DU Admissions 2022: Only 2 lakh CUET Candidates Applied to DU for Admissions

The latest reports suggest that less than half of the six lakh candidates who expressed their interest in pursuing graduation from Delhi University (DU) when enrolling for the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) had sought their admission to DU till date.

Haneet Gandhi, DU's dean of admissions, reported that as of the evening of October 3, only about 2 lakh applicants have submitted applications to DU using its new admissions portal (Common Seat Allocation System or CSAS).

Earlier, last year, a total of 2.87 lakh applications were submitted to DU for admission to its undergraduate (UG) programmes, which is a decrease from 3.53 lakh applications in 2020.

This year, the applications were anticipated to increase given the significant interest demonstrated by the candidates during CUET registration.

Recently, on September 26, the varsity began inviting applications on the CSAS portal. However, given the current pattern, the overall number of applications will probably be around equal to last year's amount.

According to the reports, at the conclusion of the second phase on October 10, "a simulated list will be released before the start of the first round of seat allocation round, which will allow students to know where they stand, post which a window would be created for correction." The order of the students' preferences can then be changed.

In addition, the university is trying to create a portal for students where they can provide approximate information about the college, the courses the students are applying to, and the number of applicants for the same course as their preference. Consequently, the university is attempting to create this provision for the students, the reports revealed.

When asked about the initial seat allocation list, DU Registrar Vikash Gupta said that the consolidated allocation list would take some time as the entire process is new for students and for the university.

Since CUET and CSAS are new, the students shouldn't be pushed, as a result, the university is providing them time and taking things slowly, Gupta said.

Prof. Haneet Gandhi said that the students require time to sequence these choices because the preference list is lengthy and contains more than a thousand alternatives. Parents and students should have adequate time to select the appropriate preferences and order.

The students can select their preferences among various colleges on the CSAS portal. The Registrar revealed that the students can choose from more than a thousand different combination preferences, and even the portal itself displays the courses that the students are eligible for.

Further, the students can easily get into one of the university's affiliated colleges that provide a particular course. However, the university has also introduced a tie-breaking method for the students having the same scores.

Gandhi revealed that "no analysis or breakdown has yet been done about applications received under various categories."
