Mangalore University to Amend Law to Recognize Eligible Affiliated Colleges as Research Centers


The Vice-Chancellor of Mangalore University, Professor PS Yadapadithaya stated that the law will be amended to recognize the eligible affiliated colleges as research centres.

Prof PS Yadapadithaya addressed the members of the Academic Council and stated that Alva’s CollegePoornaprajna CollegeM V Shetty College and Others have submitted applications to be recognized as research centres by Mangalore University.

According to the present law, only laboratories of All-India nature or other institutions where research work is being carried out which is maintained by the Government of India, and research institutions maintained by the State government, or autonomous Institutions recognized by the government only could be recognized as Research Centres.

Professor Yadapadithaya stated that the amendment of Law should be approved by the Governor, who is also the chancellor of Mangalore University. He also asked the deans to prepare the guidelines for Research Centres before that.

He also added that a professor who carries out research activities and has many publications to his credits should be announced as the research guide.

PhD qualification is mandatory for teaching faculties to get selected at Mangalore University after 2021, hence promoting research activities would not be required. A five year integrated course in Electronics will be introduced from the next academic year, Professor Yadapadithaya stated.

The academic council has permitted the admission of the students for the Bachelor of Visual Arts course at Mangalore University who have passed a two-year visual arts foundation program at Kannada University in Hampi. 

Mangalore University has decided to accept a two-year visual course equivalent to a PU course offered by the Government.
