Which is better, Heritage Institute of Technology or BP Poddar Institute of Management and Technology?

DB
Devika Batra Posted On : October 11th, 2021
Studied at B.P. Poddar Institute of Management and Technology

Both the Heritage Institute of Technology and BP Poddar Institute of Management and Technology are technical colleges affiliated to the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT), West Bengal.

Before deciding which is better, let us first understand each college’s pros and cons.

Pros

Heritage Institute of Technology

  • Huge campus, serene environment, great infrastructure, great area for hangouts
  • Good faculty and plenty of options to choose your specialization
  • Good placements. There is a high probability that you will end up in TCS

BP Poddar Institute of Management and Technology

  • Situated closer to the airport and has multiple transportation options
  • Haldiram’s, Eco Park, CC2, and many other outdoor options are present
  • Placements are decent and many companies such as EY, Bosch visit here for campus placements
  • Ragging is completely absent with some minor “intro” or some small tasks

Cons

Heritage Institute of Technology

  • The location is the biggest problem as you will not find any public transport nearby. You will have to walk miles to get a small cigarette shop. And forget about dining options and restaurants nearby.

BP Poddar Institute of Management and Technology

  • The faculty are decent but you will need the help of lab assistants more often than the professors
  • Fests and other celebrations are not as prevalent as other campuses
  • The canteen is very small
  • Infrastructure is very limited with no playground, no auditorium, and no grand construction
  • Uniform is compulsory

Both are equally good colleges and ultimately you will be getting the certificate from the same university with almost the same level of teaching. You will get around a 15% chance of getting a job in a core sector company. So decide for yourself what you want looking at the pros and cons of both the colleges.

Since Heritage Institute of Technology was granted autonomous status can it reach up to the zenith of success and sit on the same seats as JU and BESU?

TB
Tirtharaj Basu Posted On : September 15th, 2021
Completed B.Tech in Electrical Engineering,Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College in 2019

For reaching that level, a lot of hard work would be required from the students, faculty and the administration. It takes time to achieve success.

  • More involvement in innovation and regular curriculum research can also go a long way.
  • Enhancing the quality of the environment is also a big step in the right direction.
  • An autonomous institute gets the right to make their own question papers and update the contents of its syllabus.
  • A more organized structure of the course is very likely.
  • There is also hope that the quality of checking of the papers will also go up.
  • Placements determine the status of an institute so that it can attract more and more candidates.
  • A lot of the students of CSE in HIT have become interested in getting publications.
  • More stress can be laid on activities that are pertaining to research.

Like it has been said, improvements do not happen overnight. And it hardly ever does well when we compare ourselves with others, HIT can move forward at its own pace and it will succeed in its endeavors eventually.

How much hard work should I do to get on-campus placements at the Heritage Institute of Technology?

RC
Rishabh Chandani Posted On : September 15th, 2021
B.Tech Mechanical Engineering,Heritage Institute of Technology,Kolkata (2020)

Some of my friends studied at Heritage Institute of Technology. According to them, getting into a decent company through campus recruitment from any of the private engineering colleges doesn’t necessitate much effort. Let me state some facts which may be useful to you.

  • No matter how hard you work, landing a solid job that matches your goals is really difficult.
  • Only a few good companies visit the campus, and those that do are almost always IT firms.
  • The college TPO will keep pressuring you to attend IT company campus drives, which most students would want to avoid if core firms came to recruit.
  • All companies require a minimum GPA of 6.5–7 in order to be considered for a campus drive.
  • You have no chance if you’re below that.
  • To get into a corporation, though, you must have at least an 8 GPA.
  • Companies do discriminate based on your grades, regardless of how much expertise you have.
  • You mess up one topic, putting your whole semester grades in jeopardy, and your portfolio suffers as a result.
  • Aside from your departmental studies, prepare and build aptitude skills.
  • The first round of the interview process is the most difficult because it depends not only on your personal abilities, but also on the computers and servers that you are utilizing at the time.
  • Your focus and general knowledge will get you to the following round.

TCS accepts a large number of ECE students from college. When compared to their core counterparts, IT firms recruitment processes are significantly more liberal and discriminatory.

In a word, you’ll need a GPA of at least 8 at the end of your sixth semester, strong aptitude skills, and a touch of luck can make you win a spot in the campus drive.

How is the electrical engineering department in heritage institute of technology?

AD
Akash Dhar Posted On : September 22nd, 2021
B.Tech Information Technology, Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata in 2020

Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata has a very good faculty for Electrical Engineering, probably the best in West Bengal. It has a very friendly environment which will aim to give you very promising college life.

This stream has been somewhat a new introduction to the institute. So in its early years, there was uncertainty in the placements. EE department fell short of the CSE, ECE, IT, AEIE. A lot of the graduates did not get placements by the end of their course.

In the last placement season, the highest package offered to the students was INR 16 LPA and the average package was INR 4 LPA. The top recruiters were TCS, Honda, Infosys, Wipro, etc.

How is the MTech (CSE) program in Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata? What are the placement stats for an MTech (CSE)?

RD

B.Tech Mechanical Engineering, Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata (2020)

Heritage Institute of Technology is a very popular and reputed engineering institute and provides very good facilities to its students. According to the reviews online, here’s what I got to know.

  • This college is very good to pursue B.Tech in CSE but not a good option to do M.Tech in CSE.
  • And this is not only for CS, but for all other departments.
  • Although the faculty and the academics are very good in this college, the placements for M.Tech are not upto the mark and it is better not to choose this college to pursue M.Tech.
  • To do M.Tech, it will be better to do it from IIT but you will have to appear for GATE exams to get admission in IITs.
  • And do note that you will have to be in the top 1000 in GATE to get selected for M.Tech courses at IIT.
  • In West Bengal, there is also Jadavpur University which can also be a very good option to pursue M.Tech in CSE.
  • You can also appear for the examination PGET and if you can clear this exam, then you will be eligible to take admission in any government engineering college under WBUT.

Hence, instead of taking admission in Heritage Institute of Technology for M.Tech in CSE, it will be better to prepare for GATE exam and qualify for IIT or else take admission in some other better colleges for M.Tech.

Which would be a wiser decision: CSE in Mizoram University or ECE in Heritage Institute of technology?

AG
Ankita Ghosh Posted On : September 22nd, 2021
Studies Electrical Engineering at Techno India Salt Lake, 2021

One of my cousins is a recent alumnus of Heritage Institute of Technology (HIT), and as per what he defines, it is best that you join it rather than going at Mizoram University.

Following are the reasons for choosing HIT:

  • The professors assist students in their research work. They encourage them to build a profile for pursuing an M.S.
  • The faculty is cooperative and supportive.
  • Heritage is one of the best institutes to pursue an M.S or M.Tech, basically because it has competent faculty strength, with a fundamental experience backdrop.
  • The major upside is the laboratory amenities that are even capable of competing against the top IITs of the nation.
  • The placement percentage is quite fruitful for departments like ECE, CSE, IT, AEIE.
  • The majority of placements have been seized away mostly by the IT and CSE students.
  • The placement percentage however is pretty much on the lower side for departments like Mechanical, Electrical, Civil Engineering, etc.
  • If you do not obtain a seat at institutes like Jadavpur University and IIEST, it is best that you choose HIT.
  • The ECE department (VLSI) of HIT has recently begun to lead the Eastern India Colleges in “India Chip program”, an initiative taken forward by Digital India.
  • In a way, the department of ECE is one of the best in the institute.
Categories ECE at Heritage Institute of Technology
Course Fee 4.04 lakh
Placement Percentage 80-90%
Highest CTC 16-18 LPA
Average CTC 8-9 LPA
Recruiting Companies Accenture, Cognizant, Tech Mahindra, HP, etc.

However, before diving into conclusion, it is best that you research more deeply about the prospects both institutes share and determine which is best to go for, at the end of the day.

Do Heritage Institute of Technology students go for summer internships? If so, then where?

SP
Suranjana Palit Posted On : September 23rd, 2021
B.Tech Bachelor of Technology in Computer Science and Engineering, Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata (2018)

Yes, there are internship opportunities available in Heritage Institute of Technology and they do go to different places for internship purposes. But where they go depends on the student's choices and what they are interested in. And most of these internships also carry a stipend component.

  • If you are interested in doing academic research, then you can look for opportunities in laboratories, Universities and R&D organisations.
  • If you are interested in working for a company or an organisation, then you can join them as a Summer Associate, Summer Intern, Summer Analyst.
  • There are various other options available too.
  • You can also intern for social welfare organisations and this can be very beneficial for you if you want to add some co-curricular tag in your resume and make it more appealing.
  • A student interested in research has done two internships during 2nd and 3rd year.
  • One at Centre for Advanced Research in Electronics at IIT Delhi and the next at Secured Embedded Architecture Laboratory in IIT Kharagpur.
  • The process of getting an internship generally takes a long time and it may take around 3 months to revert back to your email by the summer advisor and then a video session may also be conducted before your final approval for joining their team.
  • These internships will last for around 8-10 months, so before joining them plan your schedule accordingly and take out around 1-2 months from your semester to complete your internship.

Hence, there are several kinds of internship opportunities available in this college and most of these internships are paid, so you will also get some money along with work experience.

Is it possible to study at Heritage Institute of Technology and prepare for the JEE 2021? Has anyone done it before? How do I go about it?

SD
Sangeeta Dixit Posted On : September 13th, 2021
Bachelor of Technology Information Technology,Heritage Institute of Technology,Kolkata (2016)

It totally depends upon you and how you manage to do your studies. One of my friends who was in HIT tried for his 2nd attempt but couldn’t make it due to lack of focus. There may be a few more examples, but it is not possible to opt for IIT or any top-notch college after studying for 1 year at Heritage.

It may have been possible a few years back but now, Heritage Institute is an autonomous institute. A rigid attendance policy and curriculum are being followed here and you will get little to no time for JEE preparation.

You can opt for lateral entry as various colleges accept it. IIIT Hyderabad is one such example. However, you will be granted admission based on various parameters and your profile.

Determination, patience, and motivation are the main keys. Life at any engineering college is not a piece of cake. You will be overloaded with tasks and assignments. If you are focused and find balance in your life then, you will succeed.
