BM, it is a great brand to be associated with, especially if you are interested in finance.

When it comes to choosing between JBIMS and FMS, you can opt for JBIMS if you are sure about pursuing finance, else you can choose either. Among the IIMs, the author rates IIM L above JBIMS and FMS and considers JBIMS and FMS above IIM I and K.

It is suggested not to rely on the ROI concept, as the benefits of a good education cannot be gauged in one year and do not follow arithmetic progression rules. Instead, you should look at the opportunities offered by the college and how it fits into your plan. Do not base your decision solely on rankings posted in newspapers and magazines or the highest packages offered during placement.

How far behind is SIBM, SCMHRD, MDI vis-a-vis XLRI/TISS HR?

TA
Tithi Aggrawal Posted On : May 24th, 2023

There is no scale to measure. But if we go by ranking and students' perspectives regarding these colleges. After XLRI/TISS HR, comes MDI followed by SIBM then SCMHRD based on NIRF ranking.

Colleges

NIRF Rank

XLRI

8

SIBM

17

MDI Gurgaon

13

Based on placements, XLRI is the best in HR placements. It also witnesses placements across the world. If you want to pursue a career in Social work and HR then TISS Mumbai is the best. TISS also offers MA programs and it does not offer MBA.

MDI Gurgaon and SCMHRD is also a better option to consider. They have a good alumni base and decent placements at XLRI and TISS.

Is the academic rigor at XLRI comparable to IIM-A?

AS
Ankit Sinha Posted On : May 17th, 2021
Studied MBA at XLRI

I have a few friends at both XLRI and IIM A and based on the interaction I had with them, I will say that rigor is similar to a greater extent. It is more of a choice - you can choose to let loose or work hard. You can choose to study 3, 4, or 5 hours additionally to have a strong foundation over a topic or simply not.

Academic Rigor - Ranking (XLRI>IIM A):

If we judge these institutes based on the data collected by the Govt. of India, then XLRI coursework is more rigorous as compared to IIM A.

In ranking, Graduation Outcome (GO) is the determining factor of teaching and learning ability of the students, graduation average, success of securing good placements, going for higher education. It is measured based on various parameters such as placement average, Median CTC, percentage of students going for higher education, etc.

There’s a sub-parameter called GPH, i.e. combined matric for placements and higher studies under GO. It shows the academic rigor of an institute. According to the recent statistics, the scores are as follows.

  • IIM A scores 38.46 out of 40
  • XLRI scores 39.81 out of 40

However, rigor is dependent on an individual's decisions and perspectives hence it tends to vary significantly from student to student.
