IIT Delhi & University of Queensland(UQ) Inaugurates UQIDAR on January 19


The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi and the University of Queensland (UQ) have jointly founded the UQ-IITD Academy of Research (UQIDAR) on January 19, 2021. 

IIT Delhi & University of Queensland intends for a large number of students to train under the joint Ph.D. program. The joint program will be directed by both UQ and IIT-Delhi professors. The two-year-old program has already attracted over 65 top Ph.D. scholars from various areas.

The UQIDAR will provide a collaborative Ph.D. program to benefit scholars across various fields to develop a widespread effect. The objective is to enroll approximately 300 students in the joint Ph.D. program within the next three years.

The UQIDAR students will get the chance of researching in both India and Australia. Indian students will generally spend three years at IIT-Delhi and one-year at UQ and Australian students will spend three years at UQ and one year at IIT-Delhi.

The academy will concentrate on interdisciplinary topics. The five specified topics include healthy aging, feeding the world, a resilient environment, future technologies, and transforming societies. 

Prof. Deborah Terry AO is the president and vice-chancellor of the University of Queensland, Australia. He proclaimed that the alliance between the two universities is focusing on enhancing multi-disciplinary research in teamwork to explore the solutions for specific dangers.
