New Delhi: Delhi University has applauded the Supreme Court's decision to reject the Delhi High Court's request that St. Stephen's College follows the university's admissions policy and assures applicants that there won't be any problems because undergraduate admissions will proceed as per schedule.

According to DU Registrar Vikas Gupta, the university will release its first list of vacant seats for undergraduate admissions by 5 p.m. today.
It should be noted that the University delayed the publication of the DU First Merit List 2022 by one day as the SC was scheduled to hear St. Stephen's appeal of the High Court's judgement on October 19, 2022.
Gupta revealed that the court has reached the appropriate decision. The university postponed the release of the first merit list out of respect for the court.
The university stands by the students and they won't have to face any problems during the admission process. The session would begin on November 2 after the admission is completed as scheduled, He said.
In its ruling, the Supreme Court declined to postpone the Delhi High Court's judgement for St. Stephen's College to adhere to the Delhi University's admissions requirements.
The Delhi High Court ordered the ST. Stephens College to adhere to the university's admission policy, which states that when awarding admission to non-minority applicants in undergraduate courses, the Common University Entrance Test (CUET)-2022 score must be given 100 percent weight.
However, St Stephen's College seeks to weight CUET by 85% and interviews by 15% when admitting students from all categories to its courses.
This admission row had been ongoing since May, this year. Both the institutions have exchanged letters back and forth and later on approached the Delhi High Court, where the order was passed in favour of DU’s 100 percent CUET admission policy.
