Do non-CS students from IIT/BITS/NSIT/DTU/IIIT get programming jobs at top companies?

RT
Raktim Tarafdar Posted On : August 24th, 2023

Programming is a field anyone can opt for provided they have the skills and the knowledge. Irrespective of the branch, engineering students are exposed to programming to a certain extent and thus have the skills for an IT job. Non-cs students can get jobs in top companies like Google, Amazon Microsoft, etc. if they are well-versed with algorithms. Even average students get placed in the IT department of companies like Flipkart, Snapdeal, Myntra, Tower Research, Shopclues, Delhivery, Jabong, and many other good startups like Grabhouse and Flatfurnish, etc.

So whether you can join it or not depends on whether you are interested in it and can pursue it long term as your career. If you don’t have a genuine interest the field may tire you out after a while and even the money you make won’t satisfy you. If you think you won’t be able to join because you lack the skills then rest assured, that is certainly not the case. IT Companies hire IITians for sure based on analytical skills only.

Hope this helps you!

What rank do I need in the JEE Mains for getting admission in NSIT?

TD
Tezal Dahiya Posted On : August 23rd, 2023

First of all, congratulations for aiming to pursue your B.Tech from NSUT Delhi. It is a top Engineering institution. However, it is a bit difficult to get into NSUT Delhi. It has an 85% reservation for Delhi NCT candidates. So if you haven’t completed your +2 from Delhi, getting in may get tougher.

You can check the JEE Mains 2023 cutoffs for admission into NSUT Delhi.

The cutoffs differ for OS and HS candidates, and also for candidates from different categories. Some seats are also reserved for female candidates.

The cutoffs vary according to the branch. I would recommend you check this year’s cutoffs and prepare hard accordingly.

Is NSIT ECE a wise choice over NSIT IT? What is the average and highest package offered to the students of these branches in NSIT?

SM
Senjuti Mitra Posted On : August 23rd, 2023
Studied at Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology (Graduated 2022)

Whether the choice is wise or not depends upon your personal interests. ECE is a better choice if electronics interests you. IT would prove better if you are into coding, technology, and computers, and wish to work in this field.

During 2022 B.Tech placements, the overall median package at NSUT Delhi stood at INR 16 LPA. The ECE branch has access to almost all the tech companies during NSUT Delhi placements. Whereas, IT students can’t sit for core companies. However, some top coding companies do not allow other branches except COE and IT to sit for their placements.

Like any other college, tech companies visit NSUT Delhi in greater numbers. But ECE students learn coding and are easily placed in brands like Facebook, Google, etc. The highest and average packages for IT are better than those for ECE. However, the ECE also has a greater number of students.

Right now, I would suggest you focus more on your interests than the placements. This is because, with an interest in your field, you will surely land a good job. Your dedication and commitment will play a greater role than your branch in deciding your future.

Which is better to join DTU/NSIT/IIITD or new IITs or BITS Goa/Hyd Dual for CSE?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : August 23rd, 2023
lives in New Delhi

I won’t recommend you choose a dual program from BITS. For CSE, I would highly recommend IIIT Delhi. It has great research opportunities. It does not have the same branch value as NSUT Delhi/ DTU, but its growth rate is high. It will soon become a brand like IIIT Hyderabad. Compared to the new IITs, IIITD has a locational advantage because it is situated in the national capital.

BITS dual is a decent choice, but only if you get a CS. It depends on your performance in the first year. The odds of getting a CS are less than 20% which is pretty low, and the cutoffs keep getting higher each year. As far as the ‘BITS’ tag is concerned, it's really not that important in reality.

For the new IITs, go only if you are getting a CS over there. Do not rely on branch change. Also, avoid going to those located in small/ secluded towns because then you won’t get a lot of exposure. Also, do consider the faculty and infrastructure if you plan to go to a new IIT. My order of preference for CSE is IIITD > NSUT Delhi/DTU > BITS Goa/Hyderabad > IIT.

Thus, for a CSE, I would suggest you to choose either IIITD or NSUT Delhi/DTU.

What is the process for filing an RTI for the rechecking of an exam paper in NSIT?

TD
Tezal Dahiya Posted On : August 24th, 2023

The process for filing an RTI for the rechecking of an exam paper at NSUT Delhi is as follows:

  • Obtain the RTI application form from the official website of the Central Information Commission (CIC) or the Public Information Officer (PIO) of the institute.
  • Fill in the form with your details and the information you are seeking.
  • Pay the RTI fee, which is currently INR 10 in India.
  • Submit the form along with the fee and any relevant documents to the PIO of the institute.
  • The PIO will then process your request and respond within 30 days.

It's important to note that you must specify the reasons for seeking rechecking of the exam paper in your application. Also, it is advisable to keep a copy of the application and all the documents you submit.

Students are entitled to get a photocopy of their evaluated answer sheet under the RTI Act. The authorities may try to misuse some provisions of the act by refusing to give you the Xerox copy. But do not give up here!

Is NSIT good for a BBA?

Veda Burman Posted On : August 23rd, 2023

Here are a few pros and cons of a BBA from NSUT Delhi-

PROS

  • Brand: NSUT Delhi is a brand in itself and has a good reputation in the entire country. Many companies visit for recruitment, so you need not worry about that front.
  • Location: NSUT Delhi is located in Dwarka, the heart of Delhi. You will get good connectivity from the campus. Shops and malls can also be accessed easily.
  • Students: The selection process is rigid so the crowd consists of hardworking, bright, and innovative students.

CONS

  • Hostel- The college has only half the seats in its hostels as compared to the total students studying in it. Therefore, getting a seat can be quite difficult.
  • Animals- This may shock you but because of its forest area, NSUT Delhi is home to some strange animal species including snakes, monitor lizards, etc.
  • Stream- NSUT Delhi is mainly known for its Engineering, and not its management courses. Also, you won’t have very good interactions with the Engineers and there might be some friction.
  • Uncertainty - BBA is a new course at NSIT Delhi. Therefore, you will find difficulty in gathering placement records and study material. Also, the environment might not really suit you.
  • Strictness- Study and attendance criteria are strict at NSUT Delhi. You might feel overwhelmed at times.

I would say NSUT Delhi is a good choice for a BBA but if you get any DU college, go for it.

Can a 2 year dropper apply for NSIT/DTU?

TB
Trishita Banerjee Posted On : April 8th, 2022
B.Tech Civil Engineering, Delhi Technological University (2020)

Yes, two-year droppers can apply for NSIT/DTU. NSIT and DTU take admission through JEE Mains. JEE doesn’t have any age restrictions or rules regarding drop years.

Students can attempt JEE six times, over the period of 3 years after their 12th.  So, you will find students in NSIT and DTU, who took 2 drop years for their JEE preparation.

Which is better, IIIT Delhi or NSIT/DTU?

TD
Tezal Dahiya Posted On : August 24th, 2023

Here is a short review of each of the aforementioned colleges

  • NSUT Delhi: Go for this college only if you are getting CSE, IT, or ECE here. The infrastructure is lacking but the excellent alumni network makes up for it.
  • DTU : The infrastructure and alumni network is great but the academic level is average.
  • IIIT Delhi: The college is new so does not have an elaborate alumni base but the excellent faculty makes the learning experience great. The curriculum is updated and the infrastructure is modern. The academics are given great focus and the ambiance is pretty rigorous.

Here is what you should prefer for individual branches

CSE

IIITD > NSUT Delhi > DTU

IT

NSUT Delhi > DTU > IIIT Delhi

ECE

NSUT Delhi > IIITD > DTU

For mechanical and other branch

DTU > NSUT Delhi

If you aren’t getting CSE at IIIT Delhi then consider CSD and CSAM branches of IIIT Delhi but only after considering the CSE of NSUT Delhi and DTU.

What should I choose for CSE, NSIT or DTU?

TD
Tezal Dahiya Posted On : August 24th, 2023

Here are some important things I learned from the campus placements at NSUT Delhi-

  1. It’s a harsh reality but luck plays a huge role in placements. Sometimes it will shock you how people with no potential at all get offered great job opportunities.
  2. Confidence and patience are really important during placements.
  3. You need to prepare well to get placed. By sitting for various companies too, you will get a lot of experience and exposure on the do’s and don'ts.
  4. Placement season is the best and worst time of your college life. This is when you get to know the difference between fake and real friends.
  5. Learn to be satisfied with the job that you end up in. It is your grades, caliber, and level of preparation that have brought you here. A comparison with others is of no use.
  6. Sometimes people become rude after getting placed in a top company for a good package. Learn to ignore them and remain calm.
  7. Only you know your hard work, worth and potential. Don’t let others talk you down with rude words.
  8. Some of your close friends may not get a good placement. This is the time when you support them.
  9. Utilize your time after placements. Get productive, don’t be lazy.

These experiences aren’t just limited to the placement season of NSUT Delhi, they are common for all the colleges/ universities.

Which is better: NSIT CSAI or IIITD CSAI?

Namrata Das Posted On : August 23rd, 2023

NSUT Delhi is a better option for extracurriculars and IIITD is a better choice for a career in research. If you wish to go for an M.S. (Research), choose IIIT Delhi.

IIIT Delhi has a great faculty and curriculum. At NSUT Delhi, the faculty won’t teach you the intricacies of a subject as it will in IIITD. However, you won’t have much time to spare after all the assignments at IIIT Delhi. If you want to create stuff (for eg. an AI chatbot) or are into game designing, etc, NSUT Delhi will give you the free time needed for that. College life and clubs are all better at NSUT Delhi.

Here are the overall placement figures for both-

Parameter

IIITD (2023)

NSUT Delhi (2022)

Placement %

96.58% (100% in CSAI)

89.61%

Highest Package

51.03 LPA

-

Average Package

23.72 LPA

-

Median Salary

-

16 LPA

Top Recruiters

Qualcomm, Microsoft, Amazon, Google, MathWorks, Dell, Synopsys, Adobe, IBM, Accenture, Complex Systems Laboratory, etc.

Microsoft, Amazon, Texas Instrument, Google, Qualcomm, Cisco, Hero Moto Corp, etc.

Based on your priorities, you can choose between IIITD and NSIT Delhi. If you are really passionate about your field and 100% sure about your career plans, IIITD is the place for you. Whereas, if you want to explore your interests and figure out your career path, NSUT Delhi will give you the required freedom and exposure for that.
